In my opinion "Robot Getaway" is the heart and soul of DRG OST, it's just so energetic and calm at the moments, it makes you feel like a true space dwarf :D And oh I wish there was a VR version of the game, the immersion with a proper soundtrack would be amazing... But anyway, almost every track in the game is great, it fits the mood and builds the atmosphere perfectly.

"Dance of the Dreadnought" surprised me when I first heard it play. It was a change of pace compared to the other tracks and felt like something epic was gonna go down. My all-time favorite would still be "Leave No Dwarf Behind" because it really feels epic as it builds up and reaches the crescendo of the track and fits the extraction phase of a mission.

My favorite song has to be "Echoes from the Past", in Volume 2. To explain why it's my favorite I need to go in a bit of background. I love dwarves, a LOT. In every fantasy setting ever devised I will instantly align myself towards the direction of the dwarves or the race most inspired by dwarves. This track, in my opinion, perfectly encapsulates my love of the long-bearded short-men that dig dirt and rock stone. What sounds like a low-humming choir in the background with what I could only describe as the sprawling vastness of an underground stone-carved fortress backing it up perfectly summarizes my love for all things Dwarven. That ability to perfectly capture a theme and then gently shift it to perfectly mesh with the synthy vibes of the rest of the game is nothing short of miraculous and amazing. I could listen to this track all day, and night!

Thank you for making this, it was a great 13 minutes of my day. For me, Deep Rock Galactic wouldn't be quite the same without Robot Getaway, it's iconic at this point and such a gem, as are all the tracks in their own ways. I feel props are in order for Mikkel, for the trust in young talent and brilliant direction, as well as to Troels, the sound designer who also helped with the music, and put it in the game in a such a seamless way it is quite remarkable.

"There are things in Deep Rock that I'd say don't get enough praise and one of those things just so happens to be the music." Dude. The music in DRG is easily one of the best things in it. I can't even imagine being without it and I often find myself sitting listening to it even when I'm not playing. When it comes to favorite songs, though, I think mine has to be track 16 from volume one; Leave No Dwarf Behind. I couldn't possibly tell you how many times I've had that play while running for my life towards the drop pod, hounded by all the glyphids ever. I like to play Gunner a lot and when the song hits 1.36 minutes in is the theme song for when I'm standing on the ramp to the pod, pouring fire into the horde while waiting for Molly to get in place.

What I love about the soundtrack is that I don’t notice it all the time. And that’s not a bad thing. The reason I don’t notice it is because it just fits the mindset I’m in while I’m playing so perfectly, it just feels like any other part of the game. And the times when it does stick out are when it should, with the swarms and escapes.

I absolutely love the entirety of DRG soundtrack, and "Into the Abyss" to me is like the theme song of the game and indifference of DRG to their workers. I used to take a deep liking in "Fathomless Tomb" due to how isolated it makes you feel (especially in solo missions), I've switched to the "Absolute zero" side however. It just sounds so... Out of place when put in comparison to other ambient musical tracks. It's so incredibly melancholic in a way, but hopeful at the same time. Speaking of extraction music, "Follow Molly" has to be that something i eagerly await at the refuelling stage on Salvage operations. This is the moment where it really shines, especially when put in the context of last stage in Elite Deep Dives.

I used to have robot getaway as my favorite, but after listening to the soundtrack many times I grew to have Leave No Dwarf Behind be my favorite. It became that just because of the one part that of the song that it builds up. This is timed so well most of the time with the time that you get to the drop pod with your team. This is also where you realize there is only 3 of you and you go back for the last dwarf, hence the name. It just makes going back and even being saved sound so heroic in a way and improves the experience by a lot for me.

In the Belly of the Beast and RUN (I love the Prodigy) always get my blood pumping. When I first heard Dance of the Dreadnought I didn't think it would fit with the rest of the soundtrack, but it's pretty killer in game. The only one I don't really like is Axes Out. It feels like a weird carnival ride track. It doesn't ruin the experience, but if I could disable one track out of both volumes that would be it. Over 400 hours in the game, and I still love the music. Great content so far! Just discovered your channel, and sat here watching all your DRG stuff in one go. Interstellar nightmares is one of my favourites from volume 2, its a synth wave organ that blares out when you hatch the dreadnoughts from their eggs. So the loud siren like organ sounds fit perfectly while me and my team were getting chased around a cave

I personally think "the last ascend" is the best extraction song. It's just this giant build up and drops with a whole orchestra cheering you on while you tear your way though hoards of enemies. It has something insanely empowering to it. It's best when your team just called in the pod and want to leave but suddenly there are dozens of spiders blocking your way and as you start the battle the orchestra kicks in.

