Rabbit hunting with beagles in Nova Scotia, Canada! This is my first snowshoe hare hunting video of the 2022/2023 season. Although the snowshoe hare population is down across the province, we found and area with promising cover that proved to hold quite a few hares. Using several dogs, we managed to harvest quite a few hares! Please be advised that the following video is not intended for all audiences. Viewer discretion is advised!
Note: All of the animals harvested in this video were not put to waste.
Guns used: Benelli Montefeltro (20 gauge), Remington 870 (20 gauge), and Browning Citori (20 Gauge).
Ammunition used: Kent Cartridge Ultimate Fastlead (1 oz, #6 Bird Shot).

Hey Cory! Thanks for watching. Honestly, I don't do a ton of hunting near Halifax. Most of my snowshoe hare hunting spots are either in Hants County or the South Shore (1.5 hours from Halifax). For waterfowl my spots are typically far outside the HRM core and are only accessible by boat.

Rabbits are all but extinct in our area now, population has not recovered in many years .Im 56 and have seen may cycles come and go, something is different in our area, we believe its the tick population keeping them from coming back. heading out tomorrow to give it a whirl.

Best of luck! Definitely the worst I've seen it here... Hopefully someday they bounce back. It's been a bad few years for ticks and I wouldn't be surprised if they were the culprits.

I wish we had a decent population of snowshoe hare here in pa we have them but they’re very rare we only have a 3 day season with a limit of 1 hare per person only areas that hold them are Allegheny national forest and Appalachian mountain areas.

@@Huntingpros Pennsylvania Game Commission knew all these years the hare population was dropping and they never did anything to try and fix this issue before hare disappears for good in the state for the first time in many years they’re trying to increase the hare population we’ll see how this goes
