@@JinxedThoughts You're right it is all setup for the future. This is where Rudy spends the majority of his life from now on. And as such he remains acquainted with all the people he met this season, even after they move away from Ranoa. The novels are very much worth reading imo. Even if you've already watched the anime. There is a manga as well, but it's pacing is arguably even quicker than the anime, so it won't give you much additional information.

I wouldn’t say this season was poorly directed but clearly the storyboarding wasn’t well thought out. The school arc ran too long but at the same time didn’t build out the right parts while arc before school needed another episode.

The issue is, we didnt see him charging through 5 nation capitals in his b-line for Roa. Nor did we get his information Rudy's spells being emperor tier or that his one shot rule was made because Rudy damaged Orsted.

I mean overall I still think that it's good and I get that this is all set up for later. But I do still think that a full batch of 12 episodes deserves to be judged by its own merits and not just what it does for the future

​@@JinxedThoughts I do not know what to think about that, if it's fair or not. Being readers, we can just skip to another volume to see where each thread leads. This is where the author just plants so many seeds and balance them all throughout the story. But, I do think there's a version where these first 12 episodes is 10x better. That's if they follow the light novel which explored each and every character here. It also kept the Fitts reveal a mystery, so we focus more on the students around Rudeus and the role they might play. Rudeus even had this eerie moment of almost becoming a bully after Pursena and Linia's kidnapping and after the ego boost he had from defeating Badigadi, but he had a monologue stopping himself from choosing the path because it was the path his bullies took. There's also an entire magic system that only Rudeus couldn't use, essentially nerfing him, and Badigadi is supposed to give this information but they cut it all out for some reason. We also know more about each of the characters here, but always in bits and pieces. In the anime, Cliff, for example, is a good example. People expected him to be this rival of Rudeus, but he's more complicated than that. Zanoba too seemed comedic relief who thinks of nothing but dolls but then suddenly he named Julie with a name his brother had, the brother he killed. In the light novel, there's loads of this. These aren't just school mates; they are deeper characters. TLDR, light novel good
