So long, it’s been good to know you So long, it’s been good to know you So long, it’s been good to know you What a long time since I’ve been home and I’ve got to be drifting along I’ve sung this song, but I’ll sing it again Of the people I’ve met, and the places I’ve been Some of the troubles that bothered my mind And a lot of good people that I’ve left behind, singin’ Chorus The sweethearts they sat in the dark and they sparked They hugged and they kissed in that dusty old dark They sighed and they cried and they hugged and they kissed But instead of marriage, they call it like this Chorus I went to your family, I asked them for you They all said take her, oh, take her please do She can’t cook or sew and she won’t scrub your floor So I put on my coat, tiptoed out the door, singin’ Chorus I walked down the street to the grocery store, It was crowded with people, both rich and both poor I asked the man how his butter was sold He said one pound of butter for two pounds of gold. I said Chorus My telephone rang, and it jumped off the wall That was the preacher a’ making a call He said we’re waitin’ to tie the knot You’re gettin’ married, believe it or not Well the church it was jammed, the church it was packed The pews were from crowded from the front to the back A thousand friends waited to kiss my new bride But I was so anxious, I rushed her outside, told ‘em Chorus

Great Song!! Great lyrics! Brings back huge memories. Still makes me laugh whenever i sing it today! I wish more people would learn how to say "So Long" in this rather short life. Sincereley with Love, julio c. henriques/artist since 1961

Yes! I've loved this particular song & specialy its lyrics for quite sometime! Lol! Yes sometimes you have to say "So Long Its Good To Know Ya" before someone has to asks you to leave ! Unfortunately, the person who I was trying to communicate this message wasn't able to completely understand my request & hung in there & continued to become a huge "pain in the ass!" during my life.LOL! ( I finaly got my divorce too! Lol) sincerely Love is the answer, julio c henriques/artist since 1961

There are two versions of this song, the 1955 one and the recent one sung live at Carnegie Hall . The one I am so familiar with is my favorite version. That being live at Carnegie Hall . So long, it’s been good to know yuh,😩💕😁🪕🥁

OMG! The Weavers were first known as The Almanac Singers. They were an impoverished folk group that sang and hung out in Greenwich Village in New York in he early 50s. They were sort of the first wave of the hippies. Gordon Jenkins, the A&R man at Decca Records, heard them sing at a club in the Village. In between all their discovery they changed their name to The Weavers. So now, Gordon Jenkins signed them to Decca. Their music was played constantly on the radio after their break. What's not widely known is that Burl Ives and Will Geer (Grandpa Walton) were occasional singers with The Weavers. And yes, Burl Ives had some hits at the same time The Weavers were hitmakers. When yer hot, yer hot. An quasi Hebrew "folk song" Tzena, Tzena" was originally in a minor key. When The Weavers recorded it, it was voila in a melodic key. As to their blacklisting, they were about as communist as Bob Dylan or PPM when they sang their hippy/folk songs. Hey folks, its just show biz!
