As a little boy in the 1970's, Christopher Reeve was the Superman/Clark Kent I grew up with. He was so great in the role. Of course, my respect for him grew even more after his 1994 horse-riding accident that left him paralyzed for the remainder of his life. When that first happened, I remember thinking that he could not be paralyzed; he was Superman, the Man of Steel. I also love and admire how he never gave up on his belief that he would someday walk again, right up to the end of his life.

Thank you... I've been saying. Christopher Reeves' Clarke Kent is brilliant because he plays the complete opposite to Superman. Geeky, awkward, shy. The people in the office hardly notice him. And that's the point, he has to be insignificant to hide his identity. It's not just about the glasses and that's what was missing from Man of Steel

It's written WAY better than any of the other CW superhero shows were, and he does a terrific job making Clark seem a little nerdy. An Real American Superhero Classic. Whatever it was campy or not, it was a true iconic film that made Christopher Reeve career R.I.P Superman. It was also optimistic, it was funny, it was heroic, it was an blockbuster. Fun Fact: Nobody on the set corrected Marlon Brando about the pronounce of Krypton. Even, during the rocket scene you can almost see Brando looking down and reading the script. God bless John Williams for his retirement: Jaws, Star Wars, Superman, Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park, Harry Potter. Great way start the new year. God bless America 🇺🇸.

@@radicalreactions1633 Yeah, I know. I knew it at 9 years old. Although no, it's not the SAME theme, there are variations melodically, but pretty much it's rehash. In general, John Williams has made a career imitating Mahler and other than his early iconic work (Jaws, Star Wars, CEOT3K), I find him a bore; the best thing he ever did was "Close Encounters Of The Third Kind", which is partly because it's more than just a score, it's a literal plot point.

Through the years they've tried to make sense of the turning back time scenario. At this point many say that it's not that he turned time backwards but he actually went back in time himself, stopped enough of the disasters to save Lois, and then went forward in time to when he left. The flying around the world in the opposite direction at hyper speed is what allowed him to travel through time.

Have to remember, this, and the Wonder Woman TV series (which also started out deliberately campy) were the first Superhero movies since the 60’s Batman, and “campy” was still coin of the realm-The producers originally wanted a comedy with James Caan’s Superman trying to figure out his 70’s relationship with Lois.(hence Hackman’s funny Luthor), but Reeve, Richard Donner, and an emerging pre-Star Wars hope for the 70’s gave us something epic instead.

There is no working theory how time-travel into the past could take place, so basically Superman the movie can make anything up. He appears to have been altering space-time, not the rotation of the Earth. This is a power that is too powerful for Superman. Anytime anything bad happens, he can just do that trick to turn time back to a point before the bad things happen.

Kay, I suspect that the version you watched had the abbreviated entrance to Luthor's hideout scene. In the full version, Superman drills down and then has to get through three deathtraps. Machineguns then flamethrowers and finally wind & cold machines to freeze him solid. As for another one of your questions, Lex didn't intend to kill Miss Teschmacher's mother. The missile going to Hackensack, N.J. is because Otis mistakenly put in 117 as the third target co-ordinant instead of 11 with the 7 being the fourth target co-ordinant. Christopher Reeve has done the best portrayal of Superman.

As to Lois flying with Superman: There is a physicist named Dr. James Kakaklios who wrote about the physics of superheroes. He allows them a one-time exemption from the laws of physics. Flash can run super-fast, so going at that speed is his one-time exemption. However, Superman has so many powers that a one-time exception is seemingly impossible. However, I saw Dr. Kakaklios give a lecture about this in person. Afterwards, I talked with him, and he suggested that Superman actually only has one power: He can control inertia. If he has that power, it explains everything. Flying, super-vision, super-speed, super-strength, the ability to carry objects without regard to center of mass or torques that would cause the object to fall apart (lifting a boat, for example) ... So controlling Lois's inertia would allow for her to fly with him. And the moment he loses contact with her, he can no longer control her inertia. The ability to control inertia is actually his super-power. It's his one-time exemption form the laws of nature. In fact, it implies other powers he's never actually attempted. Controlling inertia is a big, big deal.

