She gives her friends expensive gifts, then they start tossing around her phone which could get her fired 🔥 ! ‘Unsupportive Boyfriend” works in a restaurant which is a 24/7 job & he has the nerve to shade Andy for putting in extra hours for her job ? Shitty Boyfriend, Shitty friends. Have lunch with Emily- dump the others & start dating Christian- who did you favors without asking questions, is cuter & tried to introduce you to Magazine editors to look at your articles. You’re sooo much better than your “friends” By the way did Nate ask you about taking his job in Boston ? Me thinks NOT. #HateNate 🙀

I actually understand both sides. We are seeing it from the point of view of Andrea. We don't know what her bf or friends have been feeling or thinking. It's not their POV. I'm thinking from their perspective, she made fun of these people and turn to one of them and abandoned them for a job that she doesnt even want in the first place.
@SaGeForReal
@SaGeForReal 2 жыл бұрын
@@lovablecharacter8167 exactly! I see both sides of the story too! There’s a two sides of every story and tbh..not only did her friends and Nate see the perks of her job. They also heard her multiple times being stressed or complaining about her job too. They saw her being consumed by this job and Andy wanting to prove to Miranda that she can handle the pressure and job. That desire of Andy wanting to prove her worth also caused her to spend less time with her family, friends, and Nate. So of course they would be concerned about her well-being. Should they have been more understanding? Maybe…but again as you said.. this movie was in the perspective of Andy. We only see a few scenes and moments with her family, friends, and boyfriend. But even that in itself was proof that she was slowly becoming someone that she honestly doesn’t want to be. The life that Miranda has is not want Andy wanted and that was obvious throughout the whole movie.

to explain the last scene, miranda saw Andrea but kept her ice queen exterior in front of her, only when she was in the car out of view from her did she smile which shows us the audience that despite Miranda's icy treatment of Andrea she has a fondness/respect for her even after she quit because as she said Andrea reminds her of herself and she respected Andreas integrity to not continue working with her after not agreeing with Miranda's actions even if she didn't allow Andrea to see that

I would also like the add that (in my opinion) Miranda sees a different Andrea and it was all in the flick of her hair. Throughout everything Andrea had been through, she saw that Andrea grew to respect Runway and Miranda and even though she walked away from fashion. Miranda could see her influence. Andrea carries herself different, has new sense of style and takes pride in her appearance.

That proves you don't need to be loud to be scary and intimidating. Miranda is firm, direct and collected. Knowledgeable, logical, strategic and decisive. She knows everything about fashion and her work which makes her competent. That's why she is intimidating to many people. But for some who recognise all these traits, like Nigel, Andrea and Emily, she is respected.

The move was actually partially written by the ex assistant of Anna Wintour, the current editor in chief of the American Vogue magazine. It is based on her experiences as her assistant. The office in the movie is actually almost identical to the actual Vogue headquarters in New York. Several former employees have confirmed that Anna Wintour is actually a lot like depicted in the movies. Some things are exaggerated they say, such as that she would never throw her coats on the table, but most of the things are supposedly spot on. Her former assistant revealed that Anna actually ordered them to get the newest Harry Potter book for her children before the book came out. Her assistants also always pick up her clothes from the dry cleaner every single day to bring it to her town house. And if someone is unprepared, they'll usually get fired. Vogue is known for having an extremely disciplined and toxic work environment.

Anna Wintour has said she has very high standards and pushes people to be the best they can be. She wants the best possible team working for her, which I understand, but it seems she's failed to learn that you're not going to get the best out of people when you treat them with zero respect and punish them severely for any little mistake. You're not giving them a chance to grow, and leading by fear.

Teenager years : Miranda is the ultimate devil. Adulthood : Nate and her friends are the real shitheads. Glad you liked it, and even without fashion knowledge, it still conveys another message about supporting one’s partner or friends’ career choices. Her boyfriend and friends did not even try to understand what she was going through, made fun of her for starting to like fashion and understanding the industry (while getting free designer bags), even though she still claimed she was working there only for a year. It’s a bit understandable they would be puzzled, but they bashed her because they did not like what she was becoming, evolving in a world they did not esteem to be interesting.

