After getting our first big snowfall at the cabin, we spend the day on snow removal and put our snow plow into action.

Hi from Hong Kong. Here I am stuck in my apartment because of the Coronavirus scare. To entertain myself, I have been watching your channel. It makes me homesick as I am actually from northern British Columbia. We have 10 acres in a very rural setting. Anyway, I enjoyed your root cellar video. We will need a root cellar eventually too. Really like the cooking videos.

That scenery is absolutely stunning. A perfect Christmas card. Here in Australia our Christmas's are sooo hot, humid and horrid. I'm a winter person. Being Australian born and bred, I have never seen or felt snow. We get snow in winter in the mountains here in Victoria, N.S.W. Watching these video's gives me an insight as to how beautiful, and yes work. That lovely house of your's is so deceiving from the outside it looks tiny, but inside absolutely beautiful and quite large, soup, home cooked PERFECT rolls amazing. I missed your chicken preserving so watching that now..I adore the way you love your beautiful dog's with their little coats. Thank you so much for sharing your daily life with us Ariel and Eric. Hug's from Australia my favourite KZfaq channel. 😇❄☃️⛄

It snowed at the Illia Homestead!!! How on earth did Eric avoid the *snuck* when he opened the truck door??!!! That is skills! That winch/blade setup is nice, we use the same system. Handy to have! Beautiful scenery!! Caddis was watching your pups romp around. Can you send some of those buns over our way? Cheers folks, awesome video!!

Snow is beautiful. We get a plenty each winter. A lot of people see beauty. I think yucky driving. Plowing the driveway. The kids see sledding , snow man building, snow angels, fort building, and hopefully a snow day from school.💕. NonnaGrace

Shop broom for snow removal... makes quick work of that Alaskan Snow! The rolls looked awesome! Oh one other thing... if you dont mind advice, always keep in mind to plow to the low side of any path, drive way... I know that should be common sense but for some its not until it melts and then freezes again and makes ice in your way! Cheers!

Thank you, good advice. It was Eric's first time plowing, we have actually continually had a frozen driveway for the past two months! Definitely need the broom, one more thing for the Alaskan winters! :)

In fort Kent Maine they had over 200 inches of snow. What and this was in a short amount of time. What would you guys do that happened? And when I see a short amount of time I believe it was from like end of November till beginning of March I could be wrong. I mean people were able to drive snowmobiles on top of roofs. and when the lakes and rivers broke it actually pushedthe international bridge where they had to rebuild a newer one that was higher. And I think it was 1995 I could be wrong. But an allagash mean when the river ice broke it took a bridge right out. People were watching the ice go and it actually just push the bridge within minutes.I remember this because kids once the ice stop flowing had to take a boat across the river in order to come to school

Hi guys, not seen your channel before. I'm from England, I was wondering what kinda prices you see land for sale for there? I have no idea if you see lots of 5 or 10 acres for sale and at what price. I would love to buy some land in America to work on a cabin build to live in.
@SimpleLivingAlaska
@SimpleLivingAlaska 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Red Sox, we will probably cover this in a video at some point but it truly depends on what part of Alaska you are looking at. For land only you can find anything from 1/2 acre to 50 acres and beyond, our price point kept us in the 10 acres or under range, it also really depends on accessibility (if they are harder to access they are usually lower cost). You can get an idea of land prices on Alaska's list, there is also a website called Land in Alaska if you want to to get an idea of cost. Hope that helps :)

@@SimpleLivingAlaska Hi guys, I REALLY wish you would!!! Yes I totally get your point about it depends on where the land is in Alaska, but even if homesteaders/preppers gave maybe 3 or 4 Rough ideas for people out there, it would really help people! Most homesteaders/preppers focus on food, canning, stoves, Etc, etc. All are extremely important, but it seems Many totally forget about the cost of land, and the cost of materials to build their cabin Etc. I can understand some folks wanting to keep something's Private, but even if they gave a very basic idea of cost of land and materials it would really help folks! I have seen advice from some homesteaders on KZfaq who live in Alaska about bringing things with you when you move to Alaska because something's are very expensive in Alaska, good advice! I guess lots of folks realize a lot of that though because things have to be shipped from the lower states, making it more expensive. I think with me being a Brit it would be a great idea to go spend some time out in maybe different parts of Alaska, yes it's Fantastic watching folks live the life in a cabin on KZfaq, or in TV shows like Railroad, Alaska, or Last Alaskans, Yukon Men Etc, but very different ball game living there in a Winter and dealing with Minus 40 or 50 I was in Wyoming last winter for a few months, Minus 27F with the wind chill at times. In saying all of that, I remember watching a TV show about 2 years ago about 3 or 4 different tow truck companies out of Fairbanks, Alaska. Some of the crazy people they had to go out and rescue was Amazing! 1 female went out driving when it was extremely cold, minus 21 Etc, run out of Gas down a side road. It was Extremely lucky for her that she took her phone and was able to get a signal to call the towing company! She was found alive, but Wow she went out driving dressed in a T - shirt and run out of Gas! It's a good job she was able to get a signal and call the towing company, that saved her life!
