Oh, I will be watching each and every one of these. Chris is smart to trust you with this. He clearly does not have time to do cooking videos and I know for a fact he's been trying to do more of that for years. You'll probably end up being the thing that locks in my order finally. Not gonna lie. lol. By the way, is that a new logo?

Sorry, just found your reply. The logo is actually designed for t shirts, but thought I would use it to replace my old avatar for my channel. I think Chris had his reservations at first, but he is very happy with the response from these few videos I've done, and I'm super happy he trusted me to come through for him. He hasn't seen anything yet ;)

Hi Russ, As you may have observed, I’m new to watching your channel. Beyond all I find it simply fascinating to view your recipes and to learn about smoke cookers and the adventures of backyard BBQ. I may have mentioned early on that I reside in Washington, DC. Downtown in fact. On the roof top of my complex we have several grills custom built in heavy brick walls. If course it is gas flamed and we can add wood in the lower shaft as needed. I paid full attention to your transport and explaining the features. Job well done Russ. I look forward to your first grilling video using the Lonestar Grillz 24” x 36” Smoker. Again, here’s to all your success, and as always, thanks for sharing. Kevin in DC, 4 blocks up the street from the 1600 Penn.

More videos coming for sure! This will be my go to pit when I'm doing a low and slow cook, and I'm going to be using the griddle and grill as well in up coming videos.

I've been lurking your channel for a while and I appreciate all of your videos and look forward to the upcoming ones, especially the ones with this smoker because I've eyeing them for a while now. Being that I'm just about 15 miles south of them on I-45 in Spring, Tx. it seems like a good fit but I haven't been able to find a reputable source for information on their cookers. I'm also a central Louisiana native that lives in the Houston area now so I appreciate all of your cooking techniques and recipes. Thanks for your efforts and keep up the awesome videos.

Rus, that looks like the finest offset I have ever seen for a back yard smoker, they put some thought into this one, all the mods you would need to do with a COS you would not need to do that with this one. Heavy gauge steel, great welds everywhere. Finally, someone finally figured where the the exhaust for the smoke stack needed to be and hopefully an accurate temp gauge, great smoker.....

Thanks, I love it! There is not really a water pan, but instead, the water actually goes into the bottom of the pit if you decide to use water, and I think I will on this cook coming up. It not only stops meat from drying out because of the moister it's adding to the surrounding air, but it helps out in keeping a even heat across the pit, while using the tuning plates as well, so I want to see how it goes, then I'll do a cook without water and see which I like best.

You mentioned couple weeks ago you had one on order. I just found out about offset smokers in January. The first one I found on the web was the Lone Star, then Gator, then Yoder. I really wanted to go big, but ened up with another make, which is built well too, just cheaper. But, as we always heard...you get what you pay for. Yours is top dollar but it is definitely top quality. Every point on the walk thru is nothing spared. Enjoyed your burn in vid, and looking forward to making some good cooks on it. Keep'em com"in Russ.

There are a hand full of fabricators that make these custom made grills, and they do cost more, but to me, well worth it and Lonestar Grillz is doing a few things that no other company is doing such as the 1/2" fire grate, and their top lid flanges conform to the shape of the smoker like no other. This grill will last a life time if cared for, like removing ash after every cook, and keeping the fire box oiled down in between cooks as well as the charcoal basket. I agree completely. That's the first thing my wife said "wow I didn't think it was that big". It's a beauty for sure. Haven't got to fire it up yet but I feel like it has already exceeded expectations.

Your going to love it! BTW, don't let the temps fool you. I went 3 hours without my temps falling off once I got it dialed in to my target temp, and finally it started to fall a little, and when I looked in the fire box, there was nothing left, lol! Not even enough embers to start another log. That's how well the heavy pit holds heat. So that taught me to check it once a hour, but will probably be adding a split log about once every hour and a half to keep her running smooth.

