My wife and I live in Australia but we used to go skiing in Colorado before Covid. We decided to do some snowshoeing as well. The salesman who sold us the snowshoes told us we should do the “ten step program” to become an expert in snowshoeing. You just take ten steps and you’re an expert! 😀

You are an awesome dad. My dad also taught me to love the outdoors (although it's incredibly hot in Texas). I have grown to love the cold and snow. I hope to live somewhere one day where I can take my kids snowshoeing.

Its so important to get the kids outdoors, as time goes on and video games, internet continue to keep our kids glued to the indoors, we need to make sure we share the outdoors. great video. I just went snowshoeing for a little bit in Chicago for the first time . I found out there's lot to learn when it comes to it. Im hoping the snow keeps coming down so i can go and practice more. Have a great and safe winter !!

Late to the party here, but want to thank you for this video. I am looking at trying snowshoeing for the first time ever this winter (2019-2020). Had no idea where to even start as far as equipment, etc. The advice and tips given in this video have given me at least a starting point. I do have a background in Cross country skiing, and am going to get back into that again this winter as well. I simply figure that this might as well be the year I finally try snowshoeing, after years of just thinking about it. Time to get out there and just do it! I think a visit to Play It Again Sports store might be in order to see what they might have. Thanks again for all the tips and advice in this video. Great stuff for rank beginners like me. @@TheRealOutdoorExperience Thanks for the response. I think I might have found a close match at Play it again Sports. We looked up my weight (Appx215 ...and dropping) and determined that 8-10w x 30-32L inch shoes are ideal for me. He has a set of 10x28's on hand right now. I know 28 is a bit on the shy side for length, but that just means I will need to take a few more pounds off before winter. Going to stop back in there on Friday to see if they are still there or if he may have gotten something else in this week. Thanks again. This is going to be an interesting journey for sure. At the very least it should make for some "interesting" Vlogs, LOL.

I use ski poles or trekking poles with snow baskets for better balance and locomotion with the snow shoes.

Do you think the YANES Mountain Pass 36" Snowshoe KIT Blue 300 LBS would work for someone that is 200lbs shoe size about 9.

Wow, that's a lot of clothing! I live in NE Pennsylvania, and all I ever wear is a vest lol! -200C? That's about -320° F! Where were you, on Pluto lol! Thank you for the reply and info! Janah I weighed about what you do, and used 36” snowshoes from Tubbs & Louis Garneau. I’ve lost some weight and use 30” GV & MSR snowshoes most of the time now, with the 36” ‘shoes in really fluffy snow and 25” MSRs on more packed trails.

Hi and thanks for watching! I have many different clothes for the outdoors. In this video I am wearing an insulated camo suit, bib overalls and a coat. I also use a base layer and build on that depending on how cold it is. The day we shot this video it was -20C. Thanks again and always... Keep it Real!

I am a cancer survivor.Someone I know had suggested that i take up snowshoeing to get light exercise over the long winter here in New Hampshire. ...I am not sure where to begin with all the manufacturers on the market.I prefer quality and longevity in my selection.any suggestions

Hi Steve, thanks for watching and I am glad to hear that you are a survivor! Cancer touches everyone in some way, glad you made it through! Snowshoeing is a great activity in the winter, it really works the cardio! I am a large man at 6'6" and prefer the newer aluminum style shoes. I have used traditional wood/gut, traditional style plastic and I keep coming back to the aluminum longer shoes as I showed in the video. As far as what model you should choose, it is really up to your comfort. The aluminum are lighter but do tend to sink a little more due to the lack of surface area. The issue I have with the traditional style is their width and their weight. I would stay away from the bargain versions as the bindings usually give out quickly. I hope this helps! When buying snowshoes, for what weight range to buy for do you do your personal weight or that of you and a backpack?

The more weight, the larger the shoes, if you plan on carrying a back pack all the time you may want to account for that. For me, I buy the biggest shoes out there as I usually exceed the rating. Just remember, the shoes get bigger the more weight they are rated for. If you are a small person, large shoes may be cumbersome. Thanks for watching!!! Keep it Real!

The Real Outdoor Experience So I am assuming you went with the 300 lbs Yanes Mountain pass? Did you consider the 250 lbs Twin Peaks?

I have the Mountain Pass 92, I am over 250 and usually carry gear as well. For me, bigger is sometimes better! I didn't consider the twin peaks simply because of the weight rating.

Thank you for the feedback. I ordered the mountain pass 300 lbs for me seeing I am 6'2" and 230 lbs. I figured go big or go home. I decided instead to go snowshoeing. I ordered the mountain peaks 150 lbs for my wife and daughter. They will be my testers.
