I remember Anthem created a bump in the subwoofer frequency down low after calibration with your JTR. Is that still happening? Also, how do you use the LFA knob on your JTR in regards to Anthem ARC Genesis? Do you set it somewhere and leave it there, or do you run ARC setting the LFA to a lower value and then after ARC you bump it up? Thanks

Great video as usual! AVM90, I agree is the best choice for a premium Processor period. Has everything, including killer looks. I had a NAD 17v2 Processor, a $10,000.00 unit. Sounded phenomenal, well built, with a minimalist style. The user interface, ....well,..... Fred Flintstone design comes to mind. The Anthem is leagues ahead. Great choice on the second AVM90....just need to fill in that desolate, empty theater room!! The AVM90 needs some friends to play with!!😂😂

I tried the AVM70 and agree with most of what you're saying. It sounded great, once I got past some initial issues. I think ARC Genesis was probably not quite refined yet at the time, so I'd expect the issues I had to be resolved by now. What caused me to ultimately switch was the OSD which, frankly, I found completely unacceptable for a product in this class. The web UI does offer an alternative but that just wasn't practical for my setup. I ultimately chose the Marantz AV10 and have been happy, but you've got yourself a best of a processor too. Congrats!

In this level of proc you should consider Lyndorf’s MP-40. It has less inputs and less channels compared to AVM90, albeit still supports 7.1.4, but it’s in a class I feel cut above for sound quality. Basically same quality as MP60 and McIntosh MX180.

I would be very curious on your thoughts of the AVM90 vs. Dirac and the Arcam AV41?
@SpecOfTech
@SpecOfTech 5 ай бұрын
Keep in mind I have minimal experience with the AV41. IMO, the AVM90 sounds better. It's not night and day by no means, but there is some slightly better channel separation, sound separation and just overall more preferable sound IMO. Bass management depends on preference. I know some who prefer DLBC and some that prefer ARC for bass management. Honestly, they both do a great job, it's splitting hairs for consumers. Looks, functionality, usability and overall user experience, the AVM90 wins it for me personally. I'm sure there are some that would disagree, but I am comfortable saying that the majority of users would prefer the AVM90 for overall usability.
@adamjj85
@adamjj85 5 ай бұрын
@@SpecOfTechThanks for the input. Yeah I get it. I have the SDP-58 which is the JBL brand of the AV41. I have no complaints. I chose to go DLBC over ARC but am still curious about Anthem as they were a close contender. It also has the Auro upmixer as an additional option whereas Anthem doesn't and Arcam/JBL offers 4 sub outs at a lower price point than AVM90. But Anthem definitely has a better UI and if you think AVM90 is still worth it that's great praise. I wish there were more definitive ARC vs. Dirac reviews out there.

Monolith HTP1 does everything Anthem does, but more. BassEQ built in, can load 6 dirac profiles for fast switching, input voltage adjustability for matching amps, 5 subwoofer outputs. All that and it's cheaper, sound quality is great on the unit. Direct ART is coming as well as DTX pro hopefully soon
@SpecOfTech
@SpecOfTech 5 ай бұрын
They're both great units and it depends on your needs, but saying the HTP-1 "does more" is not necessarily true. The HTP-1 does not have HDMI 2.1 for 4K 120hz gaming or 8K 60hz, the AVM90 does. The AVM90 supports Imax Enhanced, the HTP-1, no sir. The AVM90 supports VRR, I don't think the HTP-1 does. The AVM90 supports ALLM, I can't find anything about the HTP-1 supporting it. The AVM90 supports Chromecast audio, the HTP-1, nope. The AVM-90 supports Tidal connect, HTP-1, don't think so. The AVM90 supports Apply Airplay, the HTP-1, pretty sure nope. The AVM90 supports Spotify connect, the HTP-1...sorry nope. At least I can't find any information on that the HTP-1 supports what I just listed. My point is that your statement about the HTP-1 doing more, is in the eye of the beholder. It may do more of what you want, but the AVM90 does more of what I want. It's all subjective of course. Thanks for watching.

Four times we attempted anthem. I have had AVM 70 4k then felt the upgrade need for the 90 but could not justify keeping it, then returned to 70 8k version, then sold it after comparing Denon 4700h in pre amp mode. Just over Christmas I picked up the 70 8k again because I miss the users options available on anthem. However every one in the family prefers the Denon because there is no handshake issues. Anthem losses sound for 2-3secs with each commercial that comes on cable TV. I want to love the anthem after 4 attempts but D&M maybe superior to Anthem when looking at a processor that is bug free. And sound quality of newer D&M are very close especially in preamp mode. You should try it
@SpecOfTech

