Great video Tom, I have the Ego dual stage snow blower and I love it I’m not sure if you reviewed it if not you should I think you will be pleased. One suggestion… you actually started to but shut down the SunJoe after you started talking. I think to show how quiet or loud the unit is you should have a bit of dialogue while it is running. I have had brief conversations with neighbors while my Ego is running. It was surprising to hear you the brief moment the blower was running and you were talking. I love your videos and keep up the great work.

I have an 18” SnowJoe with a 500w motor, with dual power source(battery and plug-in). It only uses one battery at time, and it does perform better when using an extension cord plugged into a standard wall outlet. Battery life seems consistent at about 20 minutes of hard work. I usually use it plugged in with a 100ft extension cord, and use the battery to clear out the hard to maneuver corners, isolated spots and when neighbors need help clearing their section of sidewalk. Over several Midwest winters I find it works well enough. I can’t let accumulation go past 4-6 inches, but even if I do, I just have to work more patiently. The main reason I didn’t choose a larger more powerful SnowJoe- I needed to fit this in my hatchback car so I could drive to my Mom’s house and also clear her driveway. I could use more power, but the portability makes my machine more useful overall. Also, it hardly takes up any space in my garage! Having the plug-in option also reduces the need to have a bunch of spare batteries.

Have to admit two things: 1) Hardly get snow in NC and 2) Set playback speed to max and when you sped up the clip is was even more humorous. Hopefully KZfaq doesn’t discredit me watching every minute of this great review. Glad you got the snow you’ve been awaiting for to do this review. 👍🏼 Nice unit for the average driveway. 45:25

Snow Joes are great! Two years ago I bought the two stage, self propelled model IonPro-100V with two 100 volt batteries. With 5 to 8 inches of snow, I do three driveways and half of the cul-de-sac with one charge. Best part - The variable speed let's you walk really fast. I bought a second charger to be able to charge both batteries at the same time. When the unit stops, there is just enough battery to return to the house and park the machine.

We have the 18" version of that Sun Joe. Our driveway is 15' x 115' and it can easily be cleared of 4" dry snow with one set of batteries. Wet snow is a challenge and only a few inches can bring operations to a halt. Keeping the chute straight ahead and going across the width of the driveway can defeat some types of packy snow. I always tell my wife, don't walk on the snow you intend to clear.

We have a Worx WG 471 20" with a pair of 20v 8-amp batteries that does similar. The batteries can get warm under load. I have a an extra pair of batteries as back up and so I can do the neighbor's sidewalk and our cul-de-sac. I got it for $179 plus taxes. When it is wet or deeper I bring out the 7-horsepower MTD!

I had a single stage Ego snow blower until upgrading to the two-stage when that came out. One thing learned - a problem I see you’re having with such a large driveway - is that blowing snow onto parts of the driveway that you have yet to clear due to the limited throwing capacity of a single-stage takes that three inches of heavy, wet snow and turns it into four inches of heavy, wet, compact snow and causes the blower to have to work even harder. Obviously this drains the batteries even faster. When I knew I had lots of heavy, wet snow to deal with, I’d often clear one part of the driveway, then blow the other part onto that space that I’d cleared and then re-clear that first bit. This helped extend the batteries’ charge and seemed to help get the job done with lest time charging in the middle.

I have an ego. It works really well, and I bought a second fast charger so I can charge both batteries at the same time. Usually one charged us the whole driveway but this last snow is really wet and heavy, as well as being about a foot deep, and it took two charges. So it's nice to have the ability to fast charge both at once.

I've got an older Snow Joe (iON24SB-XR 80v) 2 stage, bought 4 years ago. Has worked well enough for me in Colorado; Has worked well for the dry snow we get up here, but - the one time I let the snow melt for a day and get kinda slushy, it really struggled, had to borrow my neighbor's gas powered blower. Love having it be electric, I only have to use it a handful of times a year (most of the time the wind comes around and blows out enough of the snow so the blower isn't needed). I can usually get enough from one set of batteries to clear a path to the street, let the batteries recharge, then finish up the side areas/rest of the driveway later in the morning (take a lunch break if it's a work day). Would love an ego 2 stage, they look - much more powerful, but - the snow joe is good enough.

With wet snow, you want to soak the whole operating assembly (augur, impeller, chute, etc) with something like WD-40. It makes it a lot easier and it won't clog up as much.

