It is indeed well worth watching! However, that's sadly easier said then done. It's nearly impossible to find on streaming services. And as far as physical media, it has only ever been officially released on VHS, Laserdisc and DVD. So many mediocre movies have been released on 4K UHD blu-ray but here we are in 2023 and we can't even get "Pink Floyd The Wall" on a HD one. I don't know if it's a rights thing or what but it makes me sad. Hopefully my cherished DVD will continue to work in the future.

The entire album is a story. The Movie is good at explaining. It is an emotional wall that people end up building to protect themselves. And each negative thing that happens to us just adds another brick. Once your wall gets to high you will become unreachable until you break down your wall and expose yourself. It is a very deep concept.

As a concept album, it's worth watching or listening to it in its entirety. It's vulnerable and demonstrates some of the best internalization of life experiences some people go through. It's not an easy watch, but it is cathartic. Edit: This video is from the whole feature film, The Wall.

Hard to really get the full story of any song off of The Wall album, the whole thing is one long narrative. (It's like reading one random chapter in a book). Would love to see you react to the whole album, it's a masterpiece, very emotional moments. All that said, great reaction as always.

Look not every song in The Wall is a masterpiece worth listening to! Some are just average and some are even plain garbage! Not everyone can sit through the entire album of average songs, that are not worth paying attention to! Wish You Were Here and Animals are both much much better in that regard! But The Wall is kinda weak, except maybe 4 or 5 neat songs...
@emilianovicentini8755
@emilianovicentini8755 Жыл бұрын
@@Summon256 it's true, song by song it's certainly not their best album, but "the wall" shouldn't be judged song by song, it's in its entirety that it rises to one of the greatest masterpieces, or perhaps the best concept album in rock history. And by the way "comfortably numb" alone is worth a discography 🙂
@Summon256
@Summon256 Жыл бұрын
@@emilianovicentini8755 No, it is;'t it's overrated as hell and definitely not as good as people claim it is! The live version of it made it tenfolds better because of that solo in the end, but without it it's a decent song at most...defenitely not a masterpiece people claimimng it to be! I don't even have it anywhere in my top-10 PF songs, let alone being the best one...
@emilianovicentini8755
@emilianovicentini8755 Жыл бұрын
@@Summon256 mmm... my english is poor and i'm relying on google (apologies)... if you're talking about "comfortably numb" when i wrote "alone is worth a discography" i meant the discography of many other bands, not of Pink Floyd. "Comfortably numb" in the studio version is one of my favorite Pink Floyd songs, the live version, one of the top 3-5 for the reason you say. But these are personal tastes. I don't think it's overrated. As for the album "the Wall", out of 26 tracks, perhaps 3 are to be considered excellent songs (Definitely "hey you" and "another brick in the wall part 2" as well as "Comfortably numb"), the others are divided between good (Run like hell for example) , average and simple intro, outro or moments of passage between one episode and another, functional to the story. And that's what I meant: "the wall" is a masterpiece as a whole, as a concept. Judging them song by song, at least half should be trashed. I hope I was clearer now 🙂

I'm 50, but I subscribe to few reaction channels for the learning and expanding of the younger generations that have no idea what has come before. This one is a standout Aileen😍. Young people have no understanding of what a "concept album", or a cohesive story in music is because algorithms HATE it. I see rays of hope every time I watch these videos hoping people will investigate further to understand how we got here. Watch "The Wall" Aileen, you will understand so much more(and no, you don't need drugs for it to make sense😂). The movie is the visual to the albums audio. Ground-breaking, mind-blowing, and anyone in power absolutely hated it.

Yea I've been poking around a bunch of different Reactors, and a lot are very similar. A small intro, they listen to the song, maybe stop once or twice, then a short outro with very little way of explaining how they felt about what they just heard. Aileen is one of a very small group that actually takes time to explain her actual thoughts and opinions on the song.

