The final (pre-recced) SMTV as shot in two parts with respective presenting teams. Notice the absence of Brian and Tess in the song at the end, though Des and Shavaughan are present with the rest of the guests.

This feels like the absolute definite final moment of Saturday morning kids TV as we knew it going back to the Swap Shop and Tiswas days.

Would argue that the genre died the moment Ant & Dec left the show. "Da Bungalow" had a few laughs, but felt more of a comedy game show, that happened to air on Saturday (and Sunday) mornings.

@@RobinBlamires Da Bungalow was really completely different from anything Saturday mornings. I think SMTV still had its moments after Ant and Dec left and Brian’s Brain was just as fun as Challenge Ant and you still had essentials like the Saturday Squad but in hindsight the end of the year 2003 felt like an absolute end of so many other UK TV institutions and a tying up of loose ends once and for all.

Thanks for uploading this. So cool and absolutely loved this when I was a kid. Obviously the show was over when Ant and Dec left for me because the three of them had such a good connection. Amazing show and will be nothing ever like it.

Thing is… if Ant and Dec didn’t do Pop Idol, this show might’ve stayed on telly a bit longer. But then, pop idol wouldn’t have its signature charm. It’s a dilemma that NO ONE wanted

It was the right time to depart when still on form. Though I felt some of the later sketches done that summer such as the Star Trek send up lacked the humour of "Chums" and "Secret of My Success". Even Cat the Dog's solo outings lacked something without "Downright Dirty Donnelly".

Charlotte D That was so heartbreaking that Ant got the killer question right, because to be fair, Ant practically knows almost everything about Dec since they worked with each other on this show for over 4 years hence why he knew that question from the very moment it was asked! Still bugs me why they got rid of the consolation prize if the child lost, that wouldn’t be allowed on TV nowadays! Absolutely scandalous!

The problem with SM:tv post Ant & Dec was that they could have thrown any talent whatsoever at it and it would always lack one crucial element... Ant & Dec. Sometimes a show is entirely defined by its hosts, and none more so than SM:tv Live. It's like if Timmy Mallett had left Wacaday. How would you possibly replace him? When a host becomes the very fabric of the show, once they leave it's over. Okay, there have been a small number of shows which defied that law. Bruce Forsyth was successfully replaced by Larry Grayson On The Generation Game, for instance. So I can understand why the production at least battled to try and replace Ant & Dec. But the odds were always against.it.

@@jasondrury8301 But you are missing the point. This wasn't the Ant and Dec show, this was Smtv Live, they couldn't be presenters forever and besides it was only a live saturday morning show that didn't need many viewers as much as 2m. The show needed different presenters.

Erm, firstlyfor your information no it wasn't drawing about 9 million viewers, secondly and most importantly your also missing the point. Smtv live was a live Saturday morning show, it wasn't called the Ant and Dec show and Ant and Dec weren't the stars of it. It was just a live Citv Saturday morning show which didnt need to have as many viewers to treat it as like a big event. It just needed to refresh and have different presenters, if television bosses hadn't have been so selfish and cared for ratings rather than just producing a good live Saturday morning show, it would still be in air today.

Wonder what happened to the Eminemmerdale sketch that was teased during some of the links? They cut it out of the ‘Coming Up’ trail at the start of the show so the decision was clearly made pre-broadcast, presumably replaced by Spongebob, but I wonder why?

You'll have to help out with this one but how did Big Brother become entwined with a kids show or is it purely because Brian is presenting which I assume he took up after winning Big Brother? If memory serves me correctly, he never really had much of a T.V. Career without the rug being pulled normally, being critical, usually with good cause (good housemate, crap host) and did they really go near the "stupid stunt" line. I would've thought no T.V. Boss would wanna go anywhere near them lines in children's T.V.

Brian was more or less the flavour of the month around the time he got the SMTV gig. Actually proving more successful than James Redmond who was being given all the press attention when Ant & Dec left, but didn't live up to it, despite being amusing in the sketches. Though James left after bad mouthing the show to a tabloid newspaper...

@@RobinBlamires so he played the big I am then? F÷*k knows why because I have never heard of him. I think it is easy to forget A) just how Big Brother was becoming (Big Brother 3, obviously the one after Brian's win and scarily 20 years ago next year) Big Brother 3's final is still Channel 4's highest rated programme in its history which will be 40 years next year. 10 million tuned in for that which Channel 4 could only dream of today and, even of the dreadful Channel 5 era, Big Brother 3 produced its most successful housemates. Jade and Kate, Alison still in the media industry. On the back of that, Brian's win and just how popular he was this time 20 years ago, again, how easy for us to forget. It was when reality T.V. Was innocent but unfortunately bred the horrid monster which they call reality T.V. Today which is so far removed from reality, it's laughable.

Love it I’m enjoying these I couldn’t believe that was the final one with them in it it was certainly emotional and fun to watch for memories is it possible to put more SMTV full episodes like this of this with ant and dec and cat in it and can you find the episode with Ant’s ex wife Lisa in it she was in playing challenge Ant and cat was doing the questions I would love it if you did that it would make my day ❤️😘♥️🥰💗😀💕👌

sorry for replying a year later, but im pretty sure it was just left untouched/a few things were removed and some was left. in the youtube video "The story of SMTV: Live" ant and dec talk with cat in the same studio, on the same sofa, and they mentioned how they didn't like how echoey the studio was because it wasn't in use.

I still laugh at the chums credits such as wardrobe is a type of bedroom furniture, producer could not produce rabbits from a hat, director could not direct traffic, executive producer sits in a big chair, executive, executive producer sits in a big chair and reads magazines and executive, executive, executive producer look this is getting silly now.

I think we can all agree on one fact that Smtv Live was a pathetic shows with rubbish presenters, Ant, Dec and Cat were just awful whatsoever, the best show on a Saturday has to be Live & Kicking and my favourite era has to be when Katy Hill, Ortis, Trey Farley and Sarah Cawood presented it, they were brilliant, I also loved FBI, with the brilliant Keith Duffy, Kate Heavnor and Vernon Kay.
