Don't forget about the power loss, the matco is notable. Had bolts that the matco wouldn't break loss that the snap on and Mac broke free without issues

Hello CP AND HENRY: THANK YOU for this important video. After my extreme experiences with Crapsman and SK I refuse to purchase nothing but Snap On impact & chrome swivels. I must say that I have never had any problems or failures of any kind. Thank again CP & my best to Henry. TMP from N.J.

As a career technician I agree, swivel stockers need to be inspect before every use. Using swivel sockets on an extension that has no locking mechanism is very dangerous Always inspect the hog ring on your impacts tool Over the last couple years I’ve invested in impact rated extensions with built in swivels

I have a coworker with the MAC set, and i absolutely love them, they’re just so shallow they fit pretty much anywhere. MAC just doesn’t have the old design in stock anymore, so I’ve been trying to look for something similar, they’re new redesign just doesn’t cut it on some jobs

I used to use the swivel adapters for the longest time. It's actually nice to move onto swivel sockets. You're definitely right though that the cheaper designs with the bulky collars are annoying when compared to the welded pins. Something that may be good to note, from torque test channel when they tested impact swivels, the pinned designs seem to transfer the torque from impacts better than pinless designs.

I don't think the welded in pins are about preventing pins flying off, it's likely about stopping pins partially pushing out and tearing up the users hands. A lot of people 'ride' the swivels with their free hand, especially when starting the socket.

Finally bit the bullet and bought Snap on’s both 3/8 and 1/2 Fortunately, I’ve never experienced a severe failure and for that reason I keep a close eye on them. As soon as they even start getting loose, I get them warranted out

I have mostly MAC swivel sockets but I have had Matco metric for around 13 years and GP 1/4 metric for around 15 years. You are 100% correct in this video. The older Matco likes to bind up. The GP has served me well but I really don’t put a lot of torque on 1/4. My 3/8 and 1/2 MAC take a beating daily. Main reason I bought them was two of the reasons you named. Using an adapter is dangerous! I seriously can’t tell you how many times I was using it on an impact then the socket some off becoming a missile! Also using an adapter creates one long socket limiting room. Great video please keep them coming!

Now the power in modern impacts a 3/8 today has more than a 1/2 from back in the day so that's a safety issue so price shouldn't be a issue on which ones you get

I started with the Snap On pinned adapters in the 90’s, switched to universals with the collars and finally the welded universals. Still use the adapter for sizes I don’t have.

I bought Gearwrench. I understand the tool truck ones are better but the amount of times I use them will be so small it doesn’t justify the price. Plus Gearwrench just came out with the deep and I was going to try Astro’s version. If I break one then I might look at changing them to snap on. But like you said in the video you’re giving your opinion. But I do agree the Gearwrench base is comically large.

A guy had one break and come apart in the shop last week. Went through the window of the car in the bay over from him. Luckily nobody got hurt. I will say if you buy just the adapter go with the locking pin over the retaining ball. The pin really locks the socket on.

I dont know much about swivel sockets. Besides knowing swivel sockets come handy with tight areas. I bought 3/8 sets of Grey Pneumatic because I've heard Grey Pneumatic can take a massive beating. Like any other socket, it'll need to be replaced due to use and wear.

Thanks for the informative vid. I’ve been checking out Sunex and GP, like you mentioned for budget-conscious lines, but they all seem to be pinless with chunky collars. Do you have any others in mind? Thanks!
@zackschwenzer4892
@zackschwenzer4892 3 ай бұрын
I don't have experience with GP but any Sunex swivel I've seen is pinned and have held up quite well. They're not the slimmest profile with the collars but far less bulky than gearwrench. Pinless swivels seem to have a slightly wider base, but Astro has 3/8 and 1/2 drive shallow swivels. They're supposed to be coming out with deep swivels soon, too.

I almost pulled the trigger on some snappy’s or matco swivels but it just didn’t fit the budget. I ended up getting gearwrench swivels. I regret buying them. I wasn’t happy about the 3/8 cause they sent me deeps not shallows then wouldn’t let me return them. Home Depot returns/warranty has been bad luck for me.

Does anyone else put impact grease into the pinned area of the socket? I put a small amount of grease into the swivel area and blow it into there with some compressed air. Then about once a year i will clean out all the old grease and dirt and regrease it.
