Don't even get me started with my Dell Customer support experience! I bought an XPS 17 last year and it had a battery drain issue, because the power supply isn't powerful enough to supply the CPU and GPU with power at the same time. So, the laptop draws additional power from the battery EVEN WHEN PLUGGED IN! This wears out the battery extremely fast! So what is Dell's solution? They want to take away the "battery boost" without giving a more powerful power adapter, basically crippling the CPU's performance under load! Let me repeat that in simpler terms. DELL WANTS TO TAKE AWAY CPU POWER FROM A COMPUTER THAT I OWN AND PAID EXTRA FOR TO HAVE MORE POWER, WITHOUT REFUNDING ME. THEY EXPECT ME TO JUST SETTLE FOR THIS "FIX" WHICH WILL TAKE AWAY POWER! Needless to say, I haven't had this "fix", and am desperately trying to get Dell to authorize a late return. More details are on my KZfaq channel...

@@RandomTechVideos This has been a problem for a bit. They had a G5 model last year with the Ryzen 3k APU's. They just left everything at full unlocked power draw without any tweaking. I think the CPU was able to get 100w (when its really never needed to go above 60), this kind of screwed with their numbers and perf was lower than it was supposed to be. But I think their tactic is have initial perf be as high possible at the start at all costs and then later fw will sort out stability issues by bringing power settings more inline and trashing performance (though the G5 was so out of whack, any power management would help).

This is so true in the medical field. 10 years later and I still don't have a permanent solution for a car accident occurring in 2011 by someone running a stop sign. A constant state of living-death. To make it worse, the courts screwed me by violating my ADA rights, constitutional rights, and someone had a team of lawyers spread lies to my then lawyer who dropped me 2 weeks before trial leaving me to hire the lawyers who spread the rumors or they would tell the judge to drop the case because I wasn't represented. Then they screwed me even more. I even had physical therapy testify under penalty of perjury numerous lies - for instance... I told them that I was so disappointed that I couldn't help my mom with her luggage when she flew to Germany, because of my injury and a son should be able to help his mother; instead my stepfather did it. He testified that I told him that I injured my back helping her with her luggage which was a blatant lie. The whole system is corrupt.

Not only that, but it has a massive power headroom even without additional power mods. Unfortunately, memory might not clock very high and it's gimped by 64 bit bus so that's unfortunate, but I think that core has a lot of overclocking potential.

Dell is a billion dollar company. Majority of their consumers are corporate and general people (not enthusiast, gamer or streamer) who don't give a sh*t about competitive configuration. Why would Dell change if the current business model of scamming people is more profitable. Their agents are intentionally trained like that for a reason. One educated guess could be that a number of unemployed Indians (overpopulation smh) try their hand at tech support because they desperately need a job to feed their family or they are not educated enough primarily because of low family income(maybe), and then they get trained in the horrible way Dell deals with things. None of this probably happens in Canada, and all these calls are probably out sourced to India. For all we know, it's probably fair to conclude that the wild goose chase is a scam and is intentional and is meant to frustrate the person until he/she rage quits. These reps are poorly trained, or well-trained in scamming people, have quotas to fill, and are desperate to do whatever Dell asks of them. It's a multifaceted problem and really the only solution would be for Dell to improve its customer support IMMEDIATELY, I've personally dealt with this problem when buying a laptop including rude behaviour. I really, really feel terrible about this, and I feel angered.

My Dell customer support experiences have been the exact opposite. The last one was a monitor where a row of pixels died 2 days before the end of a 3-year warranty: Spent 5min on the phone, emailed them 2 photos of the screen, got a replacement approved 20min later & had a brand new monitor on my desk the next morning.

One major issue I had once regarding being tossed around support, is when I bought an iPhone 6 on a two year contract with EE. I asked the prices of the various plans, and the last one I asked was the 128GB model, which I specifically stated I wanted, they went through the paperwork, and while I was focused on the 2 year contact term I didn't notice that they did it for the model with half the storage. By the time I noticed it was a few minutes after I'd signed the form and received the sealed box, the answer from the salesman was "we don't have the 128GB in stock", something he'd never mentioned at any stage of my purchase, and although I noticed it was wrong before I'd opened anything the store refused, saying they couldn't undo a credit agreement and I'd have to call customer services, and each time I phoned customer services they said they couldn't deal with anything a store did because it's down to the individual store's management. I should have fought it harder as it was misold, but I ended up giving up and buying a brand new one out of pocket and selling the unsealed 64GB one.

