Tinker Bell is (probably) one of the top 5 most iconic Disney characters. And despite how much people love her, thanks to a very vocal minority, the Tink we love might be on her way out. Is it even possible to CANCEL Tinker Bell? Let's see what nonsense our friends at Disney are cooking!

Tinkerbell's jealousy was never glorified and she actively gets captured due to it. It's why in the sequel she gets more mellow and develops a cute friendship with Wendy's daughter. Plus she's based on European fairies, who are notorious tricksters that are territorial of their property.

Actually fairy depictions similar to Tinkerbell's are one of the billion depictions of what a fairy looks like. Most European fairies dont look pretty or have wings. Some can be down right terrifying. The dullahan of Irish folklore, for example, is a fairy. Sure it looks like a headless horseman riding a headless horse while whipping a human spine but its a type of fairy. Just not the Tinkerbell type. Actually fairies can go in tagent with beings such as elves, trolls, goblins, nymphs and even mermaids.
@MikeFireheart

@@haven_lady675 That's true as there's many different versions of fairies and creatures similar to fairies. My personal favorite fairies or fae are from Irish folklore as you mentioned. Leprechauns and the Dark Fairy Queen are ones that I find fascinating. Though Tinkerbell is based on the description from the original writer of Peter Pan, so he clearly was drawing inspiration from a specific type of possessive yet beautiful fairy.

The overcorrection needs to stop. I genuinely think that modern writers don't want to write characters but rather actions. Good guys do good things. Bad guys do bad things. No characterization. They're not people, just toys to play with as they please. Anyone that acted like a person is considered problematic as a result. To keep to topic, compare the Tinkerbells.🛠 The original felt like a person, albeit a rather explosive one. The Pixie Hollow one felt mellowed out, but could make mistakes and needed others to help her. The live action one was just... there. It's not just Disney, but they're definitely the easiest to see at a glance.

So were Snow white and Cinderella I believe. They at least hired women to be filmed as reference footage for all three of those movies. It was an essential part of Walt Disney's process for creating "the illusion of life" as he called it, and avoiding the rubber looking limbs that many cartoon characters like Betty Book had before then. But it could be argued that they might not have stuck close to the reference. But with how they look I severely doubt they changed much.

@humblearts-3115
@humblearts-3115 Ай бұрын
This whole "let's change the character to satisfy modern audiences" thing makes me think back to the situation with Ariel meeting a mute mermaid comes to mind. Everyone loved that. We already loved Ariel, and now there also was another mermaid character to love. That route is twice the fun for fans and also more profitable to corporations (because more merch, yay!). I don't know where the idea comes from that only already popular characters can be used to bring about awareness and diversity. Excecutives forget the influencal power these characters hold. Changing the character is likely to push away the fans and hurt their cause, but using that character to direct the audience's attention to a new character has high chances of success. If Disney cares so much about body issues, they should have Tinker Bell interact with fairies of various body types, or have her gain a little weight and show her friends' various responses to it and give a little lesson about what's appropriate and what's not when discussing other people's bodies and your own. It's really not that hard. But my guess is that it's cheaper to redesign one character model than to design 10 different ones for a show (still, Disney, think of the merch!)

hi, i got this video in my recommended and just wanted to say the middle part of this isn’t exactly true. i appreciate you correcting the misinformation about her park appearances- snopes has a great article about everything else (though they’re not perfect and neither is disney, obviously). her wdw meet and greet just seems to never have been reinstated after the pandemic reopening, which happened to a lot of entertainment offerings and is likely not specific to her, nor was it a recent thing. i think all they’ve done lately is just remove further signage mentioning her from that area since she hasn’t been there for a few years now, and reports on that were then warped by clickbait/misinformation into this whole issue. also, the quote from the disney employee talking about her being ‘problematic’ is false (there are obvious grammar mistakes in it and there’s no confirmed source other than someone just posting a quote saying ‘disney rep’). disney has confirmed this themselves. like you said, she’s still a huge presence and doesn’t seem to be going anywhere, except where the park-wide budget cuts are concerned. thank you for reading all this!! i’m a huge parks person so i just wanted to make sure everyone has the proper info so we can critique them based on confirmed stuff like starcruiser instead, haha

