you can easily derive 3/8 (or any fraction) in binary using magic sequences. to do this, just start with the numerator (3 in this case), and at each step, multiply by two, and if the resulting number is equal to or larger than the denominator (8 in this case), subtract the denominator. So, the sequence for 3/8 would be 3, 6, 4, 0. In this case the magic sequence ended, but many magic sequences will repeat infinitely, meaning those fractions will also be repeating. Now, using the magic sequence, we'll write a new number between each step of the magic sequence. If the number goes up, write a 0. If the number goes down, write a 1. Here we go. 3 (0) 6 (1) 4 (1) 0. 3/8 in binary is 0.011, easy.
