When i was just a small lad I remember looking through the window in my Dad's car while he drove me to school. The song was absolutely magical to me especially the intro. I bought their album when I was just 8 years old and would play this song on repeat and sing it in the car every morning to school. My Dad passed away and everytime i hear this song i think of him ! Rest in peace Dad ♥️

How did I not know this tune until now when Spotify suggested it to me. I have to say the spirits were wrong as I wasn't offered the opportunity I asked the spirits of Spotify about that suggested me this song to just say yes but whatever I found this fantastic tune from it and can't stop playing. Never knew I liked this band. This version is shorter than Spotify version

What I love about Snow Patrol is that they can write the perfect pop song and then turn it into a alternative rock track. Perfect lyrics + perfect music = perfect band.

It sort of reminds me of Muse, except less "intense" maybe? The instruments and lyrics are so epic and then his vocals are so soothing.. the contrasts is pretty amazing.

theopiated Snow Patol are just as epic/intense as Muse, when they play live. I saw them at the O2 London. The light show and sound was so overwhelming when they played 'Fallen Empires' that your mind couldn't process it. Check out some of the videos with the 'red filmstrip' effect!

Snow Patrol is such an incredibly talented band and their songs are very meaningful. I was lucky enough to get a chance to speak with them- but for a couple of hours- in Boston at a pub late night and they showed that they're not only remarkable musicians but also very kind, humble, remarkable people. Keep on making music and being awesome Snow Patrol!

I have to live with a toxic person. Whenever I lose hope, I play this song first - nothing to do with love at all but their music reminds me to stay positive and that things are going to be great someday! There's something about this band, their music, and their message, in general, that is uplifting. This song hits so close to home for me right now. My wife and I have been going through a bit of a hurdle in our marriage (I think we will be ok), but we both love music and are constantly using music to express to each other feelings that oftentimes we cannot find the words for. +Nelson Turyasingura one of many reasons why a synth player is always a good thing to have in a soft rock band, while i imagine this song would still sound great without synths they play a major part in the song, especially with those plucking sounds you here right at the start and through out the song.

One of my favorite Snow Patrol songs with some interesting history: The song was written by Gary Lightbody in Los Angeles with producer Jacknife Lee. He wrote it at the request of the band's label in the United States for pop singer Gwen Stefani's then upcoming album. However, Stefani rejected it. Later, Lightbody allowed Pussycat Dolls lead singer Nicole Scherzinger to record it. Scherzinger had loved the song, and felt grateful and "blessed" upon being given permission to record it, even calling it an "honour" to sing something written by Lightbody. Scherzinger felt influenced by the Northern Irish Lightbody's accent, and attempted to record the song with an accent herself, with Lightbody acting as the producer. Though she was nervous about doing justice to the song, she was relieved when Lightbody told her that her singing had made his mother cry. The song was due to feature on Scherzinger's solo debut album Her Name is Nicole, but the album was ultimately scrapped in favor of her eventual debut Killer Love. When Snow Patrol's label in the United Kingdom heard the song, they were shocked to learn that Lightbody had given away the song in the first place. Lightbody then reclaimed the song for the band. I cannot wait for the next Snow Patrol tour--one of the greatest!!! xx

Thanks that was a wonderful potted history of the song. Amazing, powerful song. Deserves more likes and exposure. He sings with such conviction. Love his voice and lyrics ...Am a bit addicted to discovering their other songs now...

I grew up with this song, I love it! I used to listen to it all the time; on the way to school, as a child in the lounge, in the car and it's just such a good song. No doubt about it one of my favorite songs.
