So Cold the Canal Froze ! CSL Assiniboine arrives Duluth MN breaking ice.

Welcome to 2018 ! The CSL Assiniboine is the 1st ship for me to catch this year. The Monson was the 1st arrival, I decided to sleep a little longer. The Canal has a thin veneer of ice, which the Assiniboine cuts right through, also a great salute for the fans on the piers from the ship !

@@PaulScinocca , I am 81 years old and was born in the winter of 1938. We lived on Park Point for years, but snow was not tolerable for our family. We moved to Duluth Heights for some reason and after High school, joined the Navy. Retired after 22 years and now live in Georgia. About every five years I go back home and go down to the pier and watch the boats. Nostalgia kinda sets in. God bless

So for anyone not not familiar this is the Duluth harbor in Duluth Minnesota. The ship is honking its horn to let the Lift Bridge controller he is entering the Harbor. Ive seen alot of jokes about honking the horn to let the ice know its coming but this was the real reason which is why you heard a second horn after the first. That is what the bridge horn sounds like and it sounds so much louder in person.

Good video. I hate loading these boats though. The self unloader has to be swung off the boat when loading and it causes an offset list port or starboard depending on if we are loading them up or down river.
