Parliament or otherwise known as P-Funk and Parliament Funkadelic started in my town of Plainfield, NJ! George Clinton still stops by to visit ... and he looks like an older businessman these days. They were the FUNKiest funk around. Believe it or not, many of the musicians received advanced music education at places like Julliard and Berkeley School of Music. Might I suggest 'Atomic Dog' or 'Give Up the Funk/Tear the Roof Off' The video of 'Atomic Dog' is fine, but look for live performance videos of the other songs! They actually started out as a doo-wop group in the late 50s at a barbershop here in town.

I didn't know they went to Julliard and Berkleley, but I can TOTALLY believe it!!! They are off the charts talented, and their complexity and musicality is just BEYOND!!! Mothership Connection is one of my favorite albumS EVER!!! And yeah, Atomic Dog and Give Up the Funk/Tear the Roof Off are 100% must-listens!!! ❤❤❤

Did Amber randomly describe their sound as "funkadelic," or did she know that Parliament and Funkadelic are the same group of musicians? I couldn't tell, and it kinda spun my head around. Next Stops: Maceo Parker, "Southwick (Shake Everything You Got)" Funkadelic, "One Nation Under a Groove" Ohio Players, "Love Rollercoaster"

@@masterofsparkshwy6974 Lol, I actually went back and watched the beginning again to see if I'd missed that vocal line before she said it. Knowing the trials and tribulations of YT music reactors, though, I'd guess they either started or fully did their reaction and then realized there was a technical difficulty (forgot to start the recording, forgot to turn on the mic, internet stuttered, computer crashed, first version of the song they picked had horrible sound quality, kids ran into the room with an issue that needed immediate solving, or whatever) and so they "recreated" the reaction in part or in full. Like you, I don't really care as I just enjoy their vibe but, tbh, I prefer when reactors are open about that sort of thing and just say, "Hey, we already started the reaction and then realized it didn't record any of our audio so we've already heard the first part of this..." or whatever. It increases viewers' trust rather than dropping a little question mark onto the authenticity of the reactions. BTW, not saying I don't think they're reactions are authentic. They're always very good about calling out when one or the other of them already knows a song beforehand. But I know some YT-ers feel like they have to cover up false starts or technical glitches and, especially with these two, I don't think that kind of thing is necessary. It's the realness that we all love even when that realness is "We just recorded our entire first-time reaction to this... and then realized that the mic wasn't on, so this is *technically* our second time hearing it. Whoopsie!"). :)

“Funkadelic” you say? That’s the name of this band and they coined the term in the ‘60s. Parliment was the more mainstream version of this outfit (think doo-wop/Motown type stuff). Funkadelic grew out of that as a way to do more outrageous and funky music. Eventually the distinctions between the two diminished and they became known as “Parliment/Funkadelic”, or even more commonly “P-Funk”. And if you hear shades of James Brown and the Ohio Players in this song, there are many good reasons why-mostly band members! George Clinton definitely changed the world of music!

Funkadelic keeps getting mentioned, it is not a genre but might as well be. Funkadelic is the other name of Parliament. Yes, one group with two different names! They recorded for two different record company labels at the same time, using the name Parliament for one and Funkadelic for the other. The y are also known as P Funk! The little sounds you mentioned was made by the keyboards played the legendary Bernie Worrell. Worrell was later a member of the expanded, The Talking Heads and contributed the funk to their sound.

Zapp's first album was produced by George Clinton, the guy in the ski goggles and white mink - so you definitely hear the connection. There is also a connection to Dee-Lite Groove is in the Heart, Bootsy Collins (former James Brown bassist) is part of the Funkadelic mob as well. George created a huge cast of characters (hence the nose on Sir Nose-Devoidoffunk whom you noticed) developed stories for many of the albums, cast them in Sci Fi scenarios and just went wild. The little noises you point out are from the great Bernie Worrell, who had to play four seperate Moog synths to produce the sounds live. I heard Parliament-Funkadelic when I was nine, beaming out of Detroit on the faint radio waves that reached me in Flint. I didn't know who the band was but 1) had never heard anything like it 2) LOVED it. And something in the back of my mind said "I wonder if this could be that crazy band who isnt a band but is also sometimes two bands...? " Pfunk was kind of a rumor in those days, the craziest things done on stage etc etc. And yes, by the way, George and them WERE kind of black hippies that were psychedelic. They have released totally psychedelic albums, were too hard rock for black audiences, too black for white audiences, George just stuck to his inspirations and invented his own sound universe and is now revered for it. This is the ORIGINAL stuff, from totally original artists. You will find George Clinton linked to Red Hot Chili Peppers, and hey, you love classic guitar solos, check out Funkadelic's Maggot Brain - THE classic psychedelic guitar solo (the whole song is a solo) played by the late, great, great Eddie Hazel (lives in my heart, and many others) Happy exploring the P Funkiverse!

I saw them live about 15 years ago and they STILL tore the roof off the place ❤️ there are so many Funk and R&B artists at that time who were so far ahead of their time. The Gap Band, Issac Hayes, Zapp and Roger, Bill Withers, Curtis Mayfield, Rick James, Ohio Players, The Chi-Lites, The Delphonics, Earth, Wind and Fire, Stevie Wonder… and so many, many more. This is what I grew up on ❤️

Now you understand why sampling funk & soul transformed hip hop from about 1988 to 1996. There were two schools, “New Jack Swing” which emphasized keyboards simple beats (especially using the TR-808 drum machine) the and “Old School” which pushed samples by James Brown, Parliament, Sly & The Family Stone, the Isley Brothers, and more,

Flashlight HITS you differently each time you listen to it due to the multitude of melodies...you find people grooving to the baseline, the melody, the lyrics, the keyboard and sooo many other riffs - and their blendings with each other. This is pure funk - so much to enjoy that each listen can be different. This song is the savant of funk....as is One Nation Under a Groove
