He's a buisnessman. I guess he can be a nice person, but sometimes he's just has to be an asshole, because he's working for a bilion dollar company. Sometimes he'll cut a sketch, sometimes he'll dismiss someone's idea and sometimes he'll just tell someone that he screwed up. There's a reason why Lorne has been in charge longer than most of ths cast is alive.

@@sailormagic13 Well John says his self that he's a writer at heart not a performer and I think thats true. I mean stand up is a performance and he has great stage presence but he's not the best at playing a wide range of different characters (he's improved but at the time probably way too limited) Picking him for a writer made perfect sense. Nick Kroll is a good actor and he can do a million different characters, so i agree them not picking him for a cast member is odd but alot of things factor into who they pick I guess.

Assuming you have not yet seen this, I'm gonna link here (and also put the link randomly on a comment section for others who ''seek'' to overcome depression by watching SNL sketches) the documentary about the SNL creating process, that can be entertaining and informative as well, made by James Franco. Honestly, I did not even knew such thing exist, but the insight into the whole process from the time when Seth was a head writer and Higgins was a producer and Hader / Mulaney's chemistry is clearly palpable even before John came up with Stefon e c.t. has made me (for an hour and a half) not to think about the global pandemic and the 2020 daily playlist. If you've already seen it, than I apologize for linking it under your comment from 7 months ago, but if you didn't... I hope it can take your mind off for a while. I hope you are safe and soon to enjoy the behind story telling video of the team back then. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/e9tjf9yqzM-3eoE.html

TBH I think the reason "Mulaney" failed as a show is because it was some of his stand up made into a tv show. So me having watched his stand up and then watching the first episode im like oh I know that joke...and that one...and that one, which turned out to be the whole show. Regardless of that John Mulaney is awesome and I will always be a huge fan. Hope I get to meet him someday.

I know it's unfair to comedians to expect them to never reuse material, particularly when it's good, but it does get tiresome when you already know the punchline and for some reason it's different than just rewatching a joke being told when it's in a different setting. Kid Gorgeous was a bit disappointing for me because I'd watched Hilarity for Charity specifically for John, so when KG was released and I realized I'd already heard some of its best jokes, it was just a slight bummer.

Agree 100%; this compounded with the fact that laugh-track sitcoms have been wanting in popularity in general, the show never had a chance. I'd pay good money for a serialized Sack Lunch Bunch tho

He would do much better in a talk show or variety show style forum. His sit com was just too formulaic.

I have a friend named Kennedy Prasser but my nickname for him is John because though blonder, he reminds me a lot of this guy. We work together but not in the same area and I called him John again in the warehouse and he said, "Mulaney right?" This was after months of me randomly calling him John with no explanation. I said, "Yeah, of course." Then he said, "Ok."

8:33 The reason Hader laughs is because apparently all through rehearsal and dress, Mulaney had been downplaying "Shy" as quiet and low-key, then when he came out for air, he strong-played the "Hello Gentlemen, how are you?" and immediately had Hader laughing...

Everything he does is great but what he did for Stefon & Seth's wedding was phenomenal 👏👏👏 I still cry watching that wedding. At first I thought I was crying because it was Bill's last show, but then I realized, I cry because that wedding was too perfect and Stefon deserved it. John is so thorough in his work. I just adore him 💖💖💖
