amzn.to/42dOipN Snap On vs. Braun in the Folding Rechargeable Slimline Penlight Worklight Space: Winner? It Depends. The Braun weighs twice as much, has a 500 lumen output over the Snap On's 300 lumens. The Braun has a 360 degree light bar spin, one 18650 replaceable battery, a USBC charging port, two main light outputs, one flashlight tip output, and a battery life indicator. What's not to like. Only the feel that a few quality corners were cut to preserve the sub $50 price. But perhaps that's the point with a heavy use almost-expendable light like this.

When I was deciding between the braun and icon, I like the icon. It's slimmer than the braun, more lumens and overall good quality. I saw someone did disassemble both to see what's inside. And Icon is just better made.

That's what I was gonna say... it's much better than the Braun.. I've had both for a while (obviously the Braun for years).. The ICON is a better design..people are used to the old style lights and can't seem to see the obvious upgrade that the ICON lights are.. hard for them to wrap their brains around...😅

Braun is at Harbor Freight, just bought 12 for each machine at my company. Tested 3 first to make sure they held up in a actual work environment before getting the last 12. The plastic Snap-On would probably work well for the guys who dont like getting their nails dirty. if its not metal in the business areas its a toy. Anyways, The price was 24$ at Harbor Freight the same day this video posted.

I've got several of the Braun lights. They work well but just like you had an issue with turning the light on while manipulating it, mine in my backpack would constantly be dead because they would turn themselves on unless I removed the battery. The new design with the double join is a game changer. Turn it so it protects the switch as well as it folds up smaller for easier storage in a backpack or veto bag. Thanks for the review!

180° - magnet sticks on something like a hood of a car, where it's upside down and at an angle, if trying to illuminate.the engine bay. This feature enables you to direct the light downward, towards the engine bay, or firewall, instead of facing away from where you want. Pretty darn cool

My snap on one is a daily carry for me the light output is perfect and it weighs nothing and fits in the pocket great. It's perfect to slap in a switch gear and pm a starter bucket and still had a good amount of light when all power is dead

The Braun O-ring may have failed because all varieties of Super Lube except the O-ring grease are incompatible with most O-rings, specifically nitrile, butyl, natural rubber, EPDM, and SBR. From my understanding, the O-ring grease has a high aniline point that prevents it from penetrating the O-ring which causes swelling and cracking. The O-ring grease also resists evaporation at low temperatures and pressure which makes it suitable for cryogenic and vacuum applications that can vaporize greases with lower aniline points.
@Ken-Muir
@Ken-Muir Жыл бұрын
Your comment piqued my curiosity, so I had a look at Super Lube's website and checked out the Compatibility Charts for their "Silicone Dielectric and Vacuum Grease" (as used in the video) and their "O-Ring Silicone Grease". The charts show each product's compatibility for various plastics and rubbers on a scale of "Excellent", "Good" and "Not Compatible". The two charts show identical compatibilities for all 32 materials listed. For example, both products are rated "Excellent" for Viton (FKM), Nitrile (NBR), Natural Rubber (NR), EPDM, Butyl (IIR), and Buna S. Similarly, both products are only "Good" with Delrin; and both are "Not Compatible" with Silicone Rubber. So, if the compatibilities are the same, what's the difference between them? The Technical Data Sheets for both products show that while the Temperature Range, Viscosity, Water Washout, and Evaporation Loss (at 100 deg C) are exactly the same, the Dielectric Strength of the Dielectric Grease is nearly twice that of the O-Ring Grease. It therefore seems that the products are extremely similar, and both are compatible with a wide variety of o-rings, but the Dielectric grease has better electrical insulating qualities.

@snagglepussrex8108 Жыл бұрын
@@Ken-Muir thank you for pointing that out, maybe I need to get my eyes checked 😅 According to the TDS, both greases "help reduce the overall leak rate in vacuum applications by filling the spaces of the gland's surfaces and lowering permeation rates of the elastomer". The Vacuum Grease "outperforms in both vacuum and pressure systems" due to its nil vapor pressure. The vapor pressure of the vacuum grease is 1/50,000,000th that of the O-ring grease, so despite their similar physical characteristics there is definitely something spooky going on. Using the O Ring Grease "preserves and lubricates rubbers and plastics" and "helps protect the O ring from damage by abrasion, pinching, or cutting" and "in dynamic pneumatic applications will extend the equipment's service life". Vacuum O rings are usually sealed with bolts which is much less abrasive than a twist-on connection where the lubrication of the O ring grease might be better suited. I imagine the finish on the mating surfaces of the Braun are not the smoothest either which could contribute to the degradation.

Maybe that extra rotation you were wondering about is so that you can position the on off switch where it won’t be in the way? Edit: Never mind. I hadn’t watched to the end before I posted this.

I also have the older Braun (2 of them) and it has some electrical issues. Most noticeably, when I turn it on it will come on, but then the impact of the magnetic base hitting whatever I am attaching it to (the car most often) knocks it and makes it get brighter. I'm not sure if it is changing "modes" or if something is loose. I like the light in general, but that's a quality issue for me. I recently bought the Icon version to leave in the truck. Haven't used it enough yet to have an opinion.

In regards to the Milwaukee light, they still make them or at least you can still buy them. I have one coming today. I going to return it because these lights do more and the Milwaukee is micro USB and has a lot of negative feedback. After looking around some more, I found two other Snapon foldable lights. One is the ECARD062, 600-800 Lumen Dual-Sided Flex Light (Red). The other seems to be very similar and appears to be an older version. The new one is $182, double or triple the cost of those shown here. Another I came across is the Astro 52L. Doc you might want to do a foldable light run down.

I have an old style braun i beat to death over the years. dropped it onto concrete from a story up and it is still ticking. looks like its been through hell. never had a problem with it at all. the upside to the 18650 is you can have a few of the batteries and an external charger and have no down time. never have to worry if i charged the light, or play with that port on the flashlight. I have about 4-5 of the batteries which I swap in and out. i believe the rotation is for when you have the light stuck to something via the magnet and need to move the focus of the light without dislodging the magnet. pulling the magnet off of something to adjust the light would be annoying. since my braun is so beat up i bought the icon, but had to return it once i learned i could not swap batteries. deal breaker for the way I use the light. my other complaint is it had the same hard to find switch as your snap on. impossible to use with gloves. i will eventually get this foldable one on sale when it is sub $20. also, not sure why you would call this a pen light, the form factor is nothing close to a pen, but maybe that is what snap on calls that green one, lemme kno. good review overall!