You mean psuedo adulthood. Miranda still is a devil if you think she is a reasonable boss , she is worse than ellen. They made fun of her for liking fashion cause she has being doing that before, all the negative views they have about the industry is cause of her and then she flips on them, she was more clear about all the complaints that she had about the industry than why she suddenly liked it. The bad thing is an obvious hypocrisy. And most of what you say is true about the friends but not nate, he was just puzzled by her sudden flip, and the person she was becoming which wasn't who he was in a relationship with. Nate main gripe was their relationship was detoriating cause they were spending less time with one another and seemed less interested in the relationship. Which if you didn't know and this is how i know you aren't an adult is the main reason for a lot of relationship to fall apart is the partner prioritises other things above the relationship.

Nate and her friends = the true villains of this film. Oh, because she started taking her job seriously and discovered she had more of a knack for it than she or any of them thought, she's now some awful person? Fuck each and every one of them. The only legit criticism was Lily chided Andy for entertaining Christian's flirtations. Though even then, it's her business. The ending was bullshit.

Yeah I like that Andy found herself but her apologizing... I've understood if boyfriend apologized back, but not like it shown in a movie. Yep. But Lily was really judgy. As a best friend just be like "what's going on? Are you two having problems?" instead of flipping out on them. All the friends were pretty judgmental. At the beginning of the movie, they mention Andy having no choice but to interview for this job so she was desperate. And that usually means it's either positions like that or having to take something that pays even less like a fast food job for awhile until you can get something better. In that case she'd probably still having to work 80 hours a week just to scrape by on her half of the rent. Which is what a lot of people have to do. It doesn't mean they're a sell out or ignoring friends/family. Plus, she was hanging out with her friends sometimes so that whole argument for her turning her backs on them makes no sense anyways. As for Nate, he 100% played the victim while his job, as a sous chef would require him to work odd hours including early mornings and late nights. So it's like he's saying it's okay for him but not for her.

Yeah, the whole "And what did I do it for?" "Shoes. And shirts." No, Nate. She was like growing into a direction THEY didn't like but she was extremely good at and they weren't supportive for even a single second. And Nate-....my good I could just really throw up into his face when he told her at the end of the movie about HIS career, like "bragging" about being the new chef or something, after he CONSTANTLY belittled hers and talked negatively about it. He's just a self-centered pr*ck and her friends are useless. xDD Sorry for the little rant here. I just really would have LOVED the movie to just skip the last scene with her and Nate and just jump right to the end after Miranda smiled in the car after she saw Andy.

A lot of people miss that the boyfriend is totally the antagonist in this movie and not Miranda. When Andie starts going full into her new job and actually start to like it he's being an unsupportive whiny child about it because he can't accept her growing and changing. Same with the best friend who is happy to accept pricy bags to just minutes later give Andie crap about being on call at all times. It's that kind of job and a year isn't very long. The boyfriend birthday thing is so stupid as well, she had a chance to meet the f-ing editor for the New York Times and since the douchebag was trying to get into her pants she could count on a good intro as well and it's like "no my kindergarden boyfriend needs me to celebrate his birthday". He's a chef ffs, if someone should be understanding of working ones ass off it should be him. The unnamed friend is supportive and nice but we barely see him so it doesn't really matter. A year of hard work to have an oppurtunity to really take a leap in a super competitive carreer should be an absolute no brainer for them as a couple to go yeah, no matter how many missed dinners it's just a year let's do it. I hate that they hint about them maybe getting back together in the end and that she apologises to him. He was happy about the makeover and the sexy underwear but couldn't celebrate one birthday without her? Grow up.
@enriquev1271