When one of the outsourcers opened the doors here, they were representing one of the largest PC companies in the world. They hired a LOT of people with a computer background of some type. We were given three weeks training to learn the database software, the tools, how to troubleshoot all the varieties of Windows, all types of laptops, desktops, docking stations, etc. And of course we wasted time on 'customer service skills' as well. After a year, only two people from my hiring remained. The future hiring's were probably not as computer literate and were given two weeks of training. There were four major changes that required additional training. First time - there was a message on my phone at 1:00pm stating they had closed a specialized que and now you just support something you don't know anything about. Second time, went into a classroom, someone said yah-no-yah-no... and said we were needed on the phones and that was the end of that. Third time? Not even a pretense of training. Fourth time? This was the best training they gave... someone dish-out out bootleg copies of XP before it was released. ...Not sure I should mention was also put on French suppport... I don't speak French at all. After awhile though, we were finally getting enough on-the-job experience we started getting better.... and then they realized India was cheaper and shut us down. That's the thing with these out-sourcers, they are hired and fired. So you could call in one day and there's people with five years experience, and the next you're calling a new call-centre with nobody with more than two weeks.

It was an interesting experience to say the least. Never got an interview I applied to the position, whenever I saw it posted for a whole year. Dell refused to allow us to send the new laptop back for repair and would not send a tech out to solve the problem. My company switched to HP and has never regretted the change. It's basically what every single person other than some zoomer twitch streamer is going to tell you, is avoid Dell like the plague, ESPECIALLY "alienware" that company they ruined and parade around wearing its corpse's skin. Like I would much rather buy a ten year old used Optiplex office PC and try to make just a low end budget system with it than ever have anything to do with AW branded stuff from Dell. I think GamersNexus did by far the best most thorough analysis of why that is, although even just looking at the thing for five seconds you can tell how much you're being ripped off and how badly it's going to perform. AW is a cheese fart like those alleged "GTX 1050ti" GT450's getting passed around, where you basically just hope you can resell it to someone who's an even bigger sucker than you are, or eat the cost if you have any decency at all and admit what it is, which is shit.

This means there's no way you can overclock a 3770k without getting a new motherboard, and a brand new install of windows because that OS is tied to that board. @@spellsnare The problem is "back on track" for them is like 10 years ago. There's a difference between being down on your luck and in a rut, and spending 25 to life in prison. Your life is gone at that point. Dell is nearly at that point of being fully irretrievable. Once they started moving to proprietary motherboard bullshit they're done, AND the OS is locked to the shitboard itself. Words cannot describe the pain and suffering of being stuck with a Dell OEM. They make great shitboxes for budget gaming but I wouldn't want to pay even half the MSRP for any Dell computer, because there is literally not one single thing in the entire case that's worth anything other than the graphics card and CPU, mostly because Dell is forbidden by law to fuck up the silicon itself as it is not their property. Other than that, it's all trash. OH and the PSU I guess, for some reason maybe a relic of server divisions they make reliable PSUs, mainly because the machine has to actually turn on to get repeat customers who no matter how tech illiterate WILL drop Dell for exploding power supplies. HP is in a worse place purely because their shitty laptops literally die in a year or two basically by design like Apple laptops, so while Dell can keep scamming the tech illiterate, HP can't even maintain the basic function of "does it turn on?" The problem is, their fucking PSUs are OEM now too, and are therefore useless and worthless. This likewise is going to make old Dell office PC's a thing of the past for gaming rigs btw as we have incresaingly more power being dumped on GPU silicon and not being able to make any upgrades to power supply on a Dell office machine with proprietary power nixes all upper and midrange cards being supported, as you have to have a brand new motherboard to replace the PSU (so you will need a clean install of windows, a new mobo, a new power supply, and a new case in order to reuse the RAM and GPU+CPU on a Dell)

@@billdexhart5179 What I'm saying is that the motherboard replacement, without your knowing, made your CPU less powerful than before. My XPS 17 gets 130W from the wall, and it gets 20-30W more from the battery when goth the CPU and GPU are under load. With the motherboard replacement, you still get 130W, but the battery doesn't supply any extra power, therefore your CPU no longer gets as much power when the GPU is also under load. SO DELL LITERALLY SOLD COMPUTERS THAT HAD A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF POWER AND THEN TOOK AWAY POWER LATER WITHOUT TELLING YOU! We've been in contact with Dell support and they confirmed that the motherboard replacement does indeed take away power!

That temp issue is a modern laptop problem with many manufacturers. You should see how bad Apple was/is (before M1, I don't know anything about that is doing). They purposefully allow it to hit 100c, and design the laptop around this to tolerate that temperature. It means they can make the laptop smaller and cheaper. There are better laptops that don't out there still though, but it is definitely not a Dell specific thing you are describing or a rare one.

