Smooth POCKET 2 Walking Footage (be a smooth operator...kinda)

I made this quick video, well quick for my standards. In this video I give you tips on how to smooth out your DJI Pocket 2 footage when you are walking. We all know the Osmo Pocket and the Pocket 2 are great little cameras and they can give you some fantastic smooth stabilized shots but where these cameras struggle is with the up and down motion when you are walking.

I love using the pocket 2 and it does a great job but it does struggle to give you some smooth walking shots. I hope these tips help with your footage but just like anything practice makes perfect. Thanks for watching.

Nice one Dave.. the pocket 2 gimbal stabilizer is already good. Only, it needs bit of our help with certain walking technics and practice to make the movement even smoother in order to produce best out of it. 😁👍🏼

Ya I agree with you, it is a great little camera but it needs work on the up and down walking motion. I think it's great that it's so small and light but that may be the problem.

Hi Dave, great video. Thanks for the tips. I am using my Pocket 2 for a longer walks and I like to strap it to my backpack. Any tips on how to smooth such videos? I am guessing that the backpack itself adds some bobbing

the flashlight mode produces smoothier footage is not about the gimbal itself, its because in flash light mode your arm muscle is more stretched and it kinda act as a spinkle to absorb the vertical bumping. Muscles are more shock absorbing when they are under heavier loading.

Good question, no I was not using the gimbal lock. I have tried it while walking and for me I didn't notice any improvements. I do love that they added the lock feature though! Do you use the gimbal lock for walking shots?

Hi Dave. Video is great and tips are wonderful. Audio in this video is sometimes muffled or slightly warped. This i heard with the headphones on.

Yes, the day I shot this was very windy out and I was using the internal microphones. Also to make things worse there is a river near by and the water is very high and loud this time of year. It was a good test for the internal microphone, which I like but there is no protection from the wind with the internal microphone.

Well, you can always shoot the video in 4k which is the highest resolution. But it does take a lot of space. You can also shoot in 1080 and then after edit, export it in 2k. This is because when you upload it on KZfaq, it would assign the vp09 code rather than a which makes the quality poor.

Flashlight mode is essentially when you hold the camera flat or horizontal almost like you are using a flashlight. Some say you can get a smoother shot this way.

Hi Dave. When I record on my Pocket 2 in 2.7 or 4K at 48, 50, or 60fpm and try to play the videos back on my computer, the videos are really jerky and skip some frames. 30fpm is fine. Is the trouble with my computer or the monitor?

Hi Robert, I would guess it's your computer. 2.7 and 4k footage is tough on a lot of computers, especially with lower ram and an older video card. Are you using media player to play them back, I recommend VLC, it's free but to be honest depending on how old you computer is it may not make a difference. Damn Computers!
