The first pictures have leaked from the set of Disney's latest live action remake, Snow White. And well... they're not exactly flattering. Could this end up being Disney's biggest flop yet?

Somebody once said "Just because you have new paint, does that mean you repaint the Mona Lisa?" and I think that is the most accurate way to describe these remakes. Changing classic movies to conform to modernistic ideologies is dumb because it is like trying to gloss over history to a point where history is unrecognizable. Not all past history is great but you have to still acknowledge that *it exists* regardless of how modern audiences look back on it now. The original Snow White is a timeless masterpiece because it is itself a part of history and history is reflected in it.

I would totally understand them changing the prince’s kiss, at least adding a line of dialogue from said prince asking a dwarf “what happened?” And the dwarf says something like “it’s a curse, only true loves kiss can wake her” or something like that, because it is admittedly a little weird that a dude sees a corpse and thinks “ya time to smooch” but that’s a simple and quick solution that doesn’t affect the story in any negative way

My problem with the casting of Rachel Zegler isn’t only that she isn’t “snow white” as the titular character has been very specifically described, but also how could anyone deem her more beautiful than Gal Gadot? That was the premise of the tale - the Queen’s jealousy drove her to want Snow White dead. I can’t imagine someone who looks like Gal Gadot being jealous of or insecure about Rachel Zegler who’s pretty enough (when she isn’t making the oddest faces) but not by any stretch a great beauty.

@@mpb3481 Some people assumed that's the character arc of Evil Queen. Even when she's way prettier than anyone in the world, she will still be evil and get jealous of others' normal look. Maybe the original cartoon didn't make to seem that way (as Snow White in cartoon seems prettier than queen) but the live action is going in this direction because Gadot surely is prettier than Rachel.

As a German from the very area where Snow White comes from, I am saddened and offended at the degradation of the 1937 movie which was quite close to the original storyline (true the prince did not wake her with a kiss but he was there and he was in love with her). Zegler exhibits a level of smugness that is unbecoming of an actor staring in a movie that has delighted generations and is very justly considered a classic precisely because its values transcend the vicissitudes of time rather than being a product of a fleeting presence. Since when is celebrating the enduring and redeeming power of true love outdated. This new movie is cultural approbation and above all defamation

Don’t get me wrong, there are black people that don’t share my sentiment. These people believe that the movie studios actually care about us😂😂😂…… No! All they care about is trying to make more money…… if they Disney really cared about us, they would make original content based on our stories. But it seems that the only black stories they know are slave stories and that doesn’t fit Disney’s happy agenda. So they slop us into recycled European stories. But, if they were a little less racist they would find that there are literally hundreds of happy black or African stories that everyone can relate to. If they did that, I think people would not have a problem with diversity in movies.

There's people who like strong male characters who don't need anyone or women either. Mgtow said men don't like relationships, and said women are just golddiggers and burdens. Why do you think it's only ok for men to not want anyone or women? Also, just because people don't want a relationship doesn't mean they're bad. Some men said they don't want male characters or men to do everything. Superhorrorbro played the demo of the House of Ashes. In that game, a male character let a female character fall cause she was dragging him down. There was a comment that said that it's good he let her fall and didn't help her to not be a simp. So some men think it's bad if male characters to help female characters. So what's the point of you wanting female characters to want men? On ZackScottgames review on the Mario movie, he said he thought inactive female characters are boring.

"Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" is deeply rooted in German folklore, having been popularized by the Brothers Grimm in the 19th century. This story, known in its original German as "Schneewittchen," is a treasure from the rich tapestry of European folk traditions. Stripping it of its origins and heritage would be akin to removing the essence of its cultural context. The characters, settings, and motifs are intrinsically European, reflecting the environment, values, and beliefs of the time and place from which they emerged. To reimagine them outside of this context would not only dilute the story's historical and cultural significance but also fail to honor the authenticity of the narrative that has captivated audiences for centuries.

I’m almost 30, so I remember VHS tapes on the CRT TV sitting on top of the fridge at daycare at this old ladies house. She was a Disney fanatic. Owned all the tapes and books and plushies and the whole 9 yards. Would go to the Grand Floridian once a year every year for an extended vacation. She would boil us hot dogs for lunch and would play the tapes on the TV (it was on top of the fridge so no one could reach up to touch it lol). I remember the commercials on TV for the “Disney Vault Collection” and they would only release and sell VHS in limited runs at a time, or at least that’s how I remember it, but the Vault was a real thing. All this backstory to say, once absolutely every Disney property has a live action remake, I imagine Disney putting ABSOLUTELY EVERY ANIMATED CLASSIC back into the “Vault”, no longer available for the public to see. That’s my guess. I only saw the first Avengers and the first of the 3 new Star Wars Trilogy, and knew it wasn’t like the stuff I saw as a kid. So I stopped watching anything Disney a while ago. I still read the news and all that, but wow everything fell apart.

