It's been over a year since I started using the new f1.4 primes. In this video I talk about how they have held up and if they are still worth it.

cheers Roman! just received my 18 this weekend and I'm excited to use it!! i have had the 33 for over a year now and it is easily my favorite lens. I've paired them up with my 50-140 and honestly there isn't anything i cant shoot with this set up.

Thanks for the video. I like it. I was so ready for the 18mm f1.4, but size and price made me reconsider. Maybe one day.

I bought the 18mm f/1.4 recently and absolutely love it. It’s super sharp and I appreciate the WR since I like to shoot outside in the winter a lot. Love how it handles on my X-T3 body too.

Nice review. I have owned both the 18mm and 33mm lenses and they are fantastic. In the end I decided to sell both and purchase the new 23mm f/1.4 LM WR as I find I can compose similarly styled images by "zooming with my feet". With an X-T5 I can also comfortably crop into the super sharp 23mm images to get an effective 50mm FOV equivalent while retaining decent quality. I used the remaining money to purchase the XF 35mm f/1.4 and Viltrox 13mm f/1.4 to complement the 23mm. The 13mm lens is great for wide landscape/architectural shots and tight indoor spaces. The 35mm f/1.4 is simply unbeatable for its size and weight considering how fast it is. On the X-T5 the AF works great (just a touch slower than the new LM lenses in my experience, but definitely noisier), and I was pleasantly surprised by its performance on the new 40MP sensor (even wide open, the center sharpness is great).

I use the 18m f1.4 and I think it is the best lens I´ve ever used! I switched from Sony FF (with primes and zooms), before that I was a Micro Four-Thirds user (the 75mm f1.8 Zuiko was fantastic!) but the wow-factor of the 18mm is still there and one reason why I am very happy with Fujifilm as a system. With it comes the original 35mm f1.4 which has so much character and is so tiny - I don't think I will replace it with the 33mm any time soon.

Hi Roman! Thanks for this simple but thorough overview of these 2 lenses. Very, very helpful! I love Fuji lenses, but my one complaint on most is, as you noticed, the inconsistency of stiffness of aperture ring on different lenses is very frustrating. Some are just right, but most are way to loose and easy to move unintentionally.

Funny that you mentioned about the sound the 18mm 1.4 makes. I had this lens for a little over a month and I didn't noticed it at first, and then suddenly I hear it, and thought that maybe something broke in it, but I checked it, and still was getting super sharp images, auto focus was the same, etc. So good to hear it's not my lens, cause I grabbed it from the used market, and it had past already over a month by the time I realized about that sound it makes. Great info and video as always!

Great review and breakdown. I have a 33mm on the way from MPB (along with a 70-300) and really looking forward to using it. My thought process was similar to what you laid out, in that I have the 23mm F2 if I want to keep things light during the day, but wanted something a little faster for night/evening shooting.

I love my X-pro2 and x-t2. Use them with the fujicrons. The point for me to shoot Fuji is for the size and IQ for the size of the sensor and overall kit. Honestly, if I need a 1.4 lens, I’d rather shoot with a full frame Sony or Canon with all the advantages that come with that. The XH series with the 18,23,33 1.4 primes is a similar size to the A7iv with the comparable 1.4 primes. I’m glad Fuji has options for all of its users now though. The prime lens lineup was in need of an upgrade. I just wish they kept them smaller for those of us who don’t want larger lenses on an APSC kit.

I have both now. I had an accident with my old 35mm f1.4 and I couldn’t revive it, so upgraded to the 33mm and I absolutely love it. It’s so much quieter than the old 35mm!

I bought the 18mm 1.4 and absolutely love it. Such a fantastic lens! You can shoot wide open without risking any sharpness.

I've had my 33mm for around a year now, too, and love it. I probably won't get the 18mm, as I don't often find myself wanting to shoot that wide -- but if I did, I'd certainly give it a look.

These lens lineup is so good, so I even assigned a digital teleconverter hotkey to my x-t5 body because with 40MP image that sharp you can easily do such heavy crops
