I absolutely love how Scott and all his charisma took Archie by the reigns and got him out of the car. Simply told Archie “NO” and placed the floor mat over his face and the daddy came out of Scott telling him he was naughty. No wonder you are a fantastic Vet!!!!!!

The snake was such an intresting case...wish there was an update at the end on her! Poor Herb needs a haircut! That would sooooo make it easier to find those pesky grass seeds(just a thought). My mom and dad have 2 doodles a lab and a golden and we in US don't have grass seeds like that. I have a Standard Poodle and he gets a shave down every 6 to 8 weeks! Makes life so much easier! That bulldog was such a cutie! I just adopted an American Bulldog/mix (she looks like a pit) boy is she hyper! WOW IN YR FACE AND LOVE ME 24/7. Needs lots of training! Lol I lost a cat @ 18 to cancer (that was a few yrs back now) lost another little over a year ago @ only 11yrs 10 mo to his Pancreas...I was giving him IV fluids daily and this high calorie paste stuff that is like a meal. But after a week of trying Gods needed his as an angel. So he like 10+ furbabies over my life time are waiting for me over the Rainbow bridge. I can't wait to see them again but I have 9 furbabies and 2 kids counting on me to be here for a long time so I pray my call from the big man is at least 50+yrs away. I have more rescues in my future! 💜 Love learning new stuff and love my furbabies!

My half Siamese neutered boy is turning 20 on Halloween. He has attained the greatest age of any of my cats, and I have had many, as I am 75. Like Sadie, his brother died of a wasting disease a few years ago. I loved his brother very much, but this little guy has always been so attached to me and pretty much always wants me near. I have joked that I have a cat shape growth on my body, so persistently affectionate is he. The thing is, he was diagnosed with mild kidney disease a year and a half or so ago, and I put him on special, very expensive food. He was wasting away at a very rapid rate, losing muscle mass and all fat. I thought he was on the way out as did all who saw him. I ran out of the expensive canned food and bought some ordinary canned pate at the store for him. He began gaining weight, looks so much better, and seems in good health. I hope to have a little party for him at home. He doesn’t enjoy going out! 😆😁😻😸🦐🐟🍗🎂🍦😻

This foxtail type of seed is nuthin' but trouble! I had to keep my dog's feet trimmed up so I could see the seeds, and had to clear the yard of that type of grass, and thoroughly inspect after every outing to outside the yard. Foxtails get into ears (like Herb's), eyes, noses, vulvas, and feet. Nuthin' but trouble.

Daily brushing and combing is in order. What better way to be able to check for unwanted, undesirable debris and hitchhikers. Daily grooming is also in order to insure his feet are inspected as well. I wouldn't say keeping him shaved is necessary, but certainly a professional grooming may be a good place to start and perhaps suggestions from the groomer as to an appropriate and easily maintained "hairstyle" going forward.
@foxxiangel6384
@foxxiangel6384 4 жыл бұрын
as cimogm says, regular brushing would be fine and 100x better in the long run. dogs should never be shaved aside from for medical necessity( when they’re putting in an IV, prepping for a procedure, etc.). when you shave a dog like herb who has a second coat, he can no longer grow back that second coat and therefore never regulate their temperature anymore. they live in a very hot country where unshaven dogs are already at risk of heat stroke and that would just increase the risk. and as the doctor said, checking between his paws to see if he has come in contact with the grass seeds and then brush down. now that you know this information, please never suggest a dog gets shaved again.

@@foxxiangel6384 BS. The coat will grown back in just fine. I had a spitz/poodle mix who looked like a miniature samoyed.....same thick coat, same deep luscious under coat. I kinda feel like at least the tech who owns snakes should have known straight away what it was. Also handling a snake during a shed is generally frowned upon, isn't it? Instead of the bag, a small container with breathing holes would have been a better way to transport the poor baby.

@@skaisnotdead Ball python owner here to address some concerns. -Handling a snake during shed is frowned upon, however he did say "I think she's had a shed" meaning I don't think he knew if she did or not since she had some pieces coming off near the neck already. How could he not know if the snake didn't shed? Because right before shedding their skin clears up pretty well. Almost as if they did shed. My snake has fooled me once, but he produced a skin a day later. The reason why handling a snake during shed is frowned upon is because they feel more vulnerable, and with an already anxious species like ball pythons it makes the handling a more stressful experience. -Bags (pillow cases included) are actually used many times in snake transport. They are very breathable, and your body heat transfers better to them if you're holding them otw to your destination. Often they are put into bags, and then put into boxes. This keeps them from flying around, and provides a dark safe space (which they feel the most at ease in). However just a box with holes is fine too! Hope this helps!
@kataratify
@kataratify 4 жыл бұрын
@@DeidarasLilStudent Going to also add that yes, handling snakes before a shed can be stressful for the snake because their eyes are also impacted by the shed. They refer to shedding as "going blue" because the snake will shed its eye caps as well. I find it's sad that they don't provide more reptile instructions to those going to vet school. That snake clearly had a UTI - and I REALLY hope they're practicing good quarantine procedures between the vets home collection and the ones he's looking after. UTI's are extremely contagious - don't want the other snakes getting sick. @schwarze Falkenseele - I'm sorry your lost yours! (I have 3 atm, they're such sweet misunderstood creatures)