The whole album was conceived as a "Rock Opera" and tells a story, but was intended to be listened too in its entirety. Also, this is from the film, "Pink Floyd: The Wall" (1982), which is fantastic. I would highly recommend viewing it and the poem the young boy is writing in this video is actually the lyrics to their song "Money".

Critic Leonard Maltin described the film Pink Floyd's The Wall as the world's longest rock video, certainly the most depressing. As it is the story of a person's decent into madness and the Bricks that build the Wall between him and reality, depressing is appropriate. Great film. Great album, Great story.

Way better than what Nostalgia Critic did. Make a near 40 minute parody making fun of most of the songs, has the gall to release a album full of the songs he made into parody calling it a "love letter" even though in his parody of this song he has the line "Just grow a damn set of balls", then ends it with 5 second "review" saying he liked it fine, then called it a bit pretentious. 🙄After what he pulled, he has little right to call anything pretentious.

This Video was taken from the movie that accompanied the ''The Wall album. The whole 'The Wall' project was always planned as an Album, a stage live show and a movie. The live show took place only at 4 locations around the world, because the stage with this long a high wall did not fit into most arenas at this time (1980-1981). You were able to experience it 7x in Los Angeles (USA), 5x New York (USA), 11x London (England) and 8x Dortmund (Germany). After the tour the movie was shown in cinemas all over the world. You will only be able to get the full meaning of the story after you listened to the album, watched the stage show and the movie. Roger Waters staged the show once again in Berlin 1990 after the Berlin Wall fell and all over the world between 2011 and 2013.

What I always thought about the portrayal of the school and the children, is as you said, the school just blends everything/everyone (like a meat grinder) into one homogenous blob and sends it out into the world, with the kids all wearing a similar mask to show them being stripped of any individuality or uniqueness. Just memorize what we teach you, don't think for yourself or outside the box, and become what we tell you to become. Feels like you can still see that happening today.

Even taken from the album in context, it helps to hear all three in order to enjoy the theme's evolution through life's experiences told in more detail from the rest of the recording. It is amazing timeless genius how most of Pink Floyd’s music is part of one big story of their lives and the lyrics relate back to other songs… when you speak of how kids are molded to fit certain expectations and not live their dreams, it takes me back to “Comfortably a numb”: “When I was a child I caught a fleeting glimpse out of the corner of my eye. I turned to look, but it was gone. I cannot put my finger on it now. The child is grow, the dream is gone…”

I grew up with an education system like this, where the teachers mocked us and even slapping us if we did something wrong. Many years later, when the video was released, only then this song made sense to me. You see, Pink Floyd is kind of an acquired taste. You need to listen their message once, twice, three or more times to get the full depth of what they mean. As a teenager in the 80's I never cared much for the lyrics, if the rhythm was right, then I would like the music. Now, almost 60, I do appreciate music much more and better. Awesome that you picked straight away what was happening in the beginning. My dear Succubus, you have no idea of what you still have to discover, and not just this band we grew up with. Kind regards.

The music always seems to match the lyrical content flawlessly. So, you're right. Even if you didn't have the lyrics, you could still tell if it was sad, or angsty, or happy, or crazy, etc etc.

Lord I grew up with this band (I’m 54) and I’ve heard this song and seen this video hundreds and hundreds of times. You’re the first reactor I’ve watched react to this who gets the symbolism and the message behind the song and video..well done! Love to see young people keeping great rock music alive! Keep it up!

Oh yes, Aileen the Empath hits home! I wouldn’t say this is ahead of its time though. This issue, and many others are as old as time itself. For as far back as you want to go, there have been people seeking to rewrite history to further their agendas. It was bad in the 60’s and 70’s and this song was a reflection of that.

The Wall is a journey through madness with fantastic music to soundtrack it all. I urge you to listen to the whole album,in your own time if you want,but after dark side and animals with such pressure to come up to that standard,they did it again. Great album.

