Bearings are nice but there’s nothing quite like breaking in a good pair of phosphor-bronze washers. Or 3-5 washers if you have a Medford (allegedly)

Great episode Bob and Jim. I agree with you Bob about liking washers, and don’t have a big knife collection yet but I carry two spydercos every day and my main work knife for over two years now is my shaman and it just keeps getting smoother as it ages.

Great topic of discussion! I own a TRM Shadow, of which I watched countless reviews on, and action is hardly ever mentioned except to say it's okay. I'm not sure if they're giving it enough time, but the phosphor bronze washers on my Shadow must be polished now from all the flicking because it's a guillotine. U sometimes hear the term "glassy smooth", and I think that's a perfect way to describe the feeling of some broken-in washers

Demo did a test on the compression lock for the pm2 way back when and it actually failed relatively easily compared to some other locking mechanisms. The vid is still on KZfaq. It was definitely not the handle or blade that failed first.