My daughter's cat just turned 17 and had exactly the same starting weight and exactly the same weight loss. And it turns out she has hyperthyroidism. Now she is facing possible cancer. My daughter is devastated. UPDATE: Nov. 2021 - Cat DID have liver cancer. She also developed a thyroid cyst that was fast growing and started to cut off her breathing. We had both operated on in Aug. 2020. The cyst was completely removed but they could only get about 2/3 of the cancer. It was wrapped around the major veins of the liver. The oncologist recommended AGAINST chemo as the drugs were so toxic and the cat was so old that the chemo drugs were more likely to kill her. Plus the cancer was a low grade/slow growing kind. Well, the cat is now 18 1/2 years old. She is on thyroid drugs (but less), heart medication and kidney medications, but seems to be doing just fine. :o)

I know lots of people love purebreds. I’m in no way dissing anyone for loving a specific breed... but I wish we would stop breeding these poor animals to have a specific look only to give them loads of health issues. Same goes for unnecessary medical procedures for “a look” only to give the animal health issues or pain. These poor animals have no say, they can only hope for a human who will love them unconditionally and get them medical help when needed

Archie got out of the man’s car right away because it’s not his territory, it’s a neutral territory, he acts so aggressive when people try to get him out of his owners car because it’s his territory that they’re invading & trying to pull him away from so he gets aggressive to protect it, when a dog is cornered & pushed they bite because flight is no longer an option & the spot that Archie sits in his owners car is technically a corner, he’s trapped under the dash with no escape so he lashes out & tries to bite. I feel bad for the guy with Sadie the cat, Sadies getting to the end of her life, my cat lost a ton of weight right before she passed which is typical for cats so if there’s no real reason that she’s losing weight then that’s a sign time is almost up.

Vet school is akin to medical school for humans. The difference is that they have to learn far more because we're talking about a lot of different species with different physiology in each. No one can learn it all, so they have students choose their preference for small animal, exotic small animal, large animal, and wildlife/zoology specialists. Most small animal vets that will see exotics like snakes have to constantly learn on the job.

Noone could possibly learn everything at vet school. Even now You choose between your specialiations: Small animals, Exotics (reptiles, birds etc) Large/farm animals and often times even Horses as an extra. A vet student in A uni here As an example takes 12 Semesters. There just isnt a vet for everything unless we were to sit them in Uni for 20 Years, but that isnt possible

They don’t learn it all in human medical school either....Many conditions are a mere mention in a paragraph of a text book and never mentioned again...as someone who has a couple of those conditions myself...I find vets have heard of it more often than human medical doctors🤷🏻‍♀️

DR Jo Jerjis did great with the snake. Nurse Nathan is right, vets SHOULD help ALL ANIMALS, BIG AND SMALL. I don't believe all vets do which is sad. They should be and be taught in ALL VET SCHOOLS. Each story had a happy ending. 👍👍👍👍

Yep, he is in dire need of a haircut. I know his family loves him, but there's no excuse for not having him groomed regularly. They were finding all kinds of seeds all over his body. I keep my grass cut very short so my dogs don't get those things, and I check them every time they come in for those. I have short haired dogs, so the seeds are easy to see and remove. I love snakes. Watching this with my Albino Burmese Python male named Holiday. Margaret is a Royal Ball Python who appears to have an upper respiratory infection. Humidity would help her as well. Royal Balls need at least 60% humidity or they can become ill and have difficulty shedding. So happy for Sadie and John the news was good.

That ball python definitely has a UTI, but it can develop into pneumonia very quickly. She isn't kept warm enough (85-90 degrees Fahrenheit is perfect), or humid enough (should be 75-80 percent humidity). Even pneumonia is treatable, but it's a long haul with very strong antibiotics, high heat and humidity. I had one of mine come down with a UTI, and caught it quickly, luckily. That was a few years ago, and she's been fine ever since. And snakes need checking after they shed to be sure all the old skin has been shed, especially the eye caps, which are part of the skin. If it's not humid enough, the sheds will be patchy and incomplete. A snake should shed in one big piece. (Jan Griffiths).

Stuck shed and respiratory issues tell me the ball python isn't being kept in enough humidity, and possibly isn't getting enough fresh water. Unless something in her husbandry changes this will happen again.

We have those grass seeds in parts of North America too, we call them fox tails. Unfortunately because they are a type of grass many types of weed killers kill weeds without killing grass so it dosent work on them. They call also easily get into the genitals, eyes, nose and ears. Please always check your pets if they have been running around fox tails (grass seeds)
