Do you want to go snowmobiling in Canada? This video will explain what to expect, where to do it and what the costs are! Come for an epic day on the trails as we finally tick snowmobiling off our working holiday bucket list!
Snowmobiling is one of those things that fully encaptures winter in Canada but isn’t necessarily the cheapest or most accessible activity... Since moving to Canada, snowmobiling has been one of those things we have always wanted to do but haven’t always had the time or money for. Having my parents come to visit Canada was the perfect excuse to finally make the time, so we headed out to Kicking Horse to join Rocky Mountain Riders for an incredible day!
We opted for the full-day (5h) tour which started right at the base of Kicking Horse resort. We drove ourselves to Kicking Horse, leaving Banff around 7am but if you are visiting Banff and don't have a car, they also offer a Banff shuttle.
Once we arrived we filled in some paperwork, were offered additional insurance for our sleds and got set up for the day. I would highly recommend being as prepared as you can with a full-head balaclava, ski goggles and good snow boots! If you don't have these things you will need to rent them which does come at an extra cost.
The day on the trail was magical. With snowy conditions and sun peaking through we had a blast learning how to drive the sleds and swapping back and forth. Our half way point was the lunch stop for the day where (very simple) burgers were cooked for us an we warmed up by a small fire with hot chocolate and cookies.
The second half of the day was by far our favourite! With confidence on the sleds building, we explored more of the trails and even had a bit of free play time in the softer snow. It was the perfect afternoon!
If you're considering snowmobiling, I would highly recommend Rocky Mountain Riders. Other providers can be found in Invermere, Golden, Revelstoke and Kananaskis as well!
Now that thats off the bucket list, next one to tick off is heli skiing… any tips?

What a great video. That's so awesome that your folks were able to experience this skidoo trip. Doesn't get anymore Canadian than that! Your folks will have great stories to take back home to Australia to share with their friends and family.
