The people voted, so here it is. The start of the much awaited Sunlust blind run. I have seen bits and pieces of these maps (all those Daerik's streams!). So I think these will be actually just 80% blind overall.
The 5 maps featured on this stream looked and played really good. The first 4 maps slowly ease you into gradually increasing difficulty, which felt very satisfying. However map 5 (by Danne) completely owned me. Maybe I was tired or too distracted by chat, but that one took me as long as the other 4 combined. I did like map 5 however, the challenge makes it a very interesting map. The deaths were my fault alone: I should have explored the map earlier to find the areas with more ammunition.

One of the first games I played was Doom. I've never seen the Sunlust maps before, nor really had too much interest in them. I like my OG Doom. But after seeing all your shorts/clips of it, I think I'm going to binge your whole playthrough

Its so weird. The first time I watched this playlist was probably almost two years ago. My daily routine was to log into work, sign off, and make myself a big plate of spaghetti and watch this playlist every night, picking up where I left off last time. Here it is several years later and just watching this has made me crave spaghetti something fierce. xD

Thank you for not 1080p. 1080p has horrible low bitrate on youtube, so thank you for uploading in better resolution. youtube's bitrates: 1080p : 3.5 mbit if you got VP9, but on 1080p you often get only their h.264 transcode, which has a bit more bitrate, but looks still much worse, because VP9 is a much better codec 1440p: 10 mbit 3200x1800: 15 mbit so your 1440p is already a massive improvement over 1080p. On a more difficult to compress game its recommended to use 3200x1800, because if you have bad compressable video it will look the least compressed on that.

Think I might have to give Sunlust a go soon too, it looks absoloutely amazing. On Hurt Me Plenty though, I'm not quite as elite as these KZfaqrs are I'm afraid lol.

I almost completed Sunlust on HMP (stopped at the very start of God Machine). It was a HUGE contributor to my git gud cycle. Really recommend it!

when you pressed that switch that was a secret when the red stair appeared. i think it has a couple of ammos. on map05 --- forgot to mention the maps. oopsie :P.

Ooh, this should be fun. BTW, not sure if you are aware but in prboom/glboom you can assign a key to "restart current map" to do an instant pistol start. Mine's on Home but I don't remember if that's the default or not. Anyway, it might save some trouble doing these playthroughs - plus you rocket your own face enough anyway! (jk)

@@coincident Me too. With my apartment's pool closed down in quarantine, I cannot swim. Last time I had the chance was on a creek bend near the road of a nearby town, with some *ICY* water to contrast the uber-dry 38ºC weather that day. Sure made that opportunity count - swam so much that my scalp got sunburnt and half my body was sore and tired for 3 days. _Worth it._

I'd argue that while map05 might have been properly balanced for solo pistol start, it absolutely wasn't balanced for pistol start with an audience.

@@coincident Well, I understand your technical explanation. But for a lot of subscribers, my self included, they will never use Twitch. For various reasons. Maybe the fan base is larger on Twitch, then it makes sense to promote that platform. But I believe it will hurt the YT channel. It feels like second choice, when it's cut up for any amount of reasons. And seconds are really not that attractive imo.

@@pronemanoldbutyoung5548 Make no mistake: *KZfaq is my number 1 priority* and Twitch comes 2nd. I want to give my KZfaq viewers the *best* possible experience. That's why I reserve the hi-quality footage for KZfaq instead of just uploading bare twitch vods with low quality and no edits (like some other KZfaqrs do). Instead, I spend *several hours every week* editing in animated subtitles and other tricks, and cutting out the boring parts, for example when the game is paused with the menu open because I'm just reading chat. I want what's best for the KZfaq viewers, first and foremost, and I'm confused why my hard work of editing is being perceived as negative. Can you share with me why you feel that cuts are bad?

@@StefanReich True. I guess different people like videos cut / uncut in different ways. It's hard to please everyone. Anyway, I'm experimenting with different ways of cutting to see if I can get better results.

Cyberdemon531 hates maps where the same textured liquid floors in a map are damaging in some places and non-damaging in other places. Inconsistent!!!

Yeah. Many people (myself included) hate that. It's poor map design, because it breaks the player's expectations and punishes the player for being smart, and learning / adapting to texture patterns. Edit: Thanks KZfaq for losing my previous detailed answer to this comment! FFS...