It was honestly the quote that bothered me the most because I 100% can see someone at Disney saying that. But I also acknowledged that there was a chance that a Disney Rep didn't actually say that which was why I said they "allegedly" said that. Although, that tweet wasn't the only evidence I found that someone at Disney sees Tink as problematic (it's in one of those links I included in the description). Regardless, I'd like to think that, yes, Tink is too popular for them to try to mess her up (further. Since, ya know, her depiction in Peter Pan and Wendy was awful). @user-li2yv5je5e??? i’m not a disney pr person, i have my own problems with them like everyone else. i don’t know why i would be trying to cover up anything. i just think we don’t need to criticize them based on false information, which that quote is, and with a portion of the video specifically covering it i wanted to point it out. yes, there is still confirmed news of tink being a ‘cautioned’ character, but this was back in 2019 and obviously they haven’t done anything major with her since then aside from being in that crappy straight to streaming live action remake, which never impacted her original characterization in the parks anyway, so i don’t see why it’s become such a big deal. people are trying to make this into something more so they can point the ‘woke’ finger at disney when if you’re someone who knows the parks, a meet and greet still not coming back in 2024 doesn’t even seem like news at all. signage changes and scalebacks are just another day at this point. how does them keeping one meet and greet closed in one park mean she’s being ‘cancelled’ and ‘fixed’ if, like this video also says, she still has her own dedicated area in disneyland, still flies over the castle after fireworks, still has merch and parade appearances, etc.? the citizens of hollywood streetmosphere performers also never returned to the hollywood studios park after reopenings. does that mean disney thinks they’re problematic? or do they just not want to spend any more money on an entertainment department that has clearly been majorly scaled back since 2020?

I think it's funny that Tinkerbell is supposedly problematic, yet they still raceswapped her into essentially a submissive black girl who has Wendy speak for her in the reboot. Honestly, Tinkerbell's temper and jealousy was relatable, since we've all had those emotions, so stripping her of them and now low key removing her from an attraction is eye rolling.

Constantly trying to appease everyone and follow all the rules, leaves me with an empty canvas and annoyance. Sorry about the weird pome thing above. Not entirely sure where that came from, lol. I agree with you on the whole changing pre existing characters thing. The more we work towards changing things for "Modern audiences." The more we avoid being genuine and honest with our work. Tinkerbell is a Disney icon, she’s a mascot almost as much as Mickey Mouse is! I hope they come to their senses and bring back meet and greets for her in WDW. My family got to go see her twice when visiting Disney Parks, and she was absolutely lovely. The Disney fairies were my favourite face characters when I was little, and they’re still close to my heart. Removing Tink just because of her role in the original movie she appeared in is concerning. I’m afraid they’ll completely sand away anything that made me love her in the first place. I had a temper when I was little, and she was a relatable character for me! And it’s not up to DISNEY to parent people’s kids for them. If kids are imitating Tinkerbell’s less admirable personality traits, it’s up to the PARENTS to correct that. It’s not Disney’s job to sanitize their characters and remove any nuance. Free my girl, Disney! 🛠️

"Tinkerbell, unfortunately, has become an problematic image for our guests... in portrayal of an unrealistic body image as well as dependency of approval and/ or attention from Peter Pan... We feel these traits are no longer representative of our inclusive focused values..." Here is the thing: If you are trying to be inclusive, the fact that many girls do hanker after male approval is a truth to include. And the girls who do so should also be included. Maybe, we could tell stories in such a way as to show this hankering isn't wise, but it still is a truth to recon with. This is also where Hollywood wokeism differ from the actual feminism which got women the vote and the right to have their own bank account: Hollywood wokeness try to tell stories as if women always do the same things men does. Actual feminists try to work against oppression in a world where many girls and women do what Tinkerbell does.

Unlike the new live action those movies were actually good and fun to watch as a kid and I still have a soft spot for them. Also I relate to where you said that you would avoid a cartoon if the art style is just not appealing to you, it's the same with me. Also if disney really has this mindset that female characters like Tink are problematic then it dosen't make me hopeful for any of their upcoming female protagonist movies in the future.