@georgedaniels5547
@georgedaniels5547 Жыл бұрын
@@charliesullivan4304 Cooking sprays like Pam are more expensive. WD-40 is a water displacement spray that evaporates and doesn't leave a residue behind. I know some folks use it as a lubricant, but that's not what it is. Soaking the blower makes a big difference when you have that heavy wet snow I call "sausage" snow. I can usually get my 100 yards of sidewalk, front walk, and the driveway with one spray. And if it does start to clog, it's much easier to clean out. The WD-40 BLAST cans work best.

I think the only thing holding back these snowblowers is the manufacturers gouging for batteries. If I wanted to own one i'd go for a 'Bare Tool' variant and build my own battery. could't cost much more than 300$ to build a 48v 1kWh battery that would last nearly 3X as long as the batteries included with this one. Also wouldn't mind the added weight, it would be helpful at scraping as close to the pavement as possible. I got a corded snow blower for free and its actually annoyingly light.

We bought Green Works from Costco which is kind of the same thing but a little more expensive since batteries are more robust - 80 Volts ones. It clearly struggle with wet deeper than one foot snow since it clogs. Yet this Snow Joe has a metallic blade which is a good thing. Since we bought a lawn mower, a grass edge trimmer and a leaf blower from the same brand we have 8 batteries which allow to clean very large area of snow by swapping the batteries and charging depleted ones since we own 4 chargers and charging time is around 30 minutes. In our set we never have to wait since each battery lasts almost 30 minutes and the rest of batteries are charging. The same battery swapping works in the summer while mowing the grass. And by the way the batteries are allowed to be charged and stored at 100% which give me the impression they are LFP technology not affected by being charged 100%: it is written on them no memory, no limit of number of charging cycles. We will see them in the long run.

I had a unit with the same design (Seems like all of these are manufactured by the same factory) and I must say it wasn't really good for anything more than some few inches of light snow. Doing it manually was faster and less tedious. I would recommend spending 3 times the money on something like the other unit you have instead, that works.

$320 is still a lot of price of 2 more batteries in the video? When the replacement cost is lowered, I think larger driveway owners would find that investment acceptable. It would mean fewer charge cycles on the original set.

I've used the Toro 60V E26 2-stage, self-propelled, snow blower all winter. We've had about 135 inches of snow accumulation this past winter, and so far, I've cleared about 2,500 SF of driveway and walkways about 25 to 30 times. It is so nice not to have to keep a can of gas around and when you get a multi-day storm, you don't run out of gas! The Toro E26 accepts three batteries, and I have three 7.5 Ah batteries and three chargers. It takes 45 to 50 minutes to clear our snow and I am at 1 to 2 bars (out of 4 bars) when I finish. I have never run out of battery during use. The E26 always starts right up. The Toro E26 is good for up to about 8" of average snow before you need to take a smaller "bite". It chews through the plow berm at the head of the driveway no problem. Interestingly, the Toro 60V battery has side "ports" for air cooling and blower has an internal fan that pushes air through the battery during use. If you turn the snow blower off after working hard, the battery might warm up (with the internal cooling fan turned off) and then the battery may need a minute or two to cool down so you can turn it back on. (In normal snow blowing, it runs continuously for the 45 to 50 minutes with no issues.) I will never go back to a gas snow blower - I used a large gas-powered Ariens for 40 years prior to going to the electric snow blower.

I have a small driveway around 100sqft. I bought snow joe electric snow blower but it is corded. To be honest, if batteries are only good for 100 sq ft, why not plug in the thing with a 50 ft long extension cord or something to do job. My purchase was around $160 and it is one fourth of the cost of the battery powered one. No hassle of oil, gas, carburetor too. Electric is great but good battery snow blowers are way too expansive. Edit: my purchase (on 01/07/22) price was corrected. I don’t know why the unit I got SJ623E is now cost $238 on Amazon. So, price is increased this year. Also, you probably wanna spend $40 or something for a good extension cord if you don’t have it already.

Hmm.... 💡💡💡!!: Buy an electric unit and shoot a video...voila! Tax deduction! Boom! Seriously though, I know it's just a loaner for review.... Plus for that drive you'd need the full size Snow Joe dual stage unit like your Ego to do your drive.