Unpopular opinion: The boyfriend is not as mean as they make it seem. He could have bee more suportive yes, but Andy told him many times that she was being miserable there, when she did her a makeover he said she looked gorgeous, when she didn´t go to his birthday he was sad but didn´t treat her like crap (she would have do the same). I mean is Andy the one who started to change drastically, change and dedication to a job is not bad but she was becoming someone she hates, the boyfriend knew that but he didnt told him to quit or smt bc he respected her decision, she also almost cheated on him. I love Mirandas character but I think people are hating the boyfriend so much when the actual anthagonist who makes Andy doing all the "toxic" sh*t is Miranda.
@Toonwalla2010
@Toonwalla2010 3 жыл бұрын
@@enriquev1271 and @Lyrazel you both make good points about the BF. While it is very understandable that he be frustrated by Andy's drastic changes in personality, it does not justify some of his behaviour. Maybe it's because of the movie's choice of editing and directing but, from what scenes we get of him, it's easy to interpret the BF as a toxic manchild because in the story he seems to have no other role other than to whine about her changing instead of having a growth arc for himself. Even at their reunion at the end he comes off as unchanged which is why it's irritating to see the two of them patch things up. Andy has obviously grown as her own person but he has not. In short, I personally think the BF and Miranda are BOTH the antagonists of the story who stand at opposite ends of the spectrum. The BF does not like change and so he tries to keep Andy back with him in his safe little bubble and not let her change while Miranda wants to push Andy into transforming into a selfish, ruthless clone of her. They are both playing a tug of war where they both want Andy to be what THEY want her to be, not without really thinking about what SHE wants to be.

I agree with you. I used to think in the end it seems pretty obvious that now that she's finally free from her job (and a possible successful carreer) and he got the role as the sous chef, it's all okay for him. He's happy because the situation is favorable for him, but he wasn't that happy for her before. He seems to be such as an unsupportive character. Even though I really don't agree with her choices sometimes, the point is that it was just a temporary situation (only a single year) and all she needed was support so she could give her best withouth feeling guilty for missing one b-day (how many b-day would he celebrate? Many. How many opportunities like this would she have? ... ... ... )
@markwood6056

I have to seriously disagree. IF you have a loved one (be it friends, family, spouse, significant other, child, ect who has stated previously that they have a dislike to certain types of people and their lives. You generally believe them. And when you see them suddenly change into the thing they have shown a dislike to, its generally seen as a red flag, a huge honking red flag. First every person that we are presented with that knew her before shows some degree of concern about her changes. If it was just a friend, or just a boyfriend, or even just a family member you could easily chalk it up to the fact that that person is wrong. But the filmmakers make it that every single person who knew her pre employment is worried about her. That's not a positive sign. Then we see that every change made isn't solely on her side. She only gets accepted by becoming one of them. We don't really see any other character change because of her. That's like getting into a cult or gang, again generally not considered a good sign. Now we do get very few scenes with her friends or her boyfriend or family, or in fact any aspect of her life away from her job, so every thing we see gets magnified. Like the scene were she chooses to not eat. This after being told how she's fat, and how a size 6 is just not going to work here. She even states she sees why. known of the other women eat. That's not a positive thing. Now she could have made the same point, showed how she's different and pick up that sandwich and eat it, but she doesn't. We also see examples that this isn't just taking a tough highly stressful job. If that was all it was then no problem. But the characters talk about how she is changing, not just working more hours. And to drive it home, is this a change that she thinks is a positive one for herself? No it isn't. From he time she wakes up in bed to the car ride with Miranda, we see her face what she has turned into. She's not proud of it, she's upset perhaps even disgusted by it. And she only lightens up when she walks away from it. And when we next see her, is she closer to how she was a Runway or when she started this film? People that love you are the people who are supposed to point out when your getting lost, when your making bad choices. And it isn't also their duty stand by and support you if you are becoming something that you would have never wanted to see yourself as. Now if, she was discovering her true self and this was who she wanted to be, then good for her. Be you. And if people in your life can't be behind that, then you don't need them in your life. That isn't the case her. Now if she was only pretending to be the person she was at the start of the film, to please these friends or her boyfriend, or her family, then yes go find out who you truly are. You don't need to be what someone else wants you to be (if that isn't who you want to be in the first place), and again this doesn't seem to be the point of this film. But in fact she only finds success in Runway by being who she isn't and doesn't want to be. She changes who she is for Miranda. And that's not right. Imagine if Miranda's character was her love interest and we see her a completely different person at the start change into what her love interest (again in this example Miranda) wanted her to be.

