IMPORTANT UPDATES
🎈 Please store your lye solution in a polypropylene plastic container instead of glass! Or don't store it at all and make it fresh :)
Also, please be aware that this recipe is almost a castile soap! It's not really an all-rounder recipe, just what I came up with at the time (I honestly had no idea it would be so popular! It was my first soap recipe shared on youtube and I thought only a few of my friends would see it 😬). Please check out my other videos for more balanced recipes. I have so many wonderful soap recipes on this channel! 🌸
New to soap making? This is important!
Sodium hydroxide and potassium hydroxide (lyes) used in soap making, in granular or flake form or in solution with water/other liquids, as well as raw soap batter, are highly corrosive and require careful and attentive handling and the proper use of personal protective equipment. I've just uploaded a video review of this soap - 2 years after making! 😀 You can find that HERE kzfaq.info/get/bejne/j7t6la6os83bnXU.html It's pretty amazing! And.... 🛑 SAFETY UPDATE! 🛑 ▶ Please view my new Soap Making Safety Essentials video HERE kzfaq.info/get/bejne/e8CEprpqutyynYk.html before you attempt to make soap for the first time. ▶ Since making this video it has come to my attention that strong alkalis (lye solutions) can etch and weaken glass containers (even heatproof glass like Pyrex) making them prone to breakage! I NOW RECOMMEND KEEPING ANY UNUSED LYE SOLUTION IN POLYPROPYLENE (No. 5) PLASTIC CONTAINERS with screw top lids - keep them in a safe and secure place. Thank you for reading - stay safe when you make soap!! 🙏 DISCLAIMER: The information provided within Elly's Everyday KZfaq videos, website, social media pages and for Elly’s Everyday group members is based on my own personal research and experience and is provided for informational, entertainment and general educational purposes only. Hi Elly, I've been making soap for 8 months. I have learned a lot from different very good soap makers. However, I consider your videos foundational for beginners and I have made successful (safety, curing, color, fragrance, moisturizing, and compliments) bars of soap because of your videos. You have a relaxed way of teaching, which I found encouraging as a beginner. Thank you so much!

Some folks just don't feel comfortable working with lye because it is so toxic if inhaled or can burn. Speaking of, I saw many posts saying to keep vinegar handy and apply within 30sec of a burn to neutralize. Logistically it can be challenging due to fumes/smell (e.g. apartment s and condos, or if you have slot of pets who would be exposed. Then, if you make large quantities for selling, I can see where folks would skip a few steps. But, all that said, I completely appreciate the amount of effort and the skill this takes 💯%💕 And the finished product is SO beautiful. I could almost feel the smoothness and smell the lavender 😍😍

Thanks for the lye storage info, Elly. I made my first batch (your Rose Geranium recipe) yesterday and I set aside another lye concentration solution in a Mason jar over night for another batch (your Lavender recipe) today. From now on I’ll be using #5 poly. The bowl I used for blending the oils and lye solution was glass also, so I think I’ll look for little plastic buckets like you use. I just unmolded and cut yesterday’s soap successfully!...so I wanted to let you know how delighted I am. 💞Thank you again. I used a blend of fir needle, cedarwood, and orange essential oils, hoping for a Christmas-y scent. As I was cutting the soap this morning, it did smell lovely. So I’ll be trying my second batch later today after I get my dog home from the vet. Sending love and gratitude. 🧼

Hi Elly 😊 I am so happy! 48 hours after making my first batch of this lovely soap I have cut it. It sliced like a dream and is smooth without any gel circle on the ends.For my first cuts they aren't quite equally sized but I am sure practice will take care of that. Elly, thank you for sharing your recipes with us. I made this one and the carrot puree and turmeric hot process soap this past weekend. My house smells so wonderful right now. I live in an apartment so I have to cure my soap inside on racks. I started out making melt and pour soap about 20 years ago, and other bath items. I was always afraid to try using lye. I really appreciate your videos because you made everything so simplified for me. I have made the pine tar soap as well. Everything came out perfect when I tried each recipe. I have also created a couple of my own recipes over the past couple of months. I hope you continue to make videos for us in the future. Thank you again.

Hey! I used your recipe tonight to make my first ever soap, I'm very excited to see how it turns out, I used strawberry fragrance and red food colouring (food colouring DOES NOT WORK lol) I think I may have blended it a little too much but within about 15 seconds of blending the mixture was as thick as cake mixture and rapidly got harder, I had to spoon it into moulds so I think I might have some air bubbles trapped. Either way, thank you so much for your instructional video, it was very easy to follow and simple for a beginner like me, didn't seem to go quite to plan, hardened up WAY faster than yours did, but time will tell. Thanks again! x

Hi Elly, thanks for this awesome tutorial! I was so excited to see another Australian offering a recipe that was super easy to follow, easy to come by ingredients and so thoroughly explained. I had a bit of a boo boo with my first attempt, when I put in the fragrance oil and then used my stick blender to mix it! It started immediately setting up in my bucket, so I quickly spooned it all into the mould and shoved it all in with a spatula. I am not holding up any hope that this one will work, but we shall see! The second attempt, I stirred the oil in with a whisk and had plenty of time to pour it in. I have just ordered some micas and other fragrance oils, so I can have another go at making more soaps, but I noticed that my soap seems to be distinctly green. At least, it is right now. I'm sure this is because of the Moro Extra Virgin Olive Oil that I used. Your soap seemed to be quite pale once it set. Is this because you used the white clay, or did you use a different, lighter coloured olive oil? The colour doesn't bother me too much with a green apple scent, but strawberry and sage green are probably not the best combo. ;)
@EllysEverydaySoapMaking
@EllysEverydaySoapMaking 4 жыл бұрын
Hello Jennie, lovely to hear from you! Thanks for your very kind feedback, I'm glad you're enjoying my videos :) Yes, I use the 'light' olive oil from the supermarket, it makes nice light/white coloured soaps. The clay doesn't contribute much to the lightness of the soap. My extra virgin olive oil soaps always turn out a bit green too. Lately I've been using the cheap light olive oil from Aldi - it's great for soap!!
@JennieHoward
