I am a big fan of the DJI Pocket 2. It's a great little camera and it only improved on the original Osmo Pocket. However, there are several mistakes that we make when using the Pocket 2, hopefully this video will help give you some tips and tricks to avoid making these mistakes.

Great video. I cant get my head around AFs and AFC . Is AFS like manual focus ? so you click on it once and it's focused at that point. So for example Click AFS once on a landscape. Move behind a rock ( rock should be blurred out) Pan /slide left and landscape will be in focus. AFC always does auto focus Landscape is in focus move behind rocK and it will refocus on the rock when would you use AFS vs AFC Regards

Just finished watching your "mistake" video! So good! I have a question: would you mind explaining a bit more here why you shoot in 24 fps for interviewing and selfie videos? Is it because it is a more natural look? Also, do you shoot always in cine mode? Thanks for any help!
@DavidDavies
@DavidDavies 2 жыл бұрын
thanks for the nice comment. I shoot in 24 fps for these shots simply because I like the look of 24 fps, just a preference. Some people don't like it but I like the more film look. Also I then edit my sequence in 24 fps and when I do shoot something in 60fps, I am actually able to slow that footage down more than I would be able to if I shot in 30 fps. As far as cine mode, I do use it from time to time but I have no problem shooting in colour mode, I think it looks pretty decent right out of the camera.

Thank you so much for this tutorial!! :). One question, how do you know which ND filter do you need to use in each moment of the day or night?
@DavidDavies
@DavidDavies 2 жыл бұрын
That is a great question Fran. I used ND filters so that I can shoot at iso 100 and my shutter at double my frame rate, so I like to shoot in 4k in 24 frames per second, so I will set me iso to 100 and my shutter to 50. Then I will add my ND filter until my footage looks good and properly exposed. There is some trial and error. You can use your EV metre to make sure you shot is properly exposed. Once you get comfortable enough you will figure out which level of ND works for each shot.

@timgalletas3856
@timgalletas3856 3 жыл бұрын
@@BlackJackzOO without a doubt Nd filters make your footage more smooth and cinematic if you’re going after that look and will give you more flexibility when you use manual settings. However, you have to be mindful where you’re pointing the camera each time you record because the moment you point away it will be a different exposure and you will need to tweak the settings again or change the filter. This is great when you have the time to do so. In my case, I’m happy with the auto settings. One thing you have to think about is how you use the pocket. Filters work best if you attach your pocket to your phone because you have a bigger view of what’s happening with your exposure. If you are not using a phone it’s harder with the little screen. My eyes are getting old so that doesn’t help. Lol. You can also use wifi to monitor your recording but again it all depends on you. Hope this helps.

That's interesting Tim, I have always said I have been impressed with the Osmo Pocket, now Pocket 2, straight out of the box with no accessories. Personally I am just used to using the ND filters from my time using my professional cameras.
@BlackJackzOO
@BlackJackzOO 3 жыл бұрын
@@timgalletas3856 Thanks for the tips Tim. Another thing about the filters is that it takes me out of the moment. I can't just grab and record. Do you use the Cinelike D setting? I have heard different things about it being better for post production. Also, I can't seem to figure out if it's possible to lock exposure without using the app?

Many thanks for great tips for me as a beginner to the Osmo Pocket 2. One request: Do you suggest using filters even in automode? Contrary to DSLR's I'm not going to use the Osmo in the manual mode 90% of the time, I guess, it's a quick vlogging option for me with no hassle to worry about. Many thanks, I'll be following the channel.
@DavidDavies
@DavidDavies 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Martin, yes the filters will still help in auto mode but they they work best in manual mode. If you are using the Pocket 2 for quick vlogging I would just try it in Auto mode without any filter to see if you are happy with the results. For taking head shots you may be fine. Good luck.

