Snorkeling Tsawwassen! (Under The Ferries) #vancouver #britishcolumbia
You wouldn't think life could prosper in a shallow mudflat off the BC ferries but when there's a will there's a way. Years ago during the pandemic lock downs I decided to go check out what was living in the ferry breakwater. I was quickly amazed!
This is a short compilation of some of the marine life I filmed while snorkeling and freediving around Tsawwassen, BC.

Haha she told me about that! I was curious who that would have been. Jasmine finally got her license so that's one of the first trips she's done solo. I'm building a retaining wall in my backyard so I've been working non-stop on that lately. Unfortunately I'm working full-time on the mainland again so the weekends don't give me much time.

Seeing those beautiful sensitive fish, starving in their own filth, in grocery store "live" tanks. Really gets me. Thank you for showing us, this lovely place.

Yeah I agree. Not to mention the process of what catching them did to their environment. Bottom trawling in an abomination. Both should be illegal. Happy you liked the video, no problem at all.

I wonder if all the rocks dumped there to create the causeway has created good habitat and that has encouraged all the sea life. Thanks for the enjoyable video.

100% it has. It was constructed as a breakwater but is acting as an artificial reef for lots of marine life. It's great to see. Off the delta port, they sank a bunch of rocks to create an artificial habitat. I have a couple videos from there too on my channel.

For sure! I wanted to dive it last week but the tides were super shallow after work. I like to have a little depth as the spot is already really shallow as is.

@@PNWSamson Thanks appreciate it. Does BC Ferries have any restrictions to divers around their docks? Not that you were very close, just curious...

Hmmm not formally. No signage or anything. But I'm sure if people were diving off the rocks right in front of the berth they'd be yelling and probably calling the coast guard. I wish I checked them out during the pandemic when they weren't running frequently. That was probably my only shot.

what thickness of wetsuit do you recommend for diving in the winter on the west coast?

@@stanf9898 oh bummer dude. Yeah, that sucks. My bottoms were removed in 2007 but I just got the top ones taken out. They were growing down and hitting my lower gums. They would get sore so figured I'd bite the bullet and take em out. Padi says wait two months, I'm thinking two weeks will be plenty. 🤞
