When I was in high school and for years after, I would get together with friends in the evenings and play cards, drink beer, maybe smoke something, and listen to music. Everybody brought over recordings they wanted the others to hear. Some of us had no connection to music other than listening and appreciating it, some of us played (badly) in bands. For some of us, music was political, for some it was religious, for some it was part of the mating ritual. Sometimes everybody else hated something I loved, but I still loved it and listened to it in the car by myself (even if the boors I called my friends couldn't appreciate it). Sometimes I would find out I liked something I thought I hated. I went to the same college as the guys that started Snarky Puppy (a long time before them); it's a pretty good music school, pretty competitive, and I had a lot of friends in the music department there. The listening parties changed, we'd be listening to some pretty esoteric stuff, but I still had my high school buddies so sometimes it was the Buzzcocks. But here's the thing - I like it all. There is music for the clubs or the mosh pit, there is music for closing your eyes and immersing yourself. There's music for disco dancing, or polka dancing, or marching. There's music to fire you up or to meditate on your unlikely existence on this weird rock. One of the things that continues to fascinate me about music is how making invisible pressure waves in the air can literally change your mind. But not everyone likes everything, and that's the way the world is. They continue to think I have no standards. This opinion is for entertainment purposes only.

Yeah this is a fantastic track, isn't it? I love the sheer joy emanating from all of them... and from you, watching it! My first video of yours, and I like how genuine you are, even though it seems to scare you a little. Respect. Sad detail... the older black guy dancing at the end in the "1" shirt... he died later that week in a car accident. D:

miff here: all my comments are being deleted by KZfaq automatically today. I wrote: I think it's the personal touch you give that makes your reactions my favorite. I know in this case that person is me, so it's kinda obvious, but even when it's someone else that connection makes the joint listen special. Of course, I still need to be enjoying the music, and I'm still struggling with the rap but my musical "overton window" is certainly being expanded by you and other reactors (slowly) with Polyphia, Nightwish and Angelina Jordon becoming favorites, though I'm not quite at Dimash yet! This is the first time I made notes while watching a reaction so the following is kinda chronological: Musical therapy. Yeah, spot on. I think I said nourishment but that leads to the therapy, or is the therapy. Listening with you and others has certainly helped me with an emotional rollercoaster in the last year, that I've not had to deal with for maybe 20 years prior, though I think it increased my insomnia! This one was written by the guitarist Mark Lettieri (is playing the pale blue guitar...has the solo in the extended bit). I find it interesting that this song is one of the most listenable due to it not screwing around with time signatures or being very unfamiliar rhythms within a standard 4/4 (2nd half of Lingus for example), it certainly is playing with instrumentation and voicings, but retains just utter funk rhythm the whole way though. Sitting in the front row: yeah, was a bit Rainman on the front row, i'd be uncomfortable too. I had the same reaction as you, was kinda jarring. But the thing to remember is this was a recording session, not a live gig. Same with Shofukan. I wonder what the instructions are to the audience to not impact the recording but clapping along, dancing too much etc? My other thought was "it gets worse" lol. I really want you to hear (react to) Sleeper, but the 2013 version is from the same recording session as Shofukan so if you're gonna put it on the list, I'm wondering if a live version is better to give you the "pit" feel. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/adSRqNKYsdzDd40.html (2019, Live in Nottingham, UK. Recorded from the front row, but good audio, but is a long one at 14 mins so maybe not suitable for a reaction vid.) or the first performance is kzfaq.info/get/bejne/oaqIobOXpsWZoI0.html (2013, We like it here session, 7 mins) Again intersting who wrote this. Maz Maher the trumpet player wrote this piece for keyboard and hosepipe! 🙂 No don't shut up, your reactions are why we are here. We're expanding each others musical overton window and that can't happen without discussion on what we like and don't like, what things remind us of other things etc. I know there's imbalance here, we get to understand a lot about you, and you only a bit about us but that can't really be helped, so that's what we're doing. Reactor curating comments like a club owner curating clientele: if the comments are not constructive then I agree. Constructive disagreement should be left though. I've spent the day watching my comments disappear after 5 seconds on a myriad of videos, mostly political stuff, because I'm opposing the narrative. KZfaq automatic stuff of course. Can't have people with different ideas on how to make the world better talk about music on a music channel eh. If we ban them for a day or two (not stop them writing, just delete everything afterwards) they'll realise that their ideas are bad and top-down authoritarian control of speech is the way to go...... ...or something. anyway, Thanks Rollen. Truly.

Is this the miff😏, the real miff🧐?😏😆, Did you change your whole moniker? Cause of the deleted stuff? Trying a new face the algorithm won't notice😉? Wanna play 20 questions 🤣! Jk, if it's who I think it is, glad to see you again! Hope all is well! And much respect regardless of if I'm right. Excellent comment! I absolutely agree, and appreciate the info as well! Thanks for chiming in on this one for sure! I second it❤️‍🔥😉👍🚌💨💨💨💨💨

This was so good - sorry it took so long to get to. I hope I didn't fish too much out of the comments, but I do have a good idea how to keep my balance and YES, I can tell talking about "real" life will slow down my roll like crazy - it will be a balance and I will stay the same - I'm not sure I know how to be anything be myself as much as I want some overnight change - We will grow and build and speak our minds. I like that idea.

And the new song "Bet" just dropped...and...man oh man! Basically, for that one, it's... Us: "Hey Michael League....can Snarky Puppy do Brazilian?" Snarky Puppy: "Hold our beers."

Let me direct you to the artist who first allowed me to discover Snarky Puppy: Jacob Collier. If further therapy is needed, try “Bridge Over Triubled Water”, (feat. Yebba, John Legend, Tori Kelly) off his most recent album or perhaps “Moon River” off the previous album (multiple luminaries during the intro… see how many you recognize).
