This was EXTREMELY informative on a subject that's very confusing. Renting a Tesla Model S 2017 in a month to drive in Cali and was curious what it might be capable as the owner said he has "autopilot with convenience features". As you said it can all be very confusing

Thanks for making this video and your charts, Alex. I will send them both to friends who always ask the same question: "What can I expect to get (or is available) if I buy a used or new Tesla?" It's confusing to most. I always try to explain that Tesla upgrades their cars whenever upgrades are available, unlike most ICE manufacturers who make changes when they introduce a new model year. I love that Tesla is not changing the look of their cars so the public won't always zero-in on the model year. That alone helps keep re-sale values higher. I owned several cars while living in Europe, decades ago, and it seemed like only my American friends would ask, "What year is your car." Ha

Great video. This should clear up some confusion that people may have. Tesla's technology continues to improve. It is difficult to keep up with all the changes. If you want the latest and greatest you will need to upgrade to a NEW Tesla. Kind of like smart phones. They get better every year or two.

thanks for the info. I think since you made this video, Tesla has pushed a lot of additional changes thru software updates. I have a 2014 Tesla model S with auto pilot one.. I can lane change I use it on city streets. I can summon the car out of my garage and to where I am. I basically works great for pulling the car out of the garage or having it travel towards me 10 or 15 feet.. I rely very heavily on this auto pilot, and I like the fact that there is not an inside camera watching me because I don’t always have my eyes on the road, but I do always have my hands on the steering wheel. I would love to get a newer Tesla with auto pilot 2.0+ so he could handle traffic lights but honestly I’m wondering if the newer auto pilot might be worse compared to what I have due to limited functionality. I would be curious to know if other drivers with 2014 model. S have the same capabilities as my auto pilot. When I look at the about screen it says I have 1.0 computer and software version 11.1 (my central screen was replaced a few years ago when it glitched initially I have to pay for it, but then Tesla contact me about a year later, and said it was a warranty item and reimburse me) I could never get a straight answer whether this replaced CPU screen was upgraded, but I did notice my sailor went from 3G to 4G. The other thing I would be curious to know is if someone purchased a Tesla way back in 2014 with full self driving is that something that’s transferable to the next purchaser of the car and how do you tell if that was an original option that was purchased. I’m not aware of Tesla retrofitting an AP capable of FSD on a 2014 but if someone has some experience with that I’d be curious to hear about it. Thanks advance.

Alex; Replying to your comment on my post regarding the speed with which you put over highly interesting Tesla information (on the charging outlets video). Better on this one but still - with the amount of information coming across! - quite hard to take in. Your diction is perfect - as a Brit living in Australia I cringe at how badly Brits and Australians talk (nothing to do with accents, just lazy diction) but you are completely understandable. In the case of this, autopilot, video may I suggest a little more visual highlighting of the various options as you introduce them: trying to ascertain which column and row you are discussing takes a second or two and I for one lose track of the commentary then you’ve gone onto the next item! I may be slow, but I was fast enough to operate B747s for years - your “training” videos are the best on KZfaq so don’t take my comments I other way than praise!
