Heck yeah. Love that song. Wasn't there a rumor some girl got raped when they where recording it and you could hear it on the song? I don't know if there was any truth to that.

@@Herbert04 I remember the rumor except what I heard was that when they were recording the screaming on the roller coaster sounds that there was a girl on the roller coaster that was stabbed to death and that the screams you can tell that it's not a normal scream but I will have to say that I've never looked up to see if it was just an urban legend or not course that was way back in the seventies so now that we have Internet I think I'll investigate it.

You just opened a rabbit hole. They had so many great hits like "Skin Tight", "Love Roller Coaster" and "Sweet Sticky Thing". Just a great group all around. Leroy "Sugerfoot" Bonner is probably one of my favorite lead singers of all time. He's that voice you were raving about.

You guys have a lot to choose from when it comes to funk bands. Ohio Players, Parliament, Earth Wind and Fire, Sly & The Family Stone, Isley Brothers, Gap Band, Rufus/Chaka Khan, Tower of Power, Con Funk Shun, Bar-Kays, Brothers Johnson, Bootsy Collins/Bootsy's Rubber Band, and so many more.

What I find interesting about the Ohio Players is that most of their songs came from jam sessions. Hardly anyone came to the studio with anything written down. Love Rollercoaster is their most popular song. Also check out OHIO and I Wanna Be Free. P.S. Their album covers were epic! 😉

The Ohio Players are FIRE!!! Quite a few funk bands are from Ohio: The Ohio Players, Bootsy Collins, Zapp & Roger, Lakeside, The Isley Brothers Some awesome Ohio Players music: "Love Rollercoaster", "Skin Tight", "Far East Mississippi", "Fopp", and "I Want to be Free" is a nice ballad.

We partied hard to the Ohio Players back in the 70's! Other songs by them you'd love are Love Rollercoaster, Skin Tight, Sweet Sticky Thing and more. Got several of their albums and still enjoy them! Another song you'll like is I Can Understand It by New Birth! We danced all night to both groups!

This 1974 song went to #1 on the charts in 1974-75, and they had an equally good hit in '75 with "Love Rollercoaster." An equally funky funk song that y'all may have heard in movies before, at least part of it, is "Jungle Boogie" by Kool and the Gang from 1973, also the case for Brick's 1977 funk hit "Dusic" and for the Bar-Kays' 1977 funk hit "Let's Have Some Fun." For some all-female funk, try "Which Way is Up?" by Stargard from 1977. Parliament had an all-female funk spin-off group called Brides of Funkenstein, too. And Stevie Wonder put out some syrupy funk too in songs like the 1972 "Maybe Your Baby."

Dayton Ohio's Ohio Players are incredible. Below everyone has mentioned playing Love Rollercoaster and Skin Tight, but don't forget Funk-O-Nots, one of the funkiest songs ever!!!

Those of us growing up in the 70's were really blessed, weren't we? We expected music this good - because we were surrounded by it. I saw The Ohio Players in concert, as part of the Kool Jazz Festival. They brought the house down!

When these songs were new in the 1970’s I preferred uptempo Ohio Players songs like this one- “Fire” and “Love Rollercoaster.” But in 2022, I gravitate their slow jam songs like “I wanna be free,” “Heaven must be like this” and of course “Sweet sticky thing.”

I used to hear The Ohio Players practicing their songs in one of their member's house in north Dayton, Ohio. That would have been around 1977-1978. My girlfriend lived only 4 houses away and we both used to sit on her porch in the evenings and listen to OP's practice sessions. Good memories of the incredible music put out by so many back then.

Bobby Proud (voiced by Cedric the Entertainer, Arsenio Hall in the movie): Oscar's older brother, Suga Mama's eldest son, Trudy's brother-in-law and Penny, Bebe and CeCe's uncle. He is a fan of groups like Kool & The Gang among others. He sings and talks like the lead singers of the 1970s funk bands Cameo (Larry Blackmon), The Ohio Players (Sugarfoot) and The Commodores (Lionel Richie).