First I just never apologize for expressing your feelings you experience with music. This is just the tip of the iceberg the movie The Wall is an epic story in visuals,music and incredible meaning well worth the time to watch. There is so much amazing music to be discovered I personally have loved music my entire life. My Playlist is so random but I have been fortunate enough to have been exposed to so many different genres of music over the years. The greatest thing about your videos is that you have a genuine love of music of all sorts. I really don't understand how someone can limit themselves to one genre with so many incredible artists out there.

This entire album is 1 story, each song being part of it. The teacher is Scottish because Roger Waters' teacher was Scottish, and tells him his poetry is rubbish - it's the lyrics to "Money" from the Dark Side Of The Moon album, the 2nd best selling album of all time lol. This video is from the movie of the album, which is a great movie :)

I'm not sure if I would say Darkside is the number 2 selling album of all time since the top 2 are Eagles Greatest hits with 38 mil sales (38x Plat) and Michael Jackson Thriller at 34 mil sales (34x Plat) . . Darkside is #16 in sales at 15 mil (15x Plat) . Either way it is a great album . Personally my favorite is Wish you are here especially Shine on You Crazy Diamond (all parts)

2:19 the poem here is lyrics from the Pink Floyd song "Money" off the album "Dark Side of the Moon" which is one of the longest running albums in Top Music charts & amongst the highest selling albums of all times. What I love most about Pink Floyd albums are they are a single story told over a series of songs and need to be listened to in their entirety uninterrupted to the massage of the albums. Great band that my conservative upbring meant I didn't listen to it when it was released but a massive fan of today. "The Wall" has been made into a movie that is truly worth the watch. Adults to kids " Dream big but only our dreams"

One of Pink Floyd's many masterpieces. Normally I'd say a live version is better but given the title I totally agree with the video as well. The composition, text and production are brilliant and to the point, as is the guitar solo, how could it be otherwise, hey it's Pink Floyd, unmistakable. But what I also really like here is the choir that has been integrated, the voices, excellent contrast. PS: If you ever want to watch Dire Straits "Brothers in Arms", I would recommend the video (black and white drawings) there as well.

I can see so well in your eyes, Aileen, how deeply you're feeling this. Your eyes betray the emotions of your heart and it's a beautiful thing to see. ♥ If you've not seen it yet, I highly recommend checking out the 1927 silent movie, Metropolis, as it explores a similar theme and still resonates with modern society. I was near to graduating high school when this album came out and it was an incredible experience. Like almost all Pink Floyd albums, the full album is the complete story. The music was always amazing but half the love for Pink Floyd was deciphering the meaning of the work. Many were the nights we would turn off the room lights and sit down, joint in hand, and just listen to The Wall. At this time, videos were in their infancy and this one wasn't made until a few years afterwards. Thankfully, in my high school, we were rarely pushed into fitting in to the mold of 'proper' society - the meatgrinder that strips us of our souls. I have always taught my sons to be themselves and explore as many different facets of life as they could but to also appreciate where it all came from. Their love of all forms of music is a blessing to me and we're always giving each other suggestions for what to listen to next. When my eldest was about 4, we were in a record store and I was looking through the Pink Floyd section. Out of the blue, he tells me that if I don't eat my meat I can't have any pudding. For a grade 7 music lyrics report he chose Dear God by XTC, flooring his teacher with his comprehension of the song's cynical meaning. Good music knows no time period and no generational divide.

Fortunately I have known them since their inception and in all that time there has been no other band to come close to them musically, technically and emotionally and no guitarist could ever match Dave Gilmour.

Love your take on this song. Pink Floyd's lyrics always seem to tell of life's truths. Teacher's often use their power over the children in psychological and physical abuse. When I was in the 2nd grade I had a teacher who emotionally and physically abused me. I am a mother of 2 who had to at times basically tell them to leave my kids alone or eles... My children are adults now but they never forgot and I didn't either. GREAT INTUITION ❤❤
