I went to Walmart and found these cordless electric lithium ion tools by snapper; a mower, blower, trimmer, chainsaw and edger weed whip thing, yeah. The prices are pretty darn good and that's why i wanted to share this with you. If you are looking at going electric, perhaps give these a consideration? yes. Ok. I hope that helps.

I purchased the 60v trimmer and hedge clipper at the beginning of last summer. I cut 4/5 lawns a week with them no issues! Just brought home the mower this year didn't get to use it yet.

This is m y 3rd season with the 60v mower and it works great, no problems and plenty of run time for my smaller yard. And yes it does change the speed, how I have no clue...

Snapper doesn't show a 60 volt mower on their website: 48v & 82v are all they have.

It appears their site no longer shows it but the main video on their home tab of their youtube channel is showing the 60v mower video for me still... interesting.

Snapper discontinue 60v for reasons unknown to me. And turned it to a 58v . Really sucks because I bought the 60v blower ,hedge trimmer and chainsaw last year . I want the weed eater too, but I can't find it anywhere

It's just a coincidence that I just happened to have acquired one of these Snapper 60V battery for my next project. I'll tell you what it is when I get done with it (it's definitely not for Snapper tools!)

I recently borrowed a relative's 80v Kobalt electric chainsaw and the battery looked very similar to the snapper. I'm too heavily invested in 20v Dewalt now :( I'm still trying to figure out a good electric riding mower solution (have to cut ~2 acres) that's sub $1k.

interesting. Dang man, best thing i can come up with is to make something out of an old mobility wheelchair and a couple old electric cordless mowers and yeah... it would be quite the project. sub 1k is tuff..... really tuff..

I was thinking more along the lines of an old riding mower with a bad engine, manual trans, and replacing the gas engine with a secondary/small motor from an electric forklift & it's controller, or something similar (hell, maybe an old treadmill might even suffice), with a DIY battery pack. You're idea does sound more unique and interesting though.

Bro, seriously, you've NEVER heard of Snapper before? At first I thought it was a joke, then realized you were serious.... Not to be rude of course, but dang... I just find that incredibly hard to believe. 🤔⁉️😱

Generally speaking , they've been around quite a while and have a good reputation (FOR THE MOST PART), up there with those like Toro, Craftsman, Scott, MTD, etc.... Pretty much all big name companies can be blamed for making lower quality units to move quickly at Big Box stores, and Snapper is no different. However, IMO, a good Snapper from one of their dealers is a very high quality piece of equipment. I'd even choose a Snapper over most other "good" brands. (That being said, all companies have less than stellar models sprinkled in their line up here and there which can give someone a bad impression on them if it's the first unit of theirs they've used.)

I think a main point your missing is that the BEST thing to do is get rid of most of your lawn, and plant trees, shrubs, and wildflowers native to your area instead!

My area has native grass all over, it seems. Zero sprinkler systems. Gras just grows and the rain is enough. Strange compared to where I grew up.

@@TRYtoHELPyou I don't know where you are, but if it has native grass, it shouldn't be mowed at all. North American grasses tend to get quite tall, although there is a prairie grass called buffalo grass that doesn't get very tall, but again, doesn't need mowing. The same is true of a lot of native sedges. Most of these turfgrasses, including "Kentucky Bluegrass", are Asian exotic plants, which became pervasive in this country for what must be very idiosynchratic reasons. I think this kind of native landscaping should appeal to people who care about the environment enough to be interested in Electric Vehicles.

Maryland. When i mean Native i mean i have not needed to seed or water the grass. And if i let it grow the county will plant a post in my yard and charge $1000.00 per day for a period of time then send in a crew to cut the lawn down. some houses let it go and it does get about waist high. Environmental impact should very much be on our mind. I am not going to rip out my lawn to have bare dirt to then just have the grass grow right back. I am also not going to burn gas to cut the grass. When we first moved in we got rid of a patch of lawn next to the house and 6 months later it filled right in. Its crazy. Nothing like southern California, for instance.

@@TRYtoHELPyou These Asian cool season grasses are very invasive, and don't put down deep roots. If you remove a patch of grass, you have to plant something there (milkweed, Joe Pye weed, Little Bluestem, there are many beneficial native plants you can put in) and once it gets established, the grass won't come back. I agree that environmental impact should be very much on our mind, and since I haven't gotten rid of all my grass yet (and will still need to mow paths) I agree that getting an electric mower is the way to go. HOWEVER, an electric mower should not be used as an excuse to cultivate more lawn, because we need native plants, not lawn.

There is likely a factory in China that produces these and the management of the "name brand" companies are just setting up production runs. I keep seeing this more and more. Especially with ebikes and Kickstarter like campaigns. Acting like they are developing a brand new product when they simply are just setting up a production run with a company already manufacturing the product.

2-year battery warranty? The old SLA batteries last at least that long. Imagine if EVs had a 2-year battery warranty.
@TRYtoHELPyou
@TRYtoHELPyou 6 жыл бұрын
the warranty for this is 3 years and its SLA. Not much of a difference there.www.ryobitools.com/electric-riding-mower/ Also this black and decker with SLA batteries, a better direct comparrison and one i actually own, has only a 2 year warranty. www.blackanddecker.com/products/lawn-and-garden/lawn/lawn-mowers/36v-19-in-mulchingbagging-mower/cm1936 To imagine if EVs had a 2 year battery warranty would only make sense to have it be an incredibly inexpensive EV, like those 600 dollar ebikes on amazon....

TRY to HELP you, I could go for a 2-year warranty on a cell phone or laptop battery (if it doesn’t have the 80% charge feature to extend battery life), but if someone will sell a lithium ion battery for something bigger, like an electric scooter (Vespa size), mower, etc, then I’d expect it to have a warranty that makes it worth it, like all EVs do, Seems like if they just used a better BMS they could offer 5 years based on charging it 4x per week from 20% to 80%.

I agree! I think they just dont design the battery circuitry themselves, nor understand the detailed information on the different types of 18650 batteries and the importance of thermal management. Imagine if tesla developed a riding lawn mower.... So it would probably be expensive, but im sure it would last a while in the battery department. Imagine a Tesla riding mower than doubles up as a powerwall for when its not being used mowing the lawn.... (mind blown)

One of the big issues with lithium batteries is that few users know how to maintain them, or even that they require maintenance. For example, during the winter months most people assume you just put the battery on the charger and then you're done. Nope, you have to discharge it to just after the 50% battery light goes off. And if you have a longer winter, the manual says to charge it back to 100% and then run it down to past 50% again. This is because its bad for all lithium batteries to be stored at 100% where oxidation is at its maximum. Many also charge their batteries in a non-conditioned space like a shed or garage, big no no. Best to do it in your conditioned washroom indoors, as heat and extreme cold hurt batteries big time. 2-year warranty is long enough to protect the user form factory defects, and yet not punish the factory for stupid users that don't read the damn manual.
