So how did Ireland cut Wales apart? | Six Nations 2022

Squidge Rugby

2 жыл бұрын

A brand new year with the same old story. The Aviva Stadium remains a depressing cauldron for Wales to play in, as Ireland dominated Wayne Pivac's side 29-7 in Dublin. So, how did Ireland strangle Wales, and just why do Girls Aloud remain the standard-setters in pop music?
If you've enjoyed any of the channel's content, you can also support Squidge Rugby on Patreon by visiting / squidgerugby , so I can bet on Scotland winning next weekend.

Hey squidge, Irish fan here, and I just wanted to thank you for all the work you've done over the past few years covering the games. I hope you aren't burning yourself out striving to cover all the 6N games and also wanted to say that as an Irish fan I've never felt that your analysis has been biased against us in any way, you've always been exceptionally in-depth and often a lot less doom-saying than our own pundits. Yes, I'd often disagree with your team of the year picks, but thats as subjective as one can get. Anyway, thanks again for all the great content ;)

I absolutely love the enthusiasm squidge still puts into videos. Like could you imagine any sports channel doing a recap of the game that doesn't talk about the yellow card? It would be so much easier to provide a bit of commentary or opinion about an obvious moment like that, but he always digs so much deeper to show what's going through teams collective heads and it's great.

Well assuming they have some more tricks up their sleeves they might make it past the first knockout round. But we’ve said this kind of thing before and they never have. So I wouldn’t put any money on it. I don’t see them winning the World Cup anytime soon but anything is possible. They do need to be able to win the games that really count and outside of the six nations I’ve never seen them do that.

Outstanding breakdown once again which is no surprise. I’ve watched a few breakdowns on KZfaq now and I’m amazing nobody has spoken about the massive smile of Liam Williams face when Aki scores his try. It's very League-esque isn't it, the attacking patterns of Farrell's Ireland. Simple, but reliably effective for it. Great stuff as ever, Squidge! Well observed points regarding the attacking plays Ireland are running - blocker plays, block lines etc as the leagies know them. Pure RL. But as noted in the video the timings and lines run by the lead runners must be just right. The lead runners must run inwards to trap defenders. The ball carrier must play late, taking the ball to the line, and be in synch with the lead runner so the pass could convincingly go to the lead but actually goes to the trail/sweep runner. This draws defenders to both ball carrier and lead runner and prevents them drifting to cover wider. The point about the Irish 11 is well made. To be able to run multiple block shapes in the same play requires not just lead runners knowing what they are doing but sweep runners who can themselves take the ball to the line in sych with a lead etc. NRL teams do this stuff like shelling peas but they have done it since they were nippers. Not so most RU players so it takes some learning. Great to see Ireland making good progress here. To see it done super well watch NRL highlights.

Im glad to see you ripping our tactics to shreds and exposing how poor we are in many aspects, with a platform as big as yours surely this will put way more pressure on the coaches to perform to the standard we know we can play

as you know Josh van der Flier was born in Wicklow, Leinster. His surname is courtesy of his Dutch grandparents, who moved to Ireland in the 1950s.

Any Irish supporter who brands Squidge as having an anti Irish bias needs to cop on. Best rugby channel on the KZfaq .. and completely unbiased. Keep up the amazing work lad.

The breakdown is lot easier when your forwards are making gain line carriers. Wales forwards were getting smashed backwards. That’s the massive point your missing.

I'd agree with that. Smashing, then offloading. Porter and Furlong have a bit more confidence going forward than most.

Josh van der Flier has Dutch heritage, not South African. But part of me thinks that Squidge already knows this and is trying to rile Irish fans up.