I was thinking of using this for outdoor ceremonies only and no this wouldn't be my only camera. I would use for the entrances and center cam during the ceremony. I do already use my Panasonic G9 on a gimbal works great, but auto focus isn't great it's not bad if you do what I do and use a prime lens, but with this I could actually do a small zoom in to change that center shot during the ceremony IE ring exchange, vows and maybe kiss. Enjoyed the video, Dave. I just became aware of the Pocket 2 and trying to decide if I should spring for it. The idea of having such a compact gimbal with the camera built in really appeals to me. I've own a ZHIYUN gimbal for two years and can count on one hand the number of times I've used it. QUESTION: What do you think of the Pocket 2 from a casual photography perspective. I'll be heading to Disney World in about a month and was wondering about the quality of photos and also how easy it would be to bounce back and forth between taking video and photos. What-a-ya think?
@DavidDavies
@DavidDavies 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. I totally agree with you about the larger gimbals, they work great but such a pain. That's what is great about the Pocket 2, so small and simple. As for photos it does a decent job, I actually really like the pano features, but I wouldn't rely on it if you are looking to get really high end photos. I actually took the Osmo Pocket, original version with me to Disney in 2019, I just bought the camera and the firmware wasn't great but it was perfect for Disney with the family. Have a good trip.

Hi I'm fairly new to the pocket 2 and initially bought a set of standard ND filters but I found them to be a bit fiddly and soon got tired of switching out filters every 5-minutes to suit the varying lighting conditions so I purchased a pair of variable ND filters and these have proved to be really good. As they were only an experiment I didn't buy the most expensive I simply bought a reasonable brand and they've worked out fine. I no longer have to fiddle around changing the filters - all I have to do is rotate the bezel on the outer edge of the filter until my exposure value comes down to something close to what's required. Because I'm in the UK I shoot in 25 frames per second and always try to stick to a 50th of a second shutter speed but I'm coming round to thinking now that I might start filming in 50 frames per second at 100th shutter in order to be able to use the slow motion that you outlined so well in this video. After watching one of your previous videos I've also just invested in a z-axis stabilizer as I'm not exactly nimble these days and I need all the help I can get with smooth video! This has yet to be delivered and is on its way from Australia as we speak. Thanks for your very informative videos I've just subscribed 🙂

Hi Dave, ya I have not tried the Variable ND but they look interesting. Changing the filters can be a pain. I have also not tried the Z-axis so let me know how that works for you. Take care.

Hi Michelle, are you talking about a specific product? Most of the accessories I have are from amazon. Let me know if it's something specific and I can let you know where I got it from.

@@DavidDavies You mentioned a brand of filters you were testing (as they were sent to you). I was wondering about that product. I was also wondering what you were using to hold the camera and your phone.

Dave… love the vids. I need help. My wife and I find ourselves out and about with the pocket 2 combo. But we find the micro won’t pick up the other persons audio. Duel mic setup? We’re within 5’. Got a hack for us?

Hi there, that's odd. Are you using the internal microphone or an external mic? With the internal, or camera mic, I know the camera tries to use the microphone in which the gimbal is pointing but I thought it records multiple channels. Are you on opposite sides of the camera?

Yeah… she’s not always facing the pocket 2. We tried putting the mic on her but it shuts off the internal mic… so that failed. Since I commented I may have a solution from Rode with their Go ii. We can both mic up. We’ll be trialing it tomorrow. Tech guy was generous enough to let me test it at home verse at his shop

I have been using the pocket 2 for a couple of weeks now. The footage that I get while using pocket 2 is grainy...always...in low light as well as normally. I am using the camera in auto mode in 4k 24 FPS. I am able to get a clear video...the stabilization is good...but the 4K video is grainier than by mobile camera....is there any way to fix this.

I wish the pocket 2 has the older lens from the pocket 1 because of the narrower angle, looks more cinematic i think. So recording in 60fps it better for slow motion even when i export the video in 30fps?

Hello great video!! Do you know why the Pocket 2 camera points directly to ceiling every time I walk into any building where the ceiling is well lit or there’s a giant skylight like a mall?

Do you have the face tracking on when this happens? Sometimes the face tracking can really cause problems.

I really like your last point on "practice, practice, and more practice"! So, my question is, WHERE do you store all the footage? Hard disk? KZfaq? Please advise. Thanks a lot!!
