As a player of both games, Snap Ships is a nice change up from X-Wing. The differences between the two systems mean that Snap Ships isn't just X-Wing with bigger lego ships.

My favorite thing about Snapship Tactics is the power management. Oh, and by extension, the fact that missiles aren't one time use. OH! And that individual components can be damaged and subsequently repaired. Yeah, that's a lot to love. My favorite thing about X-wing is the hidden maneuver mechanic during the planning phase. It's always a rush! I also like large squads if of ships, so both games have their place in my collection.

I think the hidden movement mechanic is what X-Wing players will miss the most in Snap Ships. It's a poker-like mechanic that's a lot of fun.

X-Wing models' bases can be attached to Snap Ships bases with poster putty. Fan-fic some chassis and parts cards and boom, Star Wars Tactics. Works for Star Trek Attack WIng as well. Heck, you could easily adapt it for Wings of Glory too. Snap Ship Tactics is perfect for X-Wing or Attack Wing players who are tired of being overwhelmed by the ever-changing rules and errata.

I already had snapship toys, which I used for scenery and objectives in tabletop games, so I was able to approach Snap Ships Tactics at a lower price level and still get a lot of stuff. Most of my friends prefer snapships over X-Wing when it comes to a dogfight game. There is just something about it that promotes fun times on game night. The creation of your force both physically and on paper. The quick gameplay and implementation of your creations in battle. Losing a game can be just as much fun as winning, as the story of the battle is usually exciting and memorable. This is probably helped by the fact we are not as invested in the factions as we are in more well known and established IPs. We do still play X-Wing ... Star Wars is ingrained into our culture, so playing in that universe is its own type of enjoyment. But Snap Ships Tactics has definitely taken over our table.

Hey crabbok seems like a real cool game! Power system caught my interest the most, I’m also not opposed to no armor save/defense roll but harder modifiers, it also sounds like a interesting mechanic. For me that golden age of x-wing was 1.0. Actually was the game that got me into all of FFGs other products at that time, and I continue to play! Even the game that first brought me to your channel wayyyy back. It def got a little to big to quickly and some upgrades near the end got a little out of hand but was still such a fun time for the game.

The clean and elegant design of XW 1.0 is by far the most bombshell release ive ever experienced. Even if it eventually needed a redoing, and even if XW2.0 and Snapships might be "better" games, XW1 is still the apex in this genre. No doubt, and im saying this as someone who thinks Armada outshines all of them.

I felt like before the Jumpmaster came out, X-Wing 1.0 was in it's golden age. Steady releases, beautiful ships, and lots of people playing all the time. It was a great time!

Still playing X-Wing 1.0. I might try 2.0 some day. We'll see if I ever get to 2.5.

I bought already the starter box and it is a very good game. However seems that in Europe it will be a no go for a lot of people because we don't have the expansions available for it here. Buying from US will be much more expensive than buy X-Wing locally. Very sad for such a good game.

I honestly got into Snap Ships because my son didn't want to share his Legos. When they announced Tactics, it was a perfect bonding game. Snap Ships Tactics is more approachable than X-Wing. My son was able to teach his friend how to play and they were able to complete a game in under an hour. I enjoy the versatility of being able to build a custom ship with the cards supplied in the game. X-Wing is a mess. My son doesn't like to play because of the prep time to make a squad and setup. He was disappointed that there was no conclusion after the 75 min rule. I bought into X-Wing when it was 1.0 a few months before 2.0 was announced. The best part of X-Wing was the "fly casual" attitude. I played at several tournaments and competed well. However, without the support that FFG provided to the stores, it is just hard to justify. At least with Snap Ships, I can have fun and feel good about building ships whether I play the game or note.

How does Starship Tactics handle a campaign? Can a "swarm" be created with Starship Tactics?
@chadnine3432
@chadnine3432 7 ай бұрын
There are no campaign rules for Snap Ships tactics out of the box. As the game gains traction, I'm hoping some fan will come up with something like HOTAC for Snap Ships. Swarms are possible, but Snap Ships is designed around 2-3 ships per side for a typical game. A "swarm" would be 4 scout size ships, and you'd have to play a larger game to accomadate them. Typical game size: 8-12 points. Ship costs: 3 pts for scouts, 4 pts for medium fighters, 5 pts for elite fighters.

There are AI cards for ships similar to the HotAC mechanics. IIRC, they were developed by the same guy.

I think one of the biggest problems with Snapship Tactics is what they are using as a selling point - the toy aspect. I LOVE the resource management of the game. I would maybe even be so bold to say that Snapship Tactics has a BETTER game system than x-wing. The problem is it is they toy aspect, and that is what is going to drag it down in my opinion. Despite the sheer volume of what you get for the game in terms of content - AI cards for solo or co-op play in the box, a full game, right in the box - compared to x-wing, Snapships has the better value there. But.. it lacks the known quantity - The ships you fly aren't based on anything you know, no IP. That in and of itself isn't bad - I'm getting tired the oversaturation of marvel and star wars. I'm all for the seeing what's new, story wise, but there's no draw to the vehicles. The universe and the ships seem overly.. generic. The building of the ships is very limited - and really just comes down to a visual aesthetic. Snapships feels like a toy, and the Tactics (game part) just feels tacked on. This is a shame, as it really feels that the game was made as a way to boost sales for a toy line that is, just not that successful. Again, I love the game, but I could just take the mechanics and make something using Lego and be able to do SO much more. As a toyline, Snapship Tactics is about 5/10 it's fun, but feels out of touch with the tmes. as a game, Snapship Tactics is 8/10 The mechanics are good, when it comes to resource management, and making what you do on a turn feel more meaningful - missiles are great!, but ultimately, there is nothing there that is going to draw a lot of people in. I really don't know if we will get an expansion for snapship tactics. The game feels one and done, with no future. Star Wars always had 'will they release my favourite ship next?', but snapships is will they release cards for the toy I bought from the budget bin? Don't get me wrong, I HOPE I am wrong, but It's hard to fight against the allure of an IP product. It's an uphill battle.

Well they actually wanted to make the Tabletop Game first, but they were Model Designers, not Game Developers. So the Toyline came out since it was a physical product they could sell and it does get the attention of Hobbyist, but kids in the digital age are hard to sell any physical product to. The Toys catch the eye of a Game Developer and they make a rather good Dogfighting game with them, but again kids hard to sell to and the Model Designers shifted to more Mech and Ground-focused Vehicles to better diversify their offerings. Now we're at this weird point where the Toys or the Game aren't well distributed, but interest is picking up now that the Game is here to provide further body to the Toy franchise. And given how the Snap Ship construction system works, it could easily accept specialty parts to recreate other IP's Vehicles.

Snap Ships made a video for content. (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/d7eJeLqQtJ-WaIE.htmlsi=fGUFTXCVZ48PcCQf) You can also find the videos where they made replica's of sci fi ships. With the rules customization section, I plan on running a BSG or Buck Rogers theme vs the stock Snap Ships. the Best ship is the one you build...
