SE5 Review is on the way! Hoping for sometime next week, working hard to make it the best it can be :)

Starting this comment before finishing the video and continuing writing as I progress. First off, just want to say that I have loved all of your Sniper Elite retrospective videos so far. I've been making my way through the games, and just recently put the finishing touches on my Sniper Elite 4 playthrough. Second, wanted to comment about a "true jedi" run. Genuinely one of the most fun and engaging experiences I've had playing a game in a very long time. I usually try to 100% games anyway, but I wasn't sure about it with Sniper Elite at first. But then, after finishing the campaign and DLC, something got into me and I decided that I would sit down, go through every level, collect every collectible, complete every challenge, and complete any Steam achievements related to the campaign and DLC missions. I can say, that without a shadow of a doubt, it was worth it. The fun I had was beyond what I was expecting. I always knew that the levels were very open ended, and I'm very much the type of player that enjoys taking the time to map out a level, figure out where things are, points of interest, and the such as. It really shows how much time and effort Rebellion put into this game and how replayable the levels are. It had never been so clear to me that they designed the game with these challenges in mind, and you're kind of SUPPOSED to replay the levels and complete the challenges, or at least it significantly increased the enjoyability for me. It forced me to play in ways that I was NOT comfortable, and by doing so, made it feel that much more rewarding when I completed the challenge or achievement. I also wanted to comment about what you said about playing this in the dark or in winter. That's actually exactly what I did, and I find myself having very specific memories of playing Sniper Elite 4, in my basement room with all the lights off, it was cold and I had a small space heater on just to keep the room warm enough to tolerate. It may not be ideal, but I know exactly what you meant by suggesting you play the game in that setting. In conclusion, I agree with you comments about this game just making the franchise that much better. I started playing 4 immediately after playing through 3, and it was a little jarring at first to get used to, but I did the same thing from 2 to 3, so I figured there would be hurdles to jump over. As I played more and more, I began to also realize how much the system had improved. The weapons, the enemies and their AI, the world I was in, the objectives, the storytelling, and most importantly the fun I was having. Having not played 5 yet, 4 is definitely my favorite game in the franchise so far and one of my favorite games I have ever played. I'm looking forward to playing through Sniper Elite 5 and watching your videos on that game. Also, Karl is so fucking cool

Honestly it kinda amazes me how good this game is compared to it's successor. Like 5 isn't bad but when compared to 4 it seems like the developers threw out everything that worked and people liked. 💀 4 is pretty much the definitive third person sniper game.

As far as locations go, if you're curious about their real life equivalents: San Celini's background coast is pretty similar to Amalfi coast; Bitanti village is based on Porto Venere in Liguria (it's even stated in a concept art) and Abrunza Monastery is, most obviously, based on Montecassino. Also, while the Regilino viaduct could be anywhere on the Appennines, there were two K5 railguns (one of them being the famous Anzio Annie) that famously kept bombing Anzio.

Gotta say, great series on these games. Under appreciated series. You do great reviews. No cringy avatar moving around, no annoying cuts every 10 seconds. Plus your voice isn't irritating like most of the other big reviewers on here. Keep it up 👍

I played Sniper Elite 4 for the first time in Authentic Mode (never played a SE game before) and each mission took me 3 hours. Love it.

Still the best game in the Sniper Elite franchise!

Playing through Sniper Elite 5 at the moment. I still think there are two things Rebellion needs to improve on: 1) The tall foliage doesn’t move out of the way, or get crushed when you move through them. 2) Train cars with thin metal frames still don’t allow you to tag or shoot enemies on the other side of them.

Your best one so far, the wait was worth it, its the most complete review of sniper elite 4 that i ever seen!

Just starting mastery skill on the Ross, turned on the X-Ray cam to check whether popping both nuts counts as a double testicle shot. Guess I'm just going to have to shoot a lot of ball-bags just to be sure. Some of the skill requirements are kind of silly, like ricochet shots. Who kills the enemy by shooting at their feet? I finally found a spot where I can catch them at the top of a ladder, and just kept reloading my save to finish this one with the Thompson.

I think the best way to play these games are on the all the hardest settings, and with no HUD at all. (I like wind and bullet drop off to offset the difficulty a bit) It definitely puts you in that 'flow state'

Hey i just found the sniper elite series on huge sale on steam this week, ended up binge watching your retrospective series, do you recommend playing the games in order of release? Amazing work!

So, I feel like I should add couple of things, having gotten most of the achievements (I'm only missing 2 multiplayer related ones). First and foremost - authenthic plus difficulty. It is quite unforgiving, but it also reveals some... Issues with the AI. When they're in search mode, they'll go in places in squads, but that can prove to be exploitative. Case and point, while in Regilino, I was sitting in the bushes, and whilst enemies were searching, I could just constantly bait them away from my position, to the point where I was laughing hysterically at them just idiotically following rock after rock. Imagine if after few throws, instead of following rocks, they'd be trying to find where the rocks were coming from. On subject of enemies, their prioritization is far more important, with Snipers being your highest priority as to elimination. They will kill you in 2 hits, and taking them from the distance is a bit harder due to removal of the help reticle (though you can still nail the shots if you're good enough), and suppressed ammo still alerting the enemies as to your location. That being said, flanking them is the best bet... Up until you reach Magazzeno, where 3 of them are overwatching a Kessler, and having to deal with them is absolute nightmare. I wouldn't be surprised if that section alone was the where most runs ended. I really like what they did with Fuhrer DLC in this game. In previous games, there was only really one way to kill him, meanwhile in this, you're allowed far more flexibility as to how you kill him. Aside from sniping, you can get to him up close and personal, drop something heavy on him, kill him with the very pistol Richter wanted to give him as a gift, or my personal favourite - leave a wired bomb in the soup. It really got close to Hitman levels of assassination targets. Also, I found it neat that Karl wasn't sent there to kill him specifically, but Admiral Richter, and changed his priority only after learning that Richter died at the hands of Adolf.

Did you mention ranging your scope? Biggest gameplay change by far - and biggest improvement - in SE4...

Sniper Elite 4 multiplayer is the best in the series.

This is actually my least favourite SE game, but I really love it. The others are just slightly more enjoyable to me. The DLCs missions however are probably some of the best SE missions ever. I guess that's my issue with this game. The DLCs missions are better than the main game. Also I miss the weapon customizing. Accurate or not, it's COOL DAGNABBIT! If I had to rate the games I've played, best to "worst", it'd be 3,5,2 and 4. I love these games overall though. As a friend of mine said, "WWII has NEVER been this awesome!" Terrible thing to say, but I can't argue with him.

Objectively Sniper Elite 5 is mostly better in most ways, but somehow also doesn’t live up to Sniper Elite 4 for me. I think it really needs smarter, more dangerous AI via the Authentic Plus mode, and that’s something Rebellion could and should add, but probably won’t, let’s face it. Sniper Elite 5 is overall the best game in the series, but lacks the magic of its predecessor in some small ways.

Sniper Elite 4 is great

SE5 has clunky movements, maps are more linear, no sense of freedom, graphics are downgraded cause of crossplay - apart from ambient oclusion. I loveed SE4, but SE5 is kinda boring to me...
