Good advice. Most important imo is shoot for YOURSELF, not to please others or going for the likes and forget about your own creativity.

if that was the case, he wouldn't have made a youtube channel😅😅

@@mrlau630 I don't understand your comment. He sometimes changes his view toward photography based on his experience whilst shooting. His reasons to change have nothing to do with rates. I know plenty of channels that change the subjects based on the views of prior videos. They are the viewers puppet.

Be a Photographer, not a genre! The only time you shoot for someone else is when they are paying you. I hope you two enjoyed the rest of your trip.

This! I shoot mostly wedding photography as a job. However, I love both portrait and wildlife photography. That’s the photography I do for myself. So many people tell me things like: wow, those are too far apart, you should focus on just one. Why? Genre photography isn’t an issue from a business point of view, but in order to not get tired and bored of our jobs as photographers, we need to shoot for ourselves and from that perspective it doesn’t matter what you shoot, what matters is that you’re in touch with why you love this art

That first thing about emails and passwords is a great idea, the vast majority of hacks and corporate ransomware attacks all start with social engineering, separating the two is just an additional level of security by obscurity 👍👍

Many successful (or not) photographers on instagram or other social media will say the same thing. And it is completely true. What I hate the most in social media is the toxicity of people. Those people who follow for follow, or like for like, or like initially but then stop, or follow initially but then unfollow... people who just try to fish interactions and never give back. I do not consider followers or likes as an indication for my skills in photography, but I consider them as a mean to help me "socialize" with other photographers.

Absolutely agree, I use the media as a tool to network, and get inspired by other styles.

You are just so right. For someone like me who has grown into the Internet this is natural for the most Part. But younger people (or oder) just dont know how to act on the Internet. Thx you are a great guy!

I'll add to this point 17:16 that you also put yourself under pressure to meet or outperform the expectations that the audience have of you, and most of the time, people don't perform well under pressure.

Excellent tips for photographers navigating the complexities of social media! Emphasizing the 'why' behind your social media use can not only clarify your goals but also preserve your passion for your craft amid the noise. 👍

Another great video Roman! As a retired senior, with a successful career behind me, I shoot for fun, & do not post on social media. I'm more of a scroller. I hang out with a very small Fuji group, reply if I know the answer to a question. Also hang out with a group of the crews I worked /flew with since the early 70s. I don't post my photos on FB or anywhere else . If someone I know wants a specific photo of mine , I e mail it to them. Life is great & I'm enjoying it on my terms. Keep the videos coming !

I'm in a similar position and have stopped posting to IG after a technical glitch, while becoming disenchanted with its shallow populism and transient algorithms, along with the introduction of AI. I'm considering restarting but nothing will suppress my sheer love of photography as art. Printing more has become a passion, as nothing beats the joy of reviewing the physical product

Great video Roman, wide ranging, thorough and well explained. While using social media seems the way to go these days, for many photographers, you have to think very seriously about what that really means. I share my photos with a very limited number of people: friends, family, acquaintances and some prospective clients, but only if asked. My public exposure is by word of mouth only. I prefer to shoot what I like, when I like, and have reached the stage where that works just fine for me. I am very, very, lucky. If I'm asked to take on a project I'm not interested in, I say no thank you. I always have a small list of projects I'm working on; not the least of which is improving my skills or trying on something new, of interest to me. I really enjoy your channel and a good part is because I enjoy watching creative and skilled people doing what they love. Cheers to you.

There's 2 types of people, those that can say they are going to do something and do it, and those who don't. I hear it all the time with weight loss new years resolutions etc. IF you're going to share your goals, you better know deep down you're going to do them and have a track record of getting your arse into gear. Actually sharing your big goals can be a MASSIVE help to people. Just needs to be the right people. So be honest with yourself, ask who you are then share them goals away. One of the best ways to get interaction is bringing hype, You can't just post "new book coming next year" then post nothing else, you need to hype that shit up. Your posts are seen once if that... people need to see something like 10x or more now to even acknowledge you. So post your goals if you're determined enough, not only that share your progress to them goals. The journey can be more important than the destination.

Instagrammers are the bain of our existence, drives me crazy when you just want to enjoy a scene and as soon as you lift the camera, there’ll be at least 4 or 5 who immediately take the same shot good or not

As someone who recently started a KZfaq channel dedicated to photography, this was a great video to remind me that progress albeit slow is progress. To add to it, I learned the hard way to not go off topic on KZfaq, lol. Tried a video on how to film yourself video and it was all but ignored while the review vids are in the 5 to 10k range. Still it's progress and I love it.

Yes I just watched a TED talk by the CEO of patreon. He talks about exactly what you're talking about here You're on the pulse man. Great content appreciate it and the email thing absolutely The only thing is curate the image you use as your profile image if it's you your face with AI now you can easily be found everywhere they can just search on your face with Google AI and everything about that face will be found just FYI Thanks again keep up with the great work I hope to be getting my camera kit my new Fuji XHS2 and an osmo 3 plus a drone I think I want to get a drone Have you used drones anyway just rambling now Mount Fuji looked amazing. I hope I can make it to Japan at some point in my life. Thanks again

I feel you about the spots in Fujiyoshida, but it must be said, those spots are crowded for a reason - the spots are photogenic as hell. Even the street shot you took further down the street just isn't the same quality of framing. That said, it'll always be worth walking down the street to check.