My rebranded Chinese laptop (maingear element 17) doesn’t hit 90c on the 10875h. I did eventually apply a -50mv undervolt (would have done -150 ish... but this model has a 50 cap + or - and I didn’t feel like messing around enough to get around it), but I do that for almost every Intel based laptop since they tend to clock higher and sustain the clocks easier (more often it is the power limit hit then the temp limit hit unless the laptop is really poorly designed) Honestly I really like the laptop and will definitely put tongfang based laptop models high on my list when I replace this one. They don’t scream gamer, thin, light, and my 2070 super based model is still out performing a lot of the new Nvidia 3000 series laptops in games unless I turn on RTX, which I don’t like anyways in 90% of things I have seen it in. This is also the same laptop rebranded as the eluktronixcs max-17 without all the marketing (which is apparently worth $1,000 US in performance difference).

@@TheMrCoDS Most divorces usually end up nasty that's just the nature of it. Its clear she most likely cheated just like my soon to be ex wife did luckily in my state if you cheat you get nothing no spousal support, no marital assets nothing. Kyle is in california so I'm not sure how they do it there but it could get nasty for him especially since he has a bit of fame and money.

We bought 6 Dell laptops for our company. They called us after 11 months as there was a problem with something on the motherboards. They were send a technician to fix them all at once. When he left we noticed 6 screws on the desk he was working on. We found wires trapped sticking out of the case and four of the six laptops crashed after 5 minutes of use and one refused to boot. Credit to Dell, they refunded all 6 without question.

This is pretty much the standard business model for large corps nowadays: attrition. Just make the process so obnoxious and arduous that you eventually give up and take the L. UPS did it when I tried to get them to pay out the insurance for a package they damaged, Amazon kept promising coupons that never manifested for late or missing orders, and my health insurance company sent me in an endless loop to cancel my plan. Not like you can do anything besides waste more time.

I ran into this problem with an XPS i7. It turned out to be the video card. Dell had a custom config file for the video card that locked the fan at 12%, I guess to keep things quite. This caused a ton of heat to radiate into the case and killed 2 video cards.

Last year I ordered an extended warranty which I later on wanted to cancel from Dell. I found out the sales rep lied to me about some promotion and the cost of part of it. I spent 5 hours on the phone trying to get a refund on the warranty I had bought just the day before. They passed me from tech support to customer care to some other department OVER AND OVER AND OVER. I was transferred at least 15 times. I was unable to do this. I vowed NEVER AGAIN. Worst customer care EVER. If you need a refund just go to your credit card company.

@@MrAfusensi I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX. Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project. There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux" distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

I had the same problem with the heatsink. After calling, they offered me to replace the computer with one that would "maybe" get a better heatsink, but nothing was sure. I then ask them until what date could I choose to return the computer entirely, which after a bit of talk, they offered me a monetary incitative to keep the computer. The amount offer was generous enough to cover the price of a third party heatsink and the trouble of installing it myself. In my case, they did an okay job.

This has absolutely nothing to do with pre-builts being bad. This is just a Dell issue, a customer service one specifically for the most part - and even for Dell not always the case (especially for business class). Pre-builts can be by far the best option for many. And even before the gpu price increases, using your brain to look around would get you a better built PC, with better specs, for the same price at worst and often better, with vastly better service than building your own. Post gpu price insanity there is even more reason.

The fact that people actually put up with this awful customer service is mind-blowing. I run a residential remodeling business and if our customer service was anywhere near this awful, we'd be out of business yesterday. If a company fucks up, it's their responsibility to fix the issue quickly and fairly to the customer who 9/10 times has done nothing wrong. Even if Dell had to lose money to fix the mistake, then so be it, that's their kick in the ass to not fuck up and maybe up their QC. That's how it works with my company anyway...if we mess up, we make it right quickly even if we lose some money...reputation is way more important, and actually having knowledge of the shit you're selling too is also important. How could I safely sell home improvements to someone if I'm just some uninformed sales guy or customer service dude with no actual knowledge of the product? When that rep said "don't worry about it" about 90+ c temps...I laughed/got really pissed because he knows that's bullshit buts treats the customer like a dummy that knows nothing. Wow, just wow...that's all I have to say smh

Almost exactly the same issue with a tiny ass junk cooler on a ryzen build i bought. The only way to stop the overheating was to reduce the speeds. I was then told the build really only should have liquid cooling and they would look into getting me a coupon or discount on a liquid cooler. The sales department then never called me and instead just sent an email saying I could buy the liquid cooling kit from their website (which you can't for the model i had). Refunded the PC at that point, and now the best part begins.... 20-30 days before I get my money back.
