I love the gp sockets and I have all 3 depths in 3/8. But after buying a snap-on deep set i gotta say i prefer those now. The way snap-on makes the wall thickness so thin is great in tight spots. I'm a socket fool too and i have some late 90s craftsman that supposedly was manufactured by sk and they're awesome too.

I have the Grey pneumatic semi deeps and like them. I also have the Harbor Freight impacts and there actually pretty good sockets hold up well.

You can buy GP from Mac Tools (it's a "non-catalog" item). Go to the GP website, write down the part number(s) you are interested in, then add the letters GRY in front of the part number(s). For example part number 9712UM (1/4" metric universal metric set) would be GRY9712UM when ordering from Mac Tools (call or talk to your local dealer). And they will handle the warranty. Mac ships free too, just need to pay sales tax. One thing that GP won't do is warranty their stuff bought from places like Amazon, Zorro, etc, or if you buy them private sale from craigslist, ebay, or Facebook marketplace. I would only buy GP from a non-authorized distributor for a lower price if I want to keep an emergency back-up set for my main sockets that I use.

I’ve had them for a little over a month and between my snap on 761-a and my snap on 768 long neck they’ve had the shot worked out of them and are holding up fantastically. The finish they put on there holds up really well even when rubbing against other metals.. just get it oily and wipe it down and good as new..

@@moparfanboy I agree, the Matco finish seems nicer, the machining seems smoother, better stamping, more designs. I mean the ADV lineup is huge, you can get any socket in any design you could ever dream of, (though sunex may not make every socket in the ADV lineup, I think 1/2 and up are customized GP, regardless, the quality seems to be there along the whole line) Lifetime no hassle warranty that drives to you. Sunex is great for the money, but not quite the same. Sunex does alot of custom OEM work for Matco. Matco has alot of OEM manufacturers, my dealer makes no secrets about it. Here's the thing that people don't understand about a good tool dealer. He will tell you what tool you need. He's been around and he knows what tool to do that exact problemed job that is losing you money. He increases your efficiency. Sometimes the right tool can save you 3+ hours on a job. That convenience costs money to. Especially for an independent and you don't have the "support network" that the dealership offers, it's invaluable.

I bought my first Snap-On set of 3/8 shallow impacts. They are very thin and small compared to our Proto we use at work. Is that a good thing? Some negatives to my snap-on is the numbers aren't stamped deep so its hard to read and the metal is really soft. After one use where the impact goes into the socket its already deformed. We used our Proto for 3 years and it don't look like that.

Just curious because I too love the Hansen rails. Are the snap on impacts the only ones that fit appropriately? This would be a great video for the future because I’ve looked everywhere on KZfaq and can’t seem to find it.
