I AM SO HAPPY YOU DID A VIDEO ON THIS GUY! I worked up in Skagway, AK where he died. Giving tours and talking about him was so much fun. Edit: you should also do a video on Frank Reed. He was a super interesting guy that was only there because he was wanted for murder. He's kinda portrayed as the hero of Skagway, but he just as bad as Soapy.

I'm a huge Deadwood fan, and other fans will doubtless recall a character that loosely resembles Soapy - in the first (maybe second ?) episode he can be seen walking the main thoroughfare shouting "SOAP ! Just thought this was cool, and something I didn't know was so close to a real figure from history.

Don't be fooled by the name, Leadville is on the most beautiful land in America. 9,200 feet above sea level, the highest incorporated city in America. Pb rocks! June 22, 2019, it snowed ~2". Summers are heaven, winters not so much.

The only reason I ever heard the name Soapy Smith before is from when I played The Yukon Trail as a kid and he showed up and would challenge you to the shell game.

In the HBO series Deadwood there is a scene with a Soapy Smith character selling bars of soap with prizes in the wrappers to the lucky. I was fortunate to be chosen to play the part of his Shill in that scene.

The deputy killed by Sam Bass was named AW Grimes. Both names are now main roadways in the city of Round Rock. Absolute travesty that Sam Bass is memorialized as he was truly an evil person. I think we need a buy a graphics on some of these guys.