I love everything about this movie except I hate that she apologized to Nate at the end. He was so insufferable and unsupportive the whole movie. She had nothing to apologize for and he just sits there with his judge face.

A year late on this reaction but I’m glad it was recommended to me. I’ve watched this film probably close to a hundred times, and what I get from the ending is that there’s a mutual understanding between them. What Miranda liked about Andie is ultimately why Andie left: she was headstrong and knew herself. It’s the reason why Emily will likely never be given a position with more power. Emily knows how to mold herself for others but not at all how to take initiative and lead in newer directions. Andie can do that and I think Miranda - at least in the film, not Anna in real life - saw a lot of potential in Andie. She showed she could understand fashion if given the reason to, learned the lingo, and could create contacts with people outside of the perceived Miranda circle. All things you’d need for a future editor, or even Editor In Chief if the time called for it.

When I was a kid the vogue montage made me go on an outfit shopping spree in my moms closet 😂 she had great taste her vintage pieces were really great. I will say about the blue belt that as an adult watching that scene that there was nothing stupid about that person who said they were so different. On that outfit the two element that matter on the belt are the color and the buckle. One was culturally neutral (apparently) and the other one was rancher style. Very specific aesthetic influence. You’d hope a haute couture publication would be concerned with those kind of details because it’s an art form and whatever they publish they presumably endorse and are responsible for.

Allow me to put the hurricane problem in perspective: We've all seen Mirandas job is her whole life, even over her marriage and children. So whenever she gets a chance to make time for them, of course it would be important for her. THAT'S what Miranda's really upset about. And she DID go easy on her for not pulling it off: she didnt fire her.

I LOVE MIRANDA XOXO hahaha. Watched this as a little boy, forever love Miranda, maybe cos she is just like my mom. Cold to the world, but lovely only to me and her direct family. And I agree when she said no one is competent enough to do her job, cos she is very competent, she knows her shit, and she only settles for the best. That other lady wanted to cut cost, claims she can bring the same quality? Doubt so. If your focus is cutting cost, quality will always be affected. Miranda wants the best for Runway and fashion, and knowing how perfectionistic, visionary, and competent she is, no one is even near her level at her job.

I don't get where Emily get the gall to blame Andrea for taking her place on the Paris trip. 1) Emily has been a nasty bitch to her all the way. She is not Andrea's friend. 2) Andrea worked for it, she earned it and it's only right that she goes. This is business, not kindergarten: just because you really really want something, doesn't mean you have a right to have it.
@merenwen4495

I can see why Emily hates her guts. Andy comes in, not even wanting that job, saying she doesn’t care about it and uses it to become something else. To Emily this job means everything. She loves fashion, she would die to meet all the designers. Imaging having to work with someone who doesn’t even wants to be there, says she doesn’t care, but in the end screws you over and taking the one thing you want. Andy is just one big hypocrite and Emily rightfully hates her for that.
@PHSDM104
@PHSDM104 2 жыл бұрын
@@merenwen4495 Andrea's not a hypocrite. She just wised up, sucked it up, actually put in effort and turned out to be good at her job. Assignments are usually passed out based on results not relationships. Emily was slipping up and Andrea was excelling. Sorry not sorry.

Love this movie. It's a tiny inconsequential detail, but I never liked how Andy asks them to spell Gabbana, not Dolce, which would make way more sense. I understand that it's to make it more obvious to the audience what they're talking about, but I find it very unrealistic that she'd have problems with Gabbana and not with Dolce. (then I assume the caller said the whole name and not just the last)
