Four years ago, Japan pulled off what is commonly referred to as The Brighton Miracle as they beat South Africa in a heroic performance. On Saturday, Japan may. have just done it again as they downed the team so recently world number one, Ireland. So how did they do it, and should this be considered a miracle at all?

I have never seen so many Irish people. They play a game by rolling a rugby ball on a Japanese subway. They also sing in front of convenience stores and shoulder Japanese police officers.I liked the lyrics and melody of the Irish national anthem. I practice on KZfaq.

That was a brilliant analysis young fella.... I am off to watch your Vimeo video,,,, Notwithstanding the rugby.... I am a Welshman living in Japan...Have done so for almost 20 years now....Last weekend was stressful in this house... My wife Japanese,,,,me, a Neath boy - ish!! I have felt for a while that Japan had the ability and game to beat Irelands somewhat static game... Watching the game, my wife turned almost Mediterranean!! I have never seen here more animated...Well yes I have... but she was screaming at the screen... I told her to calm down,,,Japan will do it,,,,Fast forward to Sunday....It was me screaming at the screen and her, learning new Anglo-saxon and Welsh curse words! As always young fella,,,,,Good video!

After the AB game, and coupled with Hansen and Jones saying they were evolving their teams attack to counter the rush defence, Schmidt change Ireland's gameplan. The rush defence is fundamental to Ireland's style of rugby - play by numbers. It's absurd to expect the team to change the way they play, without the necessary tactical player changes. It's too little and too late I'm afraid. Like 2015, the All Blacks are building to the finals, and will most likely unveil the full extent of their changes in the QFs, against Ireland. And, based on 2015, I'm expecting Ireland will not make the semi finals. Yip, I think Japan will top pool A, because they have been building for this all year, and subconsciously, at least 3 years.

Conor Murray was pinged four times for being offside , on video analysis he was on side three times . World rugby accepted that the ref was wrong in those cases , not to mention the other decisions. From a financial point of view it is very important that the home nation stays in the tournament as long as possible . Kind of missed that in your analysis.

Schmidt has given Ireland all the tools to win games and tournaments. So much so that I think they got comfortable just relying on their ability and systems. But to win test matches, sometimes you need aggression and even a level of violence. Ireland used to summon it up regularly as they were lacking elsewhere. If their confidence isn’t too battered by the 1/4 I’m sure they’ll be massively fired up and winning collisions and upping the work rate around the ruck might see a far higher level of performance. I’m sure Joe won’t let his final game as coach be a meek exit. 🤞
@stuartkelly3106

Outstanding analysis at the end. I think if Ireland played Joe ball they would have comfortably beat them. Does Schmidt have something up his sleeve? I feel he does and he has been thinking of Ireland v SA (hopefully) since the awful loss by Argentina 4 years ago. Hold your opinion about Ireland until after the QFs I think you will see the true Ireland then....

@cigh7445
@cigh7445 4 жыл бұрын
He wasn't good in the Argentina France game, I thought he was alright here. There were three wrong calls confirmed against Ireland after the match, and none against Japan, but two of them were called by the linesman. You gotta allow for human error I guess. I don't think there was any foul play on the officials side, I'd say the atmosphere and energy in the place got to them a bit. Sure those calls were momentum killers for Ireland and the score could have been different, but then again, maybe not. Japan matched them on the night, so call it home advantage.
@robingentleman2574
@robingentleman2574 4 жыл бұрын
Gardner had a really poor game. (Full disclosure, I'm Irish but living in Japan 27 years and delighted that Japan played so well and won against a much vaunted Irish team.... BUT, the ref allowed them to stay offside the whole game and unfairly thwart any Irish attack from the ruck, and then penalized ireland unfairly... to be clear, this is NOT sour grapes, Japan were good enough to win anyway and deserved it, but would much rather they had won without the help of the ref, that spoiled it a bit for me)

Does anyone else think Japan could make it to the semi-finals of a world cup before Ireland do? They'll easily make it to quarters. Then they just have to beat either Wales or Australia. Its totally possible especially if they're against Wales. Heck Wales are 9th in the world and Japan are 10th and there isn't a big gap between them. But the amount of prep Japan do for the RWC since they don't have 6 nations means they have the edge. Is it more possible than Ireland facing Scotland and SA and then either beating NZ or France on home soil? Who knows
