Glad you guys enjoyed the song and video. I was the original guitarist for Miami Sound Machine (the guy playing guitar wearing a Panama hat in the video). It was cool watching somebody watch the video for the first time 36 years later.

I loved you guys! If I had a bad day at work when I was 21, I would put my tape on with my favorite songs on it so, I could dance. I had earphones on with an extra long chord & the music was blaring. It was also great at weddings. The whole place would be up, even my Mom. It was a lot of fun. Thank you for sharing your talent with us. It is such a Blessing. Y'all we're great! Be safe.

Love Gloria Estefan! She has a lot of awesome songs to get hooked on. "Rhythm Is Gonna Get You", "1-2-3", "Dr. Beat", "Get On Your Feet", "Anything For You", "Bad Boy", "Coming Out of the Dark", "Here We Are", "Mi Terra", "Oye Mi Canto", "Don't Wanna Lose You" and "Words Get In The Way". Oh, FYI, the guy in the blue jacket on the conga drums is her husband, Emilio Estefan, who is also her manager.

I swear, the best part of this was watching the two of you light up and come to life when the horns came in, followed closely by Gloria's awesome vocals! That caught you completely off guard, and it was freakin' AWESOME! This song is from 1985. Check out their 1987 hit "Rhythm is Gonna Get You" if you wanna hear another banger from them! Not that those are their only two hits, mind you.

Gloria was HUGE back in the day. She had a terrible accident, well they all did (I think it was the tour bus that crashed) But she survived, and came back even stronger. 💖🎵🎸🎤🎶💃💃💃💃💃

Yes I remember that, it happened near my hometown. I was a kid and she was huge at that time. The tour bus crashed in the snow near Scranton, Pa. They were pretty messed up but I believe everyone survived and eventually came back better than ever. Man, that must've been the late 80s!?

Not to contradict you but i think that accident ruined her career, she was never the same, breaking her back, she couldn’t dance like she did before the accident and her voice lost some power which is very understandable after that tragedy, this story resembled a lot like billy idol, he too was never the same

Yes when she came back did that song coming out of the dark. Great song great comeback. However. The accident happened at the peak of her career, she couldn’t dance as well due to a broken back and was out of the game so long the group lost its momentum and never was as hot as they were pre accident.

As a Miami girl in a Cuban family I can tell you Gloria Estefan and the Miami sound machine is still played at EVERY SINGLE party we have from birthdays to Noche Buena or a just plain old Monday night as your cooking in the kitchen. Yessssss! Love the effect this song had on you guys!!!!!!

You need to hear Gloria sing - "1-2-3", "Rhythm Is Gonna Get You", "Don't Wanna Lose You, Now", "Words Get In the Way", "Bad Boy", "Coming Out of the Dark", (inspired after having a broken back from her tour bus being crashed into by a large truck. Her husband and son were also on the bus and had less extreme injuries. There's an English and Spanish version) "This Christmas", (first by Donny Hathaway) "Everlasting Love", "Turn the Beat Around", and more. The last two are remakes of songs from the disco/'70s era.

My sentamental favorite from them was "Anything for you". When it first came out, I was going through a painful divorce and had to drive several hundred miles to court. Every time this song played on the CD, I cried like a baby.

I was going to say her having her back broken in that accident and going on to perform that song at that awards ceremony was truly incredible. I hope the video they use is the live performance of that. The audience was so appreciative. Need to hear “Rhythm is gonna get you”.

RSR Family Gloria is royalty here in Miami. That's right I live here and some great music has come from here. This song was huge back in the day. This is the Latin sound that took over here in the 80s. I'm the son of Cuban immigrants and this band was important to the Cuban community. It's always about the beat with latin music.

She opened the doors for many Latin artists. She has received many accolades and awards. She was honored at The Kennedy Center Honors in 2017. Enjoy the journey. We certainly will!!

As 40yr old cuba-merican, born & raised in Miami, I can't fathom anyone not knowing this song. It's been played and danced to at every major event (bdays, weddings, quinceñeras, etc) throughout my whole life. So glad you both enjoyed it.

UNDERRATED!! They were the shit! Hits upon hits, upon hits. Now I have to revisit their hits. There were quite a few. Loved them. They looked & sounded great live. Their tour bus were involved in a really bad accident. Gloria couldn't walk for a long time.

She actually broke her back in that bus accident. I still remember the horrible feeling when the news came out. Everyone thought it was over for them but she was a fighter and came back from it, and continued to produce some beautiful music afterward.

@@CardiacCat I actually was at one of her first concerts after that wreck that she performed without the back brace (near Chicago..can't remember the actual name of the venue). "Coming Out of the Dark Tour". She busted her butt to come back from that wreck, and she came back with a vengeance! :)

I didn't think I'd like her music back then but quickly became a fan. My favorite song of hers is "Words Get In The Way", but she had several great songs. The wreck she survived was terrible, and I watched her reemergence on some awards show years ago. "Coming Out Of The Dark" was a moment I remember. Have a great day!

Gloria Estefan is a latina legend. She was in a bus accident in 1990 and suffered a spinal injury. The fact that she made a full recovery is amazing.