Pretty awesome acquire there Rus! Looks very well built, excellent walk through demo - and with your experience, you should know a good weld! Your work ethic shines here - do it right, make it strong. Also see you had the forethought to lay in a near forest of wood in anticipation of using this beastie. Your wife might be a little bit jealous over the next few weeks, ;)

Rus, that is one of the most solid built offsets I possibly have ever seen. A LOT of thought clearly went into the design of this beast. I don't have time to skim through all the comments, so apologies if you've already addressed this...but I noticed towards the end you had your iGrill set out. I'm assuming you had a couple ambient pit probes for some temp checks throughout the chamber? I'd be curious how well it regulates heat throughout the chamber and if you noticed any big variances. Also...like I'm sure some others have mentioned, definitely please try out using water in an upcoming cook and let us know if you think it's needed or not. Amazing cooker brother. I know your AMPING! :)

Steve, this truly is a beast of a smoker and built to take it and to last! Yes, I had two probes in the smoker. Each probe at opposite ends of the lower grate. I used them to see the temperature difference from the fire box side to the exhaust side as I made adjustments to the tuning plates. I got it tuned in with only a 5°F difference, and once I add water to the pit on my next cook, I should see no difference at all, but I can live with 5° difference all day long as is. That's what I love about the tuning plates. If I want a 50° difference I can do it for a hot and cooler side. Thanks Steve, and I appreciate you stopping by brother!

I pass through Gautier everyday on my way to work. I have other smokers and grills, but these Lonestar Grillz really put a smile on my face when I get ready to fire them up. Very much worth looking into. There is a waiting period after ordering one because of the backlog of orders but very well worth the wait. If your on Facebook, check out this Lonestar Grillz Owners group. People in that group can tell you first hand about these smokers and the great build quality not to mention how well they perform. facebook.com/groups/551380464971244/

Russ. Thank you for the video. After watching a bunch of your videos I ended up ordering the same exact one with the offroad package and some other accessories. And have you discovered any other benefits or downfalls since then?

Smoky Ribs, I'm a new subscriber and have been watching your videos on this smoker. It is really a gorgeous BBQing machine. In your opinion, how does this unit compare to a Yoder Smoker like the Loaded Witchita for instance? Nice job on this video and the others I've watched.
@SmokyRibsBBQ
@SmokyRibsBBQ 6 жыл бұрын
First I want to say thanks for subscribing! I absolutely love this Lonestar Grillz offset! I've owned other offsets in the past and there is no comparison. I've never owned a Yoder Smoker, but I have watched many videos where people are using them. I personally prefer the really huge fire box design I have on mine compared to the pipe fire boxes. I haven't burnt any paint off, because this smoker runs great once started with just one small split log at a time, and the fire never comes in contact with the sides like it would in a pipe fire box, plus it has a good size grill grate and griddle at the top of the firebox which is really handy. Lonestar Grillz prides their self in having the tightest fitting lids of any smoker out there, and I've seen it first hand watching other videos, and comparing them to the very little smoke loss I encounter. A friend has a competition Yoder Kingman and he leaks really bad around the chamber door. Shouldn't be that way for what they cost. I'm not downing any other smoker company, but I will say that I'm very very happy with what I have and will never look any further than Lonestar Grillz when it comes to top of the line, well built smokers. Can't go wrong! Maybe you should check out this FaceBook page and ask some of these guys what their opinion is as well. facebook.com/groups/551380464971244/

Hey Rus I love your videos. I build and sell my own grills, I noticed you had a little trouble moving your tuning plates, I know it's not from bad design move it from the middle not the end, it'll work much easier. You may know this by now. Love your videos, keep up the great work my friend
@SmokyRibsBBQ
@SmokyRibsBBQ 6 жыл бұрын
I was not trying to adjust them on video, only showing that they can be adjusted by moving them around a bit. It only makes since to start with the middle and not the end since the other plates would be in the way. Thanks for watching.
