How To Fit 33s Onto A Stock Toyota Tacoma

Fitting 33s onto a stock Toyota Tacoma wasn't as easy as I expected. I actually thought they would work as a bolt-on, but that wasn't true. We needed to cut some of the plastic, molded some of the inner liner, and add some wheel spacers. The simple answer to this is lift it just a little and that would probably solve all our problems.

I did -18 offset. 33s, 3” complete suspension lift. Viper cut in the front, cmc, hammered pinch weld and trimming in the back. (You will cut metal on the fender). If you want to do it right you will need cmc or cmr, trimming, suspension ucas and custom alignment. Huge difference between driving straight on the street and actually off-roading a vehicle. I’d rather have a ton of clearance than have to worry going over obstacles.

Great camera work. Much better than other creators who tackled this subject. I would like to see the Tacoma at full flex as well as well as full lock to see if those clearances remain.

You would need to do the body mount chop and run spacers. And possibly some inner fender trimming

tire brand also makes a big difference each brand varies just slightly. Also wheel width helps a big amount as well.

I am curious as to what your thoughts are on fitting 35s as you were putting on 33s. I know there is a lot more chopping and suspension upgrades, but thought you might make a future video on what you would need for 35s. I can volunteer my Tacoma if you need it!

Aggressive CMC or Cab relocate. 35s require alot of cutting and work. Good amount of offset on the wheels for sure since youre going even wider than these 33s. Thats all thats required, oh and ur fender needs to be cut too yep. Whatever rubs, take care of it. Simple

Hey Ryan! Yeah the Canadian Off-road is correct. Lots of triming, and body mount chop would be the answer. Now if you can you do it on a stick Tacoma... That would be interesting

Cmc and a 6” lift. Minor trimming. New ucas to move the wheel forward. It’s not uncommon. 3” with 33s is way better.

I did, just to gain more clearance, they are super weak and I'd never use them as rocksliders

Can you fit 33s? Yes, if you don't flex the suspension at all.

Intrigued by this exchange between you two. Snailtrial 4X4, did you make a follow-up video on no rubbing with 33’s, even when suspension is fully flexed? I didn’t think it’s possible either, but if you insist and can show it I’m all eyes and ears. Id like to install 33’s without lifting my truck.

No, you actually don't have to chop lots to fit them. It works great with the 3/4" spacers

If you're asking they that set of 33 is different then the ones I put on the answer is yes. I'm sure of you take these steps you will figure out if they will work for you. I can't guarantee that any other wheel/tire combo will have the seme results as they are all so different

When I had the 1.25" spacers I was hitting the body mount when tiring and going up something like a curb. But with the .75" I don't rub at all. Check out trailtacoma.com (link in description) he posted pics of me off-roading.

Put on oversized tires. Look cool. Make a good vehicle worse. Worse braking, worse gearing, worse mpg, worse suspension articulation, worse reliability, worse longevity. More unsprung weight. What obstacle were you trying to get over that you failed due to the previous tire size?

I wanted to see if it was possible to fit 33 with out modifying, when I found out I needed to modify it I was curious how much. Yes, bigger tires aren't the final answer, and I do plan on getting even larger ones, with bigger brakes, new gears, better suspension and more articulation. Plus, my trucks a manual and it has always had really tall gears with the 4.30s, I feel this is actually good hearing for small 33. Also maybe you should check out some of my other videos to see the type of off roading I enjoy doing. I even have a video about bottoming out this exact Tacoma and rerouting the exhaust so I can get better ground clearance. So... Big rocks!

Rick Germain, this the most mild lift there ever was, 30 1/2" tire to 32 7/8" tire. Just larger tires will gain an inch(or so) of clearance which is great for an off roader, as this an "TRD Off Road" which is bought by off road ethuists. A carpenter will purchase a SR5 or a TRD Sport. The 1" higher center of gravity is what most worries me most, but it seems that has been remedied by Snail by going 2" or so wider stance(less chance of roll over) At least Snail did not install a suspension lift which really wears out balljoints and CV axles as they are at a steeper axle. As far as gears/transmission strain go, I haven't heard any horror stories as Toyota generally overbuilds their drivetrain components. All I ever heard or read was premature ball joint wear/axle wrap issues/CV axles breaking on trucks with suspension lifts.
