This year we're mixing up how we brumate our snakes. Instead of keeping them in our basement (which our new house doesn't have), we're keeping them in a commercial fridge!

To black out the doors on the fridge you can very simply just tape cardboard on the doors. You probably get quite a lot of cardboard boxes when ordering things, just cut them into big sheets. 🐍😊

Magnets with strong self-adhesive backing might be the order of the day. Stick some to the door, stick some to the sheets. Play your cards right and you might be able to use the same sheets for other purposes (e.g. indigo snakes). If the magnets don't stick to the door or sheets, possibly a steel strip would stick better. If nothing's sticking to the sheets, it might be possible to fix something to it by sewing it on. Punching holes in a steel strip and sewing through them is one example. It might be possible to get a magnet with a hole in the centre, which could be sewn through as well.

to black out the fridge doors, if you wanna stick with fabric, you can use velcro to attach them to the fridge door. you can just buy velcro tape and use fabric glue to make it more secure on to the fabric. it can even work with the strips, just velcro those together and ve;cro the whole thing on to the fridge door. then when you wanna use them on the indigo cages again you can also attach velcro on their cages, that way it's multi-purpose.

I have to disagree that they have a “big” commercial enterprise, it’s still just the two them and a handful of staff at one location. That’s still considered a small business even including the channel. And people buy and sell houses all the time for a number of reasons and since they haven’t talked about why the moved on the channel (and they are not obligated to) there are probably dozens of good reasons why they sold the old house, not just because they “traded up”. But even if they had “traded up” I see no problem with that for people who have genuinely worked their butts off as much as Emily and Ed have to build up their business. Yes there is some nostalgia attached to the old house, and you’re allowed to miss it, but Emily and Ed have graciously allowed us into their lives by creating these videos and as viewers we should respect the decisions they make for their own personal reasons

You could use black chalk paint on the windows to black them out, which would also give you a place to take notes about any issues or certain Snakes you may have had to check on more frequently. Also, for the Brumation Station logo, find someone with a Cricut machine and you'll have an awesome graphic printed on vinyl with a sticky backing. If the person's really good, they may be able to print the train, tracks and snakes separately so you could stick them up however you please. I think they even have some that's removable and reusable. And actually, the vinyl sheets could be an excellent way to black out the windows! You could put a sheet on the inside of the doors, outside of the doors, or even both! Plus, you could make liftable "flaps" to use for peeking inside so you wouldn't have to open the doors every time you want to check on your snoozing snakes. 🤘🏻😊💕 ETA: Using the vinyl, you'd be able to use dry erase markers to make notes on it I believe. You may want to test that before going gung-ho, though. 😅

for the fridge: black-core foam core, velcro 3m strips on the inside of the glass, so you can re-use the same foam core each year. its super light weight and easy to cut to size, and should be black-out (unlike white-core, which isn't). any of your signage friends should have some or know where to find some locally if your local craft/hobby store doesn't keep any in stock!

I had a similar thought. It would be a good idea to have alarms on this refrigerator. Sometimes, thermostats fail. I had a thermostat fail on a refrigerator once; it got stuck, and the refrigerator kept getting colder and colder until a big block of ice formed in the back. Allowing food or drinks to get a bit too cold isn't usually a big deal, but allowing the snakes to get too cold would be a disaster.

Is there enough air exchange to get a good oxygen supply for all of them? Edit; you could get magnet strips and glue them along the top of each door :)

If this "fridge" is going to be permanently used as a brumation station, maybe you can just get a room darkening film for windows? I have some for my bedroom windows and I love it! You can put a sheet on either side (inside and outside) to double up and make it even darker!

So happy to see Brad healed up well ♥️ It's so strange seeing a wound on a snake like that... I was sure it looked worse than it was, but still comforting to see she's healed well.

Idea for a better cover for the fridge. Add velcro strips to strip fabric. Along all edges or even just top and bottoms. Then you can easily peel the covers to peek, and they won't move.

I just suggested that as well. The adhesive is usually very strong as well, so they won't have to worry about it falling off like the tape.

Since the doors are glass you could just use window vinyls that are blackout. You dampen them, stick them on, cut to size, and they stick via static. Completely removable without consequences and the are super easy to install/replace. That way you aren't messing with the doors opening and closing too. They are on amazon and are usually used for privacy in rentals. I have them on all my 1st floor windows.

For the darkening, I think velcro would work really well, get the ones with adhesive on the back and you can stick it right onto the door frame. You might have to sew the other part onto the black fabric (if fabric/felt is what you decide to use) but it will be reusable

You can always use a blackout window film and it should look sleek and block out all the light! Best part is it doesn’t damage the glass if you wanted to take it off in the future and you can add stickers on top of it

I've always loved all types of reptiles, I was never extremely interested but now I realize that's only because I never had the proper genuine knowledge or education about them !!! Sense finding this channel ive watched tons of videos and have learned so much !! Sadly I'm on the other side of the country but im a huge fan nonetheless. In my current situation I cannot have a reptile but in the future I am definitely going to adopt a snake or gecko/lizard and do all research possible to make sure I properly care for him/her. Thank you for all the effort and care you put into taking care of all kinds of reptiles and situations you get them from, it's not as common as it should be and you putting it out there like you guys do, and being so informational in a fun way really makes a huge difference!!!!! Love you guys ! 🤍😁

I bought some adhesive black vinyl that I used to black out the glass doors on a cabinet I bought. You can get that stuff in rolls off the internet. It goes on really well if you just spray the glass with some water and use a squeegee to get rid of air bubbles!

For the fridge cover you could put strips of self-adhesive velcro along the edges of the doors, and sew/iron/stick the opposing velcro onto the fabric covers. Then you can easily take the covers on and off without worrying about tape or sticky residue ect

Spicy bacon? Sounds like a yummy new food. Lol For covering the fridge, you could use black foam board from the dollar store. We had to use it in our old apartment to black out and insulate some windows for winter. The black ones are wonderful and you can cut them to exact size then tape them in place so they cover each door exactly.