The Adam West Batman knew exactly what it was. It is impossible for modern audience to laugh at those shows/movie for being silly, because that was the intention all along. And the show is pretty funny and entertaining still, imho. I know that I would get more enjoyment out of watching a few of those classic 60s Batman shows, than the latest 'The Batman' movie, that's for sure. That being said, although 'The Batman' is gloomy and boring, and Ben Affleck's iteration was just asinine, at least Nolan managed to strike a good balance, and for me is the best version of that character. I was never a fan of the Tim Burton and 90s versions either.

Lol "could you turn back time if you spun the earth backwards?" To be fair. It's never actually been attempted, so.....there's some wiggle room for it to be true👍🤣🤣

I actually just found out the Jeff East the young Clark Kent starred in Pumpkinhead. I've watched Superman like a million times and I've seen Pumpkinhead a bunch of times also and I had no idea that that was the same guy😎

A bit of trivia. In the beginning of the movie, when Clark runs past the train, little girl Lois Lane exclaims to her mother about it. The actress that plays Lois Lane's mom is Noel Neill. Noel Neill played Lois Lane in the old black and white Adventures of Superman series and the old serials. A nod to Superman fans. -OG

I'm with you in that I don't think Superman is about beating up bad guys. I don't wanna see that from him. I want to see him saving people. That's why DC's Superman doesn't do it for me. I like Henry Caville, but when I watched the first Superman movie with him, half of it is just him fighting the three bad guys and totally destroying Metropolis. I love Christopher Reeve and Brandon Routh, and also Dean Cain on Lois and Clark. I love that show.

In defense of Henry Cavill's Man of Steel Clark Kent, compared to the Christopher Reeve version, Henry didn't become the Clark with glasses until the last few minutes of the movie. Plus, Lois already knew him FIRST as the Kryptonian before being Clark. It's just a different movie. -OG

To explain Superman does not reverse the earths rotation that would kill everyone on earth. Superman mentions he doesn’t know how fast he can fly so when he breaks the rule of interfering with human history he leaves earth then flies ate the speed of light going back in time. The earth going in reverse is a Supermans point of view and he looks down to see when to stop and head back to the moment he left.

They don't make movies like this anymore. I saw this film, as a child, years ago on Cable Tv and it blew me away! These FX were new and Incredible at the time. ( Today, most scenes are CGI and green screen.) Actors had to act through scenes, not be CGI 'ed out of them. There was no competition then because no 1 else was doing this. WB was First with Superman and then Batman, 11 years later...

Look, Christopher Reeve set the immortal gold Platinum standard for how Superman should be portrayed. I'm talking he set it to an unparalleled astronomical level. If there is a possible close second it would be Henry Cavill. The others were great but Henry would be the closest. Animated I'm going to go with Tim Daly and Superman the animated series quite possibly 3rd overall

My one quibble is that Superman can fly fast enough to circle the Earth in a second but it took him forever to catch that missile. Maybe he was more motivated to go faster to save Lois.

Lois Lane in these movies is kind of like that dog you never want to let off its leash, because you just know it'll run right into traffic. Always getting into trouble. I do have a few issues with Christopher Reeve as Clark, but he's the best Superman there's ever been.

Maybe #KayReacts could watch the old Superman show from the 1950's? THAT Lois Lane actress had a cameo in this film (Mom on the train)! There's films worth seeing Reeve in.... like DeathTrap directed by Sydney Lumet Noises Off with Carol Burnett & John Ritter and Duvall's Fairy Tale Theatre - he's Prince Charming, of course. Love to see you react to Short Circuit as well (#5 is alive! -- yuk yuk yuk).

🥸👍 I also live in California, and I'm a lot older than you. Believe me, the Northridge earthquake of January 17th, 1994 was one terrifying experience that caused LOTS of structural damage all over Los Angeles, particularly the valley. I don't know what part of the state you live in, but the October of 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake reduced a giant chunk of San Francisco to rubble. 😵‍💫 Let's hope we don't have a repeat of either of them...or one that's even worse.

@ You got that the other way around. At least Superman IV is about a character that's not only IN the film, but people care about him. And it's Chris Reeve. Supergirl is just cheap female knock-off of Superman, that's the only reason she stuck around, and the movie didn't make anything, so nice try.

Back in the 70s, I remember hearing the idea that if the world spin backwards the time we go backwards. Never made any sense to me even as a kid. I always wondered why all the other planets would go backward simply because Earth did. But the movie made sense in that context. People thought it.
