I'm thinking of the "pizza cutters" option at 255/85 R16. Lighter weight and keep the stock rim to save money, seems like the best compromise. Only one Cooper tire to choose from unless you want mud terrains.

Something to mention, with the tires you might want to check into getting a ov tune and or dif gear change. The tune will definitely help with throttle response with the bigger tires and mpg on top of that adjustment to the weight of the tires in tune.

Any load E load tires are heavy and stiff. The load E tires are made for full size trucks. Your fuel economy isn't as bad as you think, mpg is thrown off bc your going further than your odometer is reading.

Nevermind the "33's ", Just having/owning a Tacoma right now PERIOD gets you in the club...They are so damn hard to find, and at a price that doesn't force you to trade your first born to a Toyota Dealer! For my miles, I took my 32" and TRD OR 4x4 to Sedona...I tore the crap out of my nerf bars but the damn thing stock hung in for most of that trail...What I learned at Sedona that is critical than tires are A PROPER LIFT and ROCK SLIDERS which I'M DEFINATELY DOING FIRST BEFORE I EVEN THINK ABOUT 33's...

Please don't refer to 285's=33" tire. The # 285=The "Width of the tire, the section of the tire touching the surface/ground" as in P285/70/R16. Example: 285mm=11.2mm" which is the width of the tire. 70 is the sidewall of 70% of the tire tread (Google.); R16=It's a 16" size wheel/rim🛞. Combining different numbers=Radius, width, gives you a 33" or larger/smaller tire to be installed onto different wheel/rim sizes: 14, 15, 16, 17, 18", etc . A tire with a diameter of 33" can be created as follows: P275/75/R17=33.24 or P255/85/R16=33.07. These diameter tire/wheel combo=What we call 33" tires. (Tire size calculator, TacomaWorld.Dot.Com.)

Most mods that increase Off Road performance decreases street performance. With that being said, a custom tune via OV Tune will change the way the truck drives. I have 285/70/17 Toyo AT3s with a 3” lift and love the capability of my truck. Running a custom OV Tune and can get 17mpg if I drive conservatively.

@@OfficialAing that’s what I recommend. There’s a new custom tune out now called KD Max that’s awesome! I’ve had the previous tune created by him and it was good too, but this one is much better, lots more power. Any reputable tuner will be able to obtain it.

@@thatdonnyguy Thank god I found this comment! I’ve been searching all over for someone who has the KDMax! I’m thinking about getting it as well on my truck, but I’m wondering if I should do it before or after a lift and bigger tires (+ all the mods I want)… I’ve heard from a content creator here on YT that some tuners might give you a free tune after mods if you’ve already had a 1st tune with them before, but I don’t know how accurate that is… And if I got the KDMax, would I still need a regear for the bigger tires, or would a tune be enough?
@thatdonnyguy
@thatdonnyguy 3 жыл бұрын
@@hectichive889 I have not been able to justify a regear since I have my KDMAX tune. I’m not saying it wouldn’t make it better, but it’s one hell of a bandaid that I don’t need with 33” tires and lots of weight. The tune I have is the same for a stock truck. If you get tuned now, you’ll only have to get retuned if you regeared. But the real question is, how much are you planning to do? 3” lift with 33” tires, winch, camper shell, rock sliders, rear steel bumper on stock gears and the same KDMAX tune that’s meant for a stock truck rolling off the dealership lot. Find a tuner in your area for better questions on what they provide.

@@thatdonnyguy Sweet! I’m not entirely sure what I want or need to do with my truck, I’m thinking I’m not going to do a ton because I still need it for a daily driver, but I’d love to be able to take it off roads (and look sick as hell!) So I was thinking probably a 3” suspension lift, 33” tires, a TRD Pro Grille (which obviously doesn’t change much), and the KDMax tune… Just those for now I’m thinking

the pros definitely outweighs the cons in my opinion and for my use - i camp and wheel pretty frequently so the extra height and wheel footprint when airing down is a huge pro. Also, the issue isn’t so much with the power, it’s with the gearing. A regear will help a lot with the bigger tires. I have Nitto Ridge Grapplers, and road noise isn’t too bad as people say.

I've treated it like a trans am, ripping slides, burnouts and going like 122 mph passed people and hitting jumps in the roads. I was thinking about 275s, but was also thinking 285s. 275s, I'd get new, same stock wheels, but 285s, I'd get Method 308 wheels (*-*) I get bad gas mostly cuz my exhaust has like 6 or more leaks.