Back in the early 70's, the Jr. High my older sister attended held "sports nights." Kids were allowed into the gym after school for indoor sports games, snacks and off to the side a room for dancing. because she HAD to drag me around everywhere she went, I enjoyed watching her and the other kids dancing to the greatest sounds of the 70's! You could see them imitating the moves from Soul Train and so much fun watching them as they formed the Soul Train line........this song brings so much memories from then!.......not only does the Ohio Players have an amazing Funky sound, but listening to "Heaven Must be Like You" takes you to their sensual smooth side.

Thank you for a good and honest reaction. I have been a fan of the Ohio Players since 1975. Also, I do not know of a single person who can stay in a bad mood after listening to 'Fire'. The whole album is good as well. Again, thank you for your reaction. The dude in the middle on the trumpet is Marvin 'Merv' Pierce. After he left the Ohio Players, he moved to Australia and started a career in computers. The keyboard player, Billy Beck was one of my first influences (because of this song) on the keyboard/piano. I still play to this day because of Billy Beck. My church has never been the same hahaha.

I love this song. When this came out, I had such a crush on Leroy “Sugarfoot” Bonner (that first singer with the guitar. There’s a live version on here from the Midnight Special that’s fantastic, but it’s 15 minutes long. It’s worth seeing/hearing though. They were an amazing band. “Love Rollercoaster” is their other huge hit. Great stuff. 💜💜💜

The cool guy on the guitar with his fro down over his left eye is Sugar Foot. He passed away a few years ago. He was legendary in the disco/funk scene.

The gap band which you already discovered the Dazz Band , Roger, And although they’re not 100% funk but they have great music the brothers Johnson and who can forget about Rick James!!!!

In 1974 when I moved to Atlanta, I worked part time for Fulton County Stadium, and that summer get to see live and in person the Ohio players… Talk about put on a show oh my God, and the stadium was rocking. What great memories

I’m from the capital of Ohio and was about 13 or 14 when this song hit. When it came on at the roller rink we ALL hit the floor-jamming to the funk HARD! Oh the 1970s. Peace ✌️

A friend of mine worked for the Players on their road crew back in the mid 70s when they were peaking. The group was from Dayton Ohio which is not far from where I live. Check out "Skin Tight" or "Love Rollercoaster" too. These guys were exceptional musicians who earned their fame and fortune by working hard for a long time. They deserved to make it.

There must have been something funky in the water in the Cincinnati area back in the day -- the Isley Brothers, the Ohio Players, Roger Troutman and his brothers, Bootsy Collins from Funkadelic, the Deele, and Slave were all from that area. Check out the Ohio Players' "I Want to Be Free" (a heartbreak song that the lead singer can't explain without breaking up decades later), "Skintight" (smooth jazzy funk), and my favorite "Jive Turkey."

The BEST song of this era is Hollywood Swinging by Kool and the Gang. Super funky! And don’t forget about the Whispers - Tonight and Keep on Loving Me are two of their best. So fun!

I bought this album without knowing a single song on it because I’d already worn out their Skin Tight album. Soon as I heard that siren I loved this song! Other Ohio Players songs you might like: Skin Tight, Jive Turkey, Love Rollercoaster, Heaven Must Be Like This (slow jam), and even some “sermons”: Is Anybody Gonna Be Saved, and Running From The Devil. I’ve already warned you about the long back-to-back slow dance songs It’s Your Night / Words Of Love unless you want to give Luca a baby brother. 😆😉

Hell ya!! I was a teen ager during their era. This was played in All the clubs, in every neighborhood. The Gap Band...Dropped a Bomb. A MUST listen!!!

A phenomenally unique voice (no one can touch his heartache) can be found in jazz icon Jimmy Scott. Anything from Holding Back the Years (1999), including the title track or The Crying Game, Nothing Compares 2 U, his take on John Lennon’s Jealous Guy, or Bernie Taupin/Elton John’s Sorry Seems to be the Hardest Word.

Please check out "Everything I Own" by Bread. He wrote it for his father who'd passed away. Get the tissues!! It's a beautiful tribute to his dad.

"Heaven Must Be Like This", one of my fav cuts from the group. "O H I O", soo many cuts from this group. You can go on fo-eva with these guys. Yeah, and Sugarfoot's hair, that hair!!! Soundtrack of my childhood fo sho!
