I love my snapper. It is a 1989 I think. It has the square frame and I heard the only made it a couple of years. But I seems like I can get all the parts I need for it. It really cuts great but it is made for flat ground mostly. It gets light in the front end sometimes and is hard to steer. But it really has a low center of gravity. And this one last me 2 years and started chunking out. BUT that is about 10 tanks of gas. When it starts wearing out it sometimes won't pull a hill so good. Thats when you know you need to get one soon.

I have a 1977 series 1. I have never driven or mowed or anything but clean paint and reassemble yet. I completely forgot how all these linkages went back on. Been working on it for days. But when I purchased it was a oil/ greasy mess from the seat back. Now it will be clean anyway. I can see I need a new clutch like you purchased and new brake cable. I already put on new axle boots. The part book I have helps some, if you know where to look. Today I'm taking the operator manual and printing it off, to see if that will have any pictures.

Perfect! Brilliant! I ordered a clutch/pressure rubber disk. Now I wish I'd have ordered that yoke. I would have never known about all this before your video. Great information. Thank you.

This model has the same frame as they did in 1967, 1973, whatever. The beauty of Snapper is, once they got it right, they didn't change it.

Great video and instructions on how to fix the clutch. Years ago I had a Roof riding mower with the solid drive clutch. I was surprised to see the slip clutch on a Snapper I bought. The Roof mower was a good machine much like the older Snappers. The new Snappers seem to have sacrificed quality to cut cost on their machines. I still have an old model Snapper that belonged to my father in law. I think it'll still be around when the new one is gone. Thanks again for the great video and instructions.

Dear Mr.Petro, Thank you so very much for the informative video. I have Two snappers and both are 28” machines. One is a 23 series with the BS 12.5 hp engine and the other is a 24 series with the BS 11 hp. My problem was with the newer 24, no matter what I adjusted to spec it would not pull any type of incline. After watching what you accomplish by sliding the clutch towards the yoke.....Bingo problem solved. It was between a 1/2 - 3/4 of an inch away from touching in the neutral position. That really solved all my issues at once. Thanks again, now let me get back to sucking up them oak leaves in M.D.

On ALL my Snappers I have REMOVED the "Smooth" clutch assemblies that have the extra parts that wear out and is designed TO slip and replaced with the Old Style NON "Smooth" clutch that gives a better engagement, lasts longer and has LESS parts that wear out that you have to replace.

My Snapper pull cord locked up. I charged the battery and the engine almost started but the battery died. I fully charged the battery, now the engine will not turn over, and I still cannot pull the cord. It seems to be locked up. What is going on?
@chefkdowg
@chefkdowg 4 жыл бұрын
@@jeffreyanderson5737 Need to remove the starter cover, check your electric starter for binding, Clean the clutch under the starter cover on top of the motor above the fly wheel and clean it up, check the spring and pull cord for the starter. Oil everything with deep creep or p.b. blaster. If your electric starter is bound up that would be why your battery keeps dying and hard to pull over.

i am assuming you have to drain all fluids before doing this? i wonder if my clutch disk is going out or if my drivebelt (if it has 1) is going out. it only works now in between gears and with the handle not set in the notches, but while being pushed to the outside/right.

Instead of running the T handle through the hole in the rear, while you have the mower sitting upright on the bumpers ROTATE the engine plate on the motor (key off) to where the set screws are facing uo toward the cutter deck, then you can access both of them better.
@petro062
@petro062 8 жыл бұрын
+Numa Newbern OK Next time I'll try that. I didn't want to use n allen wrench for rear of rounding out the hex. And I got so many different T-handels it made a straight on twist. I have rounded out too many OR split too many allen set screws in my life and didn't want to take any chances. Thanks.

In looking at a Jim Jackson video, that bent brace could be a significant problem for your drive train. You should remove and straighten it. Your outer shell has a slight deformity which may be corrected by the straightened brace but hard to tell.

I started my Snapper 28" Hi-Vac this spring after running fine last fall and it's all screwed up! It goes way too slow (top #5 speed seems more like #2) and the blade sounds like it's wobbling and the whole machine is sort of shaking. It ran fine before and all I did was clean the air filter sponge wrapper and oil linkage points. Any ideas?????
@petro062
@petro062 5 жыл бұрын
It shakes if the blade is out of balance.I broke a piece off one once. I would look under and see if it is shifting all the way to high. There might be s stick jammed in the shift.

I’m not so sure you need to go through the back and adjust the plate. I was told to adjust the tension spring and it would apply more pressure from the rubber clutch disc to the drive wheel…

Loosen the band bolt on the center bar which is beneath the seat. Pull bar back. You might need help there. I used a scisor jack, 'car jack' and block of wood to stretch rear from front until I get correct measurement as the owner's manual dictates. Then tighten band bolt and then remove jack and block.

+fishman1955 I don't know. The old rubber was all chunked out and maybe that got the screws loose. But it still ran but it couldn't go up hills. Only level ground.

+petro062 I took a look at my rubber on the clutch and it has a great big groove cut in it, but it still pulls. Now I know what to look for.
