My first fighting rifle was an AK i bought back about 8 years ago when i was 20 and while ive learned alot and dont consider myself new to the platform especially after owning so many since then, i love watching beginner guides and seeing how these videos get better and easier to understand ober the years for said beginners. Great video. Alot of common sense answers but definitely worth its weight in gold. I would say for a video about advanced iron sight shooting, it would be worth it to talk about resting the entire front sight on top of the rear for very close ranges. I think that would have a practical use for guys in iron sight division in competitions. My 10/63 has romy G furniture with a Chinese grater and a combloc PK-A sight on it(sling and light too of course) and while it a vibe(bit heavy of a vibe lol), there is just something so beautiful about just a standard AK that makes me wanna take all of it off and run it slick again.

I think this is a must needed video for a lot of the newer guys out there. I learned alone, on my own and man has it been a rough road! Looking back on it and watching this video, I would have progressed so much faster for sure! The sight block got me... I also had an over gassed rifle sent to me, and man I pissed off some elder gentlemen my first day out. I dumped an entire magazine about 20 feet down the range table just pelting them all with steel cases... I highly suggest the hockey net style brass catcher out there to the new guys! Whether you make one or buy one, keep a spare on hand! Thankfully though, they were cool and after I had shot the magazine, they grabbed my shoulder and presented me with one. Phew, what an embarrassing encounter! Don't be that guy! Soon after I learned about gas adjustment, which became my first modification. Great lesson learned!

Nice introduction video covering the basics of AK ownership and earned my subscription. I bought my AK about 7 years ago when it was hard to find decent ones in stock. There was a local company manufacturing them at the time who sold through a well known on-line AK distributor but it seemed they were always out of stock. I resorted to looking up their address and actually visiting the factory. They had a small business office in front with some rifles on display. The chief production engineer came out and greeted me. After telling him of my interest in purchasing a rifle, he went back and selected one out of production and sold it to me. The owner came out and introduced herself and explained the lifetime warranty. This rifle was spot on out of production and all I've added is a sling, red dot and more mags. It may have been my best gun purchasing experience so far and the AK is very fun to shoot and one of my favorite rifles.

On the ammo thing, the reason many indoor ranges dont allow steel case is because they dont allow steel CORE, which is legally classified as a type of AP round under federal law, and due indoor ranges often being filled with fudds that are only familiar with AR's and brass ammo, steel CASE and steel CORE get combined into the same thing. Now the reason the rounds may stick to a magnet is because the copper jackets are not pure copper and contain ferrous metals, but unfortunately this often doesnt matter to the range staff; they just assume that it if it sticks then it's steel core, and they wont let you shoot it, no exceptions. Ive's found if you complain about this or otherwise mention it to others, you'll usually just be mocked and told this is why you should avoid indoor ranges like the plague. From what I understand, there does exist newer steel case stuff that is marketed as being "non-magnetic" specifically for these fudd indoor ranges, but it tends to be harder to find and thus more expensive, to the point it may make sense to just get brass rounds instead. I had some experience with this shooting steel case tula rounds, had been using it for months without issue at my local indoor range (which was also the FFL that transferred my AK for me), till one day this prick RSO decided to make an issue of it, asking multiple times if my ammo was steel CORE based almost entirely on the fact the rounds sometimes sparked as they hit the backstop, while ignoreing the guy next to me shooting .308 out of a bolt action that was also sparking. Eventually he asked to see one of the rounds and did the magnet test, and when it stuck he said "sorry, cant shoot that here". I knew he was full of shit because the boxes the rounds came in made zero mention of steel CORE, and I had heard about the magnet thing being nothing more than fuddlore, but I didnt think it was worth getting into a verbal arguement and risking being banned from the premises over, so I just left, though I did make it clear that I disagreed with him. A few minutes later, as I was washing up and walking out another RSO walked over and told me he was told to tell me I wasnt allowed to bring any more "steel ammo", and I told him pretty much the same thing as the other prick, but he was like "Idk bud, dont shoot the messenger". I didnt go back there for quite a while as I was pissed and was seriously considering just going to a different range exclusively, but I ended up finding a good deal on a crate of surplus brass yugoslav M67 rounds, and have been using those at that range ever since; to this day nobody has said anything about it. unfortunately these brass rounds also have corrosive primers, so I need to make sure I clean the gun thoroughly soon after I get home, as if I wait even a day or two the bolt face and parts of the reciever will be full of rust. I use Ballistol to clean my AK with, as it nuetralizes the corrosive salts while acting as an all-in-one cleaner and lubricant.
@AtrociousAK47
@AtrociousAK47 6 ай бұрын
Also I've read that another reason many indoor ranges wont allow steel case is because they collect the spent casings to sell back to the ammo suppliers or reload themselves to sell back to you as their overpriced range ammo (ya know, the stuff they be asking $30-40 a box for), and they cant be assed seperating the non-brass stuff out of it. steel cased ammo is considered to be non-reloadable, or atleast not really worth doing, since it requires special tooling to do so and you can really only do it like once or maybe twice before it becomes unsafe to reuse. It's also possible that they just dont wanna deal with the 7.62x39 stuff specifically since typically those rounds are made with a different style of primer that's more common in europe called "Berdan", which is different than the "Boxer" style typically used in 5.56 NATO/.223 and many other kinds of ammo more common to the US, in that there are two flash holes in the base of the cartridge and the anvil that detonates the primer is built into the case itself. This is unlike the Boxer primed stuff, which has only one flash hole and the anvil is external, being built into the primer cap itself. Also Berdan primers are available in a wider variety of sizes with little standardization, making it more difficult to find the correct one, unlike Boxer primers which use just four standard sizes. Basically, all this means is that the Berdan stuff is considered harder to reload for than the Boxer stuff, so many places may opt to avoid dealing with the Berdan stuff as much as possible, and through any method they can. Also, steel case not reusable, brass case reusable.