Gloria Estefan is Cuban, and the band draws heavily on Cuban music; a signature feature is that the piano is driving the tune's propulsive rhythm. It sounds pretty distinct from the music of Selena, Linda Ronstadt (both of whom are of Mexican heritage) and Marc Anthony (Puerto Rican). There's some similarity to Puerto Rican music, as there was a lot of cross traffic between the islands, with a lot of Cubans going there when the Communists took over Cuba. That's why Bacardi rum is in PR.

That piano style is popular in mambo and salsa. Salsa is a mix of different styles from different latin Caribbean countries, but was most popularized by Puerto Ricans in it's start. Mambo is it's close older cousin and is definitely Cuban.

She was huge as a group and even more huge as a solo artist. She has many many songs for you to react to. You would love THE RHYTHM IS GONNA GET YOU she has some great love songs and dance songs. Great Songwriter too. Her story of almost being paralyzed after a tour bus accident is an incredible story and she released COMING OUT OF THE DARK a tribute to what happened.

The rhythm of Cuba where Gloria and her husband are refugees from! So yes this is your Latin beat with pop music. Quite popular in the 80’s and 90’s. In fact Gloria wrote a song for closing ceremony at the Atlanta Olympics.

Just really great songs and she's a beautiful woman and singer! She has some really upbeat songs and a lot of love ballads! Rob N Amber....The Song you are hearing Is from The Primitive Love Album....The one on the Drums (Enrique "Kiki" Garcia) and Gloria Wrote The Song together...It definately Was the song that celebrated The Conga Beat,With The Rhythm Song Having the beat Called Biembe..Another song created by both Garcia and Estefan!

I’ve been waiting for you to do Gloria Estefan… clicked on this right away 💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻 If you want to introduce yourself to another Latina of that same time… Lisa Lisa & The Cult Jam is very much the vibe coming out of NYC when rap was first crossing into main stream. Their song “All Cried Out” is an epic back and forth heartbreaking ballad. She has such beautiful range in it.

For me (& most people), it is impossible to sit still when a song by the Miami Sound Machine comes on! They introduced the music mainstream to the Cuban vibe in the 80's. Definitely also check out "The Music's Gonna Get You" , "Turn the Beat Around", "Get On Your Feet" & "Anything for You", which showcases Gloria's beautiful vocals. The band was involved in a serious accident while on tour in 1990. Gloria was severely injured & nearly died. Doctors weren't sure she would even be able to walk again, but not only did she walk, but was even back dancing a year later on her comeback tour. She is an awesome person & does a lot of charitable work for the Latin community, abused children & music education. Her husband, Emilio is also in the band.

I knew you'd love it! :) For a couple more songs from them that will make you want to get up and dance, try "Rhythm Is Gonna Get You" and "Turn The Beat Around" (which is their cover of a 70s disco classic). I've never heard her post-accident song "Coming Out Of The Dark" but so many of the fam are suggesting it here, I feel like I need to go check it out now... :)

Gloria was discovered by her husband Emilio Estefan... he was a music producer and he put her up front w/ his group Miami Sound Machine and made her a global star in the 80's. Thankfully, they had a happy ending... they are still together & married w/ kids. Gloria survived nearly getting paralyzed in the early 90's in a tour bus accident... she recovered her mobility and performed again.

1985 CONGA!!!.... Was in the Navy and was in Florida when Miami sound machine was playing 'The Rhythm is gonna get You' but they rereleased this song which recharted about the same time. Big 80's!!!!

My father is a hug fan of Gloria and the Miami Sound Machine. She started off with this band then went solo as Gloria Estefan and had many hits even into the 90's. "Coming Out of the Dark" was a great song as well!. If I remember correctly, she wrote it about surviving a plane crash. She broke her back and lost many people she cared about.

These guys were amazing in the 80s and 90s. I went to several of their concerts back in the day and they were just as energetic on stage as in this video. They had quite a few big hits like "RYTHM IS GONNA GET YOU" and "TURN THE BEAT AROUND", and if you really want to hear how great her voice is try "ANYTHING FOR YOU" and "HERE WE ARE". I suggested her and her band back when you were doing the Latin artists like Salina, because I knew you would like them. I'm glad you finally did. You need to do some Ricky Martin now too.

Loved her growing up, the musical of her and her husbands life is such a great show [called "On Your Feet"] just an amazing life and career and when the accident happened and people thought she might die [or never walk again] was such a big emotional event back then, and her first live performance after is incredible. For horns, sax and a great beat you have to do "The Rhythm is gonna get you" and her first live performance after the accident that almost claimed her life of "Coming out of the dark" is a must watch.

Love Gloria she's awesome, she's from Cuba, grew up in America. Other songs I live of hers are Turn the beat around, Rhythm is gonna get you, Get on your feet, 1-2-3, Dr Beat & Can't stay away from you. I think you'll love them all guys.😎👌🎵

Love it!! She also has a beautiful voice on ballads. "I Can't Stay Away From You" was a song I used to cry every time I heard because it reminded me of an old flame.

My dad worked as a claims adjuster and had the accident that happened w/her tour buss on his desk for a few mins before the lawyers came down and snagged it off his desk. I remember hearing about it that day and my dad came home to tell me that. She was a great singer and performer.