Great analysis! DRG's soundtrack is not just some of my favorite video game music, but is some of my favorite music in general. I've got a playlist of all the ambient tracks that I listen to all the time while working on other stuff. I've been hunting for more music like it, but not much lives up to the standard GSG set. I'm not sure if I can pick a favorite, but I will at least shout out Echoes From The Past for being extraordinarily dwarfy.

"Deceived by Light" and "Into the Abyss" are my favorite tracks hands-down, followed closely by "Echoes of the Past" and "Absolute Zero". I love atmospheric tracks that really bring to mind the loneliness of Hoxxes during those rare quiet moments of exploration when the Dwarves are largely left alone by the swarms. The tracks played during swarms and escapes are still great background music for their respective roles, but as a horror buff who grew up with the Thing and Alien (and later Event Horizon) being counted among my favorite Sci-if horror films, I LOVE exploration of the unknown and the idea that the protagonists are truly alone out there. Even with support from DRG Mission Control, there are hundreds - thousands - of feet of solid rock/sand/ice/earth between them and the Mining Team. Also, it almost adds to just how deep and expansive Hoxxes feels when the first hostile warning you get during the lonely peace of one of the above songs is the echoing screech of a distant yet fast-approaching Mactera Grabber... or the soul-sinking quivering growl of a Detonator. :)

Fun video on an underappreciated part of games. Echoes From The Past is my favourite as it accentuates the grand scale of those truly huge caverns you find sometimes.

My favorite's gotta be "The Last Ascent". There's just something about the tone that's bleak, yet hopeful, desperate but courageous. I just love it.

The music makes even the most dull things to do feel so cinematic. In salvage missions when the drop pod is charging up and getting ready to take you out straight up feels like the ending to a movie. The game wouldnt be the same without it

I am legit watching one of your DRG videos each night just to get the dopamine hit of "Robot Getaway" in the outro And for the great video quality ofc, but I'm rationing instead of binging

Apart from RUN being my favourite track, the entirety of DRG's soundscape from Sountrack to steps, clinking Flares and bug screams echoing in the distance just makes it. Some people consider sound design an afterthought. But every single one of my favourite games uses sound to turn it from a good to a godly game. Don't sleep on proper sound design.

When I did my first hazard 5 game with my friends i turned my game volume up more so I can hear the sound cues of enemies. What I didn't expect was "Run!" To blast in my ears alongside the glyphid swarm noises. Full communication. Best teamwork yet. We Barely said a word but we were all working together to the intense synth beats like a well oiled machine. And I honestly don't think we would've beaten that mission if it weren't for that intense music accompaniment. One of my most memorable gaming moments ever! Rock and stone!

This is great. Thank you for this video telling about the background of the music in DRG! The music is a huge part of this game that makes it what it is, but you're right that probably not many people pay much mind to the music itself while playing the game. So thank you for showcasing some of the really awesome tracks by themselves. Its unique to hear them while not playing the game and its really cool. Rock and Stone Brotha

Music and sound can make a game. It's so important. DRG is amazing in that until this video, I never realized there was so much music. It's all very iconic, and hearing the bits you played, I immediately recognized them, just never thought much about the sheer quantity of songs.

The latter half of "the last ascent" is one of the most inspirational tracks in the ost for me, hearing that play while running for extract from a swarm is one of the best experieces I can have in this game.

That's CRAZY, I had no idea about this whole story about the music in DRG- but I was in the space rig one day or in a match and I'm like "I swear this sounds a lot like the music in John Carpenter's The Thing" and then I continued to pay greater attention to the music and sound and I was like "Naaaah, it couldn't be" But now cause of this video I'm so glad I realized it was actually a direct point of inspiration. I love that. The Thing is a fantastic film and the score behind it really had an eerie feel to that movie which added a slow burn tension to it that really fit the central concepts and atmosphere of isolation and mistrust. That same sense of isolation translates REALLY well into DRG.

As a music composition major, I have focused a ton of music in games. The music in DRG is incredible. I could talk about a ton of stuff but that would take forever to type 😂 I really like the way Run is made. There is such an intense urgency to it! Thanks for the video!