Another bit of advice to new AK users, its going to be heavier than an AR15. Keep it simple and dont add a bunch of tacticool things to make it heavier. A good Mlok bottom rail, light, and vertical forgrip is really all you need. Adding all these other attachments because someone on youtube told you to will make it so heavy that you won't want to train with it or carry it to the range.

That rifle you had at the beginning of the video looked so sweet . I like some aftermarket stuff but the original look of AKs is so beautiful. It looked glossed but that is how i like them .

All the mags that I bought after owning the gun came crazy tight and did a day of filing to get them to fit properly, but ain’t no slop whatsoever.

Hey bro KLAYCO47 !! There is 1 thing missing in your AK selector Switch lever , its the third notch that 3rd selector hash mark on it that put the rifle in safe position. It retains the selector switch retained to the receiver of the gun . So the selector doesn't disengage when you slide it all the way up when the top cover is removed.... Edit : the select lever doesn't overrides when that *safe position* is made engraved on place where it suppose to engage safety. You can see that on Soviet AKs , Romanians , hungarian and some more ...

Also AK magazines can be a problem too. TAPCO was notorious for not able to lock into the AK or the last two rounds would not load in properly. Steel and polymer magazines from Russia or Bulgaria are the best magazines to use.

I’ve seen a pattern with most AK guys. 1st AK has to have Russian “red “ furniture and classic look AK. Then search for Bakelite mags. Then will go through turning it into the AR as much as possible 😂

I have issues with the battlefield setting Wich is 300 meters/yards. This only works if you have a full target. Once firing starts, men aren't going to still stand around and present an ideal target. Men will dive for the ground to make a much smaller target,or cover behind something. Now your target is only inches. AK's can be reasonable with accuracy but not tack drivers. Now try to hit a small target at 100 yards with a battlefield setting of 300. It makes things more challenging in my opinion.

good information, I have owned AKs forever but I never heard of that 25 yard zero before...👍...my #1 upgrade is to change the rear sight notch for a peep....followed by a pin and ball front post sight

AK that I've seen in the hands of security forces like police or border guards in eastern Europe / Turkey are carried with the safety off (on semi). I'm guessing it's so they can quickly rack the action to chamber a round and shoot.

First time ak owner and fire arm owner I'd love to know the preventative maintenance and how to clean it then oil/grease it. I don't really know how thoroughly to clean it, how frequently, where to clean it, and where to lube it. Especially to prevent corrosion + what products to use.

AK always has been and always will be , my favorite Firearms of all time, ofc imports , former Combloc or combloc , CHF Chrome lined barrels , forged components. OH YES! Sweet sweet smell of cosmoline. I am rooting for US AKs to be good , I hope one day they are but still I’m avoiding them like the plague lol past experiences still HAUNT Me to this day was first lesson i learned unfortunately was , go import, specially if you shoot your gun a lot lol hopefully times changing but imma still Stick to what I know while the imports are still available. Much love AK bros!!