Sorry to hear you had some issues. It sounds to me like it needed a firmware update. Did you ever conduct an update using the units screen itself? Or did you only ever update via the WebUI? I don't have any handshake issues, and sound comes on quickly after it forms its initial handshake. I can say it is worlds faster than something like Emotiva anyway. Denon and Marantz are known to work with minimal hiccups also, but I feel like Anthem is getting close as long as you are running the most up to date firmware. I did have the Marantz AV7706 processor and compared it to the AVM70, the AVM70 won hands down. I can only imagine the AVM90 would outperform the rest as well. Hi Barrett, I am wondering if you could comment on RMC you had vs AVM90. You mentioned that you were particularity impressed by John Wick scene where when he pulls and cocks his gun and then shoots through the glass. Clarity of glass breaking and general reverberation due to acoustics of the underground pool etc. This aspects can be clearly heard in your Emo vs AVM70 comparison in favour of Emotiva. I know that you did not do direct comparison of AVM90 to RMC but from your memory does AVM90 reaches the same crispness and reverberation in that scene? I am close to pulling the trigger on AVM90 but this ability of my XMC-2 to pull this reverberation, low level detail retrieval and airiness is something that I would tremendously miss if it would be not to the same or higher standard with AVM90 as it tells about base level performance of the audio processor. I would imagine that Emotiva is able to pull it off in on hardware level as it is fully differential topology while AVM90 is single ended (and converted to fake balanced). BTW do you use your AVM90 with balanced or single ended cables? I am asking as AVM90 measures better in SE mode as it does not require further manipulation to convert signal to (fake) balanced? Hopefully the above does not read as any sort of attack on AVM90 - contrary I have such high regards for the brand and it's processors that I am willing to fork out almost 3 times more on it to replace my XMC-2. I am just trying to understand if it is truly better sounding in all aspects, or is it maybe only comparable and trading blows and one of the (small / tiny / not so tiny?) sacrifices I could potentially be making would be overall impact and detail and reverberation on example of John Wick scene. If at all possible would really appreciate your reply as I have opportunity to get AVM90 that will not last for long.
@SpecOfTech
@SpecOfTech 2 ай бұрын
That's a tough question because I never did a direct comparison of them. I do believe that the RMC was pretty much on par with the AVM90 when it came to clarity and detail retrieval. Where the AVM90 absolutely abolishes the RMC is in its user friendliness and smooth functionality. Once you start using the web UI, you will love it. I'm not sure the sound quality is that much better to where you would notice much of a difference in just the clarity and detail retrieval. The one aspect that I find the AVM90 performed better is in it's smoothness. The RMC sounded very clinical and sharp around the edges, the AVM90 had a more refined sound, hard to put into words. I definitely prefer the AVM90 for music for that reason, its more real, less digital in a way, if that makes sense. Hope that helps...cheers.

@@SpecOfTech it does help a lot. Thank you for coming back to me on such a short notice. Really appreciate it. I since came across instances of AVM90 blasting pink noise like at full volume and destroying amps and tweeters in the process, which got me worried about my speakers which would be near impossible to repair. Have to think about it but might wait for gen 4 of Emotiva. Maybe just maybe that will be the time when they finally nail the software :)

Pretty sure all the 16+ channel processors can do 4+ independent subwoofers. Can’t remember if the Emotiva could when I had it but even if it can it can’t calibrate them. But the Monolith, Marantz and all the Herman’s can do 4 or more and can calibrate them.
@SpecOfTech
@SpecOfTech 5 ай бұрын
Monolith HTP-1 shows 3 subwoofer outputs, Emotiva is 3 also, the Tonewinner at300 is 3 subwoofer outs, AVM70 is 2 subwoofer outs etc. Yes I agree, there are others that have 4 subwoofer outs like Arcam AV41 and Marantz AV10, but that's why I said in the video, the AVM90 is one of very few that has 4 subwoofer outs. At least one of very few below 10k.

I purchased the AVM90 and ended up returning it. It did sound good but in my opinion not worth the price. Maybe my ears are not what they used to be or my setup is not good enough to benefit from this processor. Something that will probably be small to others but is a big for me is the remote response. Turning the volume up or down with a remote is painfully slow an not responsive.

Thank you for your amazing work. For 500$ less and having Auro 3D and Dtsx pro how do you think AV10 fares? I hope Anthem lives upto its promise to the customers of delivering Dtsx pro, it’s kind of disappointing that they are taking this long to do it, what are your thoughts about it?

Honestly, I mostly use Atmos tracks and I only have a 7.2.4 channel system. DTSX Pro doesn't benefit the listener unless they have more than 11 speaker channels, not including subwoofers. I think Anthem will eventually release DTSX Pro based on their promise. It is a little disappointing to see they haven't released it yet. I would probably be more upset about it if I had more than 11 speaker channels haha.

@@junior-OG It was released in March of 2022, we are coming up on 2 years since release. Although I agree, they need to release what they promised. That said, I'll take stable unit with stable firmware and webui like the AnVM90 over some of the other buggy units with Roon and DTSX pro any day of the week. Honestly, I don't know a single person who uses Roon including myself, and you will only benefit from DTSX Pro if you have more than 11 speakers. I don't have over 11 speakers, so DTSX Pro isn't important to me personally.
