Jesse meets an enthusiastic Eastern Milk Snake along the trail, and spends some time getting to know him before releasing him on the other side. We attempty to learn about the different markings on milk snakes and copperheads, and a few other fun facts about milk snakes, like seeing them eat other snakes. But it's difficult for Jesse to finish a complete thought because he keep getting interrupted by the snake biting him. More than fifty times!

LOL we have raised and hand-fed milks and kings for many years, and even hatched out a few. Curious bites are in their nature and are akin to a toddler wanting to touch everything, but snakes don't have hands so they use their mouth. They have other body language that would suggest they're grumpy, but this guy was legit being playful...although I'm sure it didn't look that way to many viewers LOL

Thanks 😊 I am extremely cautious depending on who is doing the biting. A bite from a cat or dog or even a chipmunk would be significantly worse than a little milk snake bite. And I know their nature is to bite out of curiosity not from stress or fear, so that’s why I can have so much fun with it 😂

Good questions. Bites on my clothes felt like nothing or next to nothing. Bites on my face felt like tiny pin pricks but still very minor. Rat snakes compete with copperheads for food and habitat but they do coexist. Racers and milks and kings however will eat copperheads as well as competing with them for food and habitat. Thanks for commenting and subscribing!

@@amandastakeonit7402 at a glance I think some of them can be easy to confuse. A normal corn wears a similar pattern too. Some eastern milks wear darker saddles, which look closer to the solid black saddles on a young rat. Yesterday we saw a nearly black colored water snake that looked almost like a rat snake at first glance. I have a friend who almost picked up a black phase timber rattlesnake once thinking it was a melanistic (black phase) hognose for a second! @@arjay5824 maybe, maybe not. I’m sure hundreds of reptiles cross that trail on their own every day just fine. But I regularly find them killed on the trail, or missing tails or with kinked spines from being stepped on or hit. I do usually help the ones on the trail and spend a few minutes with them. Often times I let other trail folks pet them and learn about them. I also know many milks are misidentified as copperheads and killed so I thought I’d make a video with this one. I was planning to focus on markings but instead it turned into a fun biting video. But to your point, I don’t handle everything I find. I’ve had thousands of snakebites, none venomous, and 99% of them are not memorable. There have been a few good ones though 😂😂 but milksnakes are so curious and adorable 🥰

Well, if you'd actually stop telling everybody he's biting you every, single time he does - since we can see it happening - you could get more info out. I mean, a couple times here and there, fine, but it was the same thing every time he bit. It was a bit overboard, to be honest.

Our laidback “laugh and learn” style is a bit wacky I admit. But thanks for watching and taking a minute to share your thoughts with us!

I never thought I'd say a snake was cute- but he's cute! It's probably the biting. 🫦

That’s 💯 why we share these stories, so people can see the animal’s personality. And you’re right milk snakes are extremely cute and curious.