I’ve seen this trend of “realistic bodies” quite a bit, but it’s honestly just having the opposite be the new unrealistically skinny. Engaging in harmful physical behaviors so you can achieve a thin body that can cause serious health issues is bad. Engaging in harmful physical behaviors so you become much larger that can cause serious health issues is also bad. Both extremes are not healthy. There are some people that are naturally thinner and some people that are naturally thicker; and as you said healthy can look different for each person. I can at least see the argument that everyone in a series drawn with the same proportions can be harmful as it could be seen as the expected, but at the same time, it could simply be style, or easier to animate, or just fiction. Also, yes, I believe in the original Peter Pan book, the pixies/fairies could only experience one emotion at a time due to their small form. So when Tink felt jealousy or anger, that’s all she could physically handle and feel at that time. I haven’t seen the animated movie in years, but I don’t think it was as obvious of a trait in it and that’s why it seemed so extreme without a proper explanation. could be wrong, again it’s been a while. 🛠

My mom and I agree that people tend to be overdramatic whenever Disney does something controversial; it’s like, “So?”. Not about the major stuff. Things like plot holes, and problematic characters. As a matter of fact, Dumbo’s pink elephant sequence didn’t phase me as a kid, and I don’t drink at all (33 as of posting this). While she’s not my favorite character, Tinkerbell has a right to remain as she is depicted in role in “Peter Pan” and “Peter Pan: Return to Neverland”. Honestly, while not in the role of protagonist, Disney had already did have women who were no so skinny but did have a positive role: the Three Good Fairies from “Sleeping Beauty” back in 1959, as well as the Fairy Godmother in “Cinderella” in 1950. I know other problems are there, but they aren’t overly exaggerated.

So when i think someone needs to go out and socialize more, that should be a slap in the face to people who think Tink needs to be banned. *Deep breath* appologies if i was at all rude during this rant. As long as the media and the people interacting (or their guardians) with it take some care in how they interact with those ideas or themes, there shouldn't be too many issues. It's definitely more complicated than that and differs from person to person, but I think it's a good foundation that people can keep in mind to figure out what works for them.

Thank you for addressing the fact that in the original source material, fairies are so small they can only feel one emotion at a time, and it completely possesses them. It's so OBVIOUS, but the Disney DEI team don't want to hear it. They just don't like that she has an unrealistic body -- _when she's right alongside a boy who can FLY._ Nothing in animated movies is supposed to be perfectly realistic!! That's the point of doing it animated instead of live action! So you can make characters and situations come to life that would be impossible in real life!! Also, just the fact that she is possessed by one emotion at a time is such a great teaching moment for kids! Kids can also be like that! When they're angry, they're little RAGE MONSTERS, and really believe that they've never been so angry in their _entire life._ You can use Tink as an _example_ of how NOT to react when you feel that way! Also, 12:02 -- YES girl. Mood.

On the topic of Tinkerbell and being put on hold at the parks, I DO know some walk characters in the parks are being put on hold due (including Tink) due to too many incidents of actors getting assaulted by visitors and sadly the Tinkerbell actors have been victims on several occasions. There's also been huge budget cuts / lay offs on their actors to from what I was told by friend who works for Disneyland. :( With some of the mis-info/rumors as mentioned by Fusetunes, there has been a steady rise of mis-info and false rumors with Disney for rage bait accounts, Mousetrap is best example, and I see way too many people take joke stuff at face value and this rumor IIRC is one of them. Hating on Disney has always been a hot topic tho even with false, but there's also a lot real stuff to dislike about the company nowadays. I'm just hoping animation fans can more good ORIGINAL animated movies in general. I always had a complicated love/hate with the original Peter Pan movie since I always disliked the racist depictions of American Indians (Im part native), but I also love the movie Hook, and my late mom was obsessed with Tinkerbell. I found the biggest issue with the original movie was the racist depictions/plot is the huge issue with the first film, but I doesn't mean I'm going to force people to not watch it.