The Original Snow White was not only Disney's first full length feature film. It was a huge risk taken by Walt that his own brother & investors were totally against as they thought an animated movie would never ever make money. So Walt funded this film himself and the pay off was not only huge, but it created a whole new mega popula genre of film. Walt Disney was a creative visionary that took risks in the name of *NEW IDEAS, IMAGINATION, PROMOTING GOOD MORALS, THE POWER OF LOVE AND FAMILY VALUES* My how far has Disney broken away from its roots. Now they're just morally & creatively bankrupt hacks that lack any vision and prefer to just plagiarise, memberberry and lecture on highly divisive political ideology that has no place whatsoever in family entertainment.

Every time they lost a lot of money, they just re-released it. > Facing financial troubles due to WW2? re-release Snow White. > Going through a lull because Walt Disney himself died? re-release Snow White. > On the brink of bankruptcy because the 80s are your worst decade yet? re-release Snow White. So they’re ok with Snow White being race swapped when her skin color is in her literal name, but when Disney revealed the casting for Lilo and Stitch live action, the woke mob complained that the actress playing Nani is “too white” for the role, even though she is still a legitimate Hawaiian woman? What do they think, that everyone who is not European is black? So why is Nani’s skin so important but Snow White, who’s physical appearance has been established in fairytales for centuries, can all of a sudden be ignored and altered because someone apparently can’t relate to her unless they look exactly like her.

I mean, the way they were portrayed, was also pretty realistic, because they were miners and miners in medieval times werent of the tallest builds. The constant exposure to toxic fumes and lack of oxygen in the mines will do that to you over a lifetime when you start working as a minor. There also was a generall need to be compact because medieval mines were not especially grand in design nor execution. Thats why the hats of the miners were so long and stood up as they were filled with straw to protect the head against falling rocks. At least as well as was feasible back then.

How did Disney go so very bad, in the last years. Remember good films with Kurt Russell, or a Volkswagen Beatle, or a Dog named "Old Yelliw", several others ones in the 1960's to 1989's! Walt Disney must be Rolling over in His Grave!

I am European born and raised with H.C. Andersen's Stories, The Brothers Grimm stories and, funnily enough, quite a few Polish ones. One thing I would like to see in these strange American times where it seems that you try to make things that don't exist, by walking around in old fairy tales made over a hundred years ago. Why isn't a reformulation of American history being made? Afro Americans could play the evil colonists who hunted and killed the evil Indians here played by whites of course, while a strange colored woman who tells everyone else what is wrong with them. I would give money to see that story. No, if hollywood can't treat the old fairy tales properly, then it would suit them to come up with something new, they are so inventive and talented I can already feel the headache

Part of the problem is the extreme social divide in the US, though the rest of the West has similar issues. The more urban you become, the more socially liberal and progressive you become. Hollywood is at the pinnacle of "social progressivism."
@doomandgloom_
@doomandgloom_ 9 ай бұрын
@@Jake-rs9nq You're right. But the biggest problem is that the whole issue moves out to either the right or the left. To the best of my knowledge, most people are closer to the middle than one of the extremes, but it seems that the two extremes are the only ones that get any attention. It is an unsustainable situation and one that traditionally helps to send people in the opposite direction of those who at the time seem most foolish, causing many traditionally center-seeking people to look to the right. Something that is also not a very good idea. Usually the world works best when the sides can talk to each other without going crazy. And you are absolutely right that the USA is totally constipated. I still wish they would stick to destroying their own cultural heritage instead of destroying everyone else's.

I think the funniest part is that Ziegler apparently never watched it, if she thinks the story and character were just focused on finding love. They weren't. Like at all. Snow White does fall in love with the prince early, but after the Queen tries to kill her, The love story disappears until the very end. The character isn't focused on it at all. She pretty much just makes a life with the dwarves. She isn't trying to get her life or her love back. She is befriending dwarves and animals and surviving....yes the end is the cliché (even back then it was a cliché) damsel in distress being saved by the prince and being whisked to a new perfect life because she was good and all loving. But the character wasn't striving for that. That was a reward for the character being a good kind loving person.
